1 Utilimaster Access System Introduction P-Series Installation This information describes installation of the Utilimaster Access System (UAS) P-Series (one-button FOB) designed to replace the existing ACE keyless system (four-button FOB). The UAS P-Series kit includes a replacement module and programming switch that are installed in the cab overhead shelf and two pre-programmed FOBs. This system uses the one-button FOB to unlock the passenger's side cab door, bulkhead door, and rear cargo door. This alert highlights information that may reduce the risk of personal injury or vehicle damage. Below are some basic WARNINGS that you should heed when you work on the vehicle s body. They are not all-inclusive and common sense must be used when servicing vehicles. Always read and understand all instructions before starting a repair. Always wear safety glasses and other appropriate protective equipment (gloves, steel-toed shoes, face shields, knee pads, hearing protection). Put the transmission in Park and set the parking brake before working on the vehicle. Be sure that the ignition switch is Off unless otherwise required by the procedure. Only operate engines in a well-ventilated area. Read and understand all warning labels. Always remove rings, watches, hanging jewelry, and loose clothing before working in tight areas. Always make sure tools are in proper working condition and have guards and safety devices in place. Use only the recommended tools for a specific job. If at any time you lack confidence in performing a specific repair procedure or in operating the tools safely to perform the repair, STOP! Call your local dealer or a Utilimaster representative. 2

4 Recommended Tools Below are some tools that you will need for this process. There may be other commonly used hand tools required but not specifically mentioned. Drill with a #11 bit and a F-bit Tape measure Phillips head screwdrivers Standard combination and ratchet wrench sets including swivel adapter and extensions Pre-Installation Inspection Do a full electrical check including the four-way flashers, dash backlights, cab and cargo dome lights, back-up camera, wiper system, horn, all exterior lighting, etc. Use the FOB to check the operation of all door solenoids. Use the electronic override switches to check the operation of all door solenoids. 4

5 Installation Instructions WARNING: Always remove the (BLACK) Negative cable first and connect it last. WARNING: Batteries that are improperly connected, jumped, or charged can potentially explode and discharge acid, causing vehicle damage and personal injury. Carefully follow the chassis manufacturer s recommendations for those procedures. WARNING: Battery posts and related accessories may contain lead and lead compounds. Wash hands after handling. WARNING: Always wear safety glasses and other proper protective equipment (gloves, steel-toed shoes, face shields, knee pads, hearing protection) as appropriate to the process. CAUTION: Note the location of the battery cable routing and reinstall in exactly the same way. CAUTION: Do NOT close the hood without first pressing the orange button on the passenger side gas strut to disengage the safety locking mechanism. Failure to do so could result in damage to the hood. NOTE: This information is generic. Details in illustrations and procedures may differ from those in your vehicle. Because Utilimaster manufactures many customized vehicle bodies, this manual cannot list and illustrate every possible part in every vehicle. Nevertheless, the most common body options are described here. Use this information as a guideline where it applies. 1. Read and understand all instructions before starting work. 2. Validate the packing slip with the list of parts in the instructions. 3. Turn off ignition and all lights. NOTE: For information on vehicle batteries, see the chassis provided operators manual. 4. Disconnect the Negative (Black) battery cable(s) and tie away from the terminal to prevent accidental contact. Orange hood strut lock 5

Keyless Module Removal NOTE: Keep all hardware and fasteners for reuse. 1. Remove the access panel from the overhead shelf above the windshield. 2. Disconnect harnesses from existing module.

Harness connectors on existing module 3. Remove fasteners securing module to overhead shelf and set aside. Module Installation CAUTION: Be careful NOT to damage any of the wires or cables when drilling into the overhead shelf. 1. From the under side of the overhead shelf, align the RH holes in the replacement module 2" from the rear edge and 14" from RH edge. Use the module as a template to mark the hole location. NOTE: Check the harness length to the switch bracket BEFORE drilling. 2. Use the switch bracket as a guide to measure and mark holes 3-1/4" from rear edge and maximum of 4" from RH module edge. 3. Use a #11-bit to drill (4) holes for the module and a F-bit to drill (2) holes for the switch bracket. 4. Secure module with (4) bolts and nuts and switch bracket with (2) 1/4-20 fasteners. 7 Harness Connectors 1. Connect (A) 12-pin module connector (Black) to the harness. 2. Connect (B) 8-pin module connector (Gray) to harness. 3. Connect (C) 8-pin module connector (Black) to harness. 4. Connects (D) 2-pin solenoid harness to the main dash harness. 5. Connect (E) 8-pin module connector (Black) to the programming switch. 6. Connect the Negative (Black) battery cable(s). Validate Work Check that the wire harnesses are NOT stretched, taut, pinched, or supporting their own weight. Check that all wire harnesses are secured and routed away from sharp edges.

Check maximum distance of secure points (wire ties or P-clamps) is 18". Check that the battery connections are fully secured. Post-Installation Inspection Do a full electrical check including the four-way flashers, dash backlights, cab and cargo dome lights, back-up camera, wiper system, horn, all exterior lighting, etc. Use the FOB to check that the all doors unlock. Check the rear door key override for proper release. Secure one FOB, the original ignition key, and door keys. Place the operator s guide in the cab area. Use Job Code 01-DB-18-N8 from this document to complete the SERVICED decal. Adhere the decal to the upper right-hand corner of the driver s door pocket panel next to the bulkhead wall. Do NOT cover any previously applied decals. NOTE: This service information is written in general terms.
