3 Uncrating 1. Open the crate to gain access to the mower. Tractor ssembly INSTLL THE RIVE TIRES 1. ttach the drive tires to the tractor, using the ten lug nuts from the hardware bag. Torque to 85 ft/lbs. INSTLL THE SET 1. ttach the seat (, Figure 1) to the seat bracket (), using the four 5/16-18 nylock flange nuts () from the hardware bag. Tighten the hardware. INSTLL THE HNLE RS 1. Slide the 1 set collar (E) onto the base of the handle bar and slide the handle bars () over the steering rod, ensuring that the grips are toward the seat. Refer to Figure 1 for the correct orientation. Position the 1 set collar at the base of the handle bars. Install the 3/8-16 X 1-1/2 bolt through the handle bar and steering rod and secure with the 3/8-16 nylock nut. Tighten the 1 set collar. heck Tractor ssembly HEK ENGINE OIL 1. Use the dipstick (, Figure 2) to check the engine oil level. If necessary add engine oil. heck the engine manufacturer s owner s manual for the specific oil recommendations. HEK HYRULI OIL LEVEL 1. Observe the oil reservoir (, Figure 7). The oil level should be at the FULL line (). 2. efore removing the reservoir cap, make sure the area around the reservoir cap is free of dust, dirt, or other debris. 3. If necessary, unscrew the reservoir cap and add either Mobil 1, 15W-50 synthetic oil or astrol Syntec 5W-50 oil. O NOT use conventional oils. Fill until oil level reaches FULL line. 4. 4 HEK TIRE PRESSURES Tire pressure should be checked periodically, and maintained at the levels shown in the chart. Note that these pressures may differ slightly from the Max Inflation stamped on the side-wall of the tires. The pressures shown provide proper traction, improve cut quality, and extend tire life. If not done in this order, the positive terminal can be shorted to the frame by a tool. 1. onnect the red positive battery cable (, Figure 4) to the positive battery post. 2. onnect the black negative battery cable () to the negative battery post. To disengage the pump (free-wheel position), turn the hydraulic release valve (, Figure 5) located on the hydraulic pump OUNTER-LOKWISE a maximum of 2 full turns. 2. isengage the parking brake. 5 HEK MOWER LE TORQUE WRNING Mower blades are sharp. For your personal safety, do not handle mower blades with bare hands. areless or improper handling of blades may result in serious injury. lade mounting bolts must each be installed with a flat washer then securely tightened. Torque the blade mounting bolts to 120 ft.lbs. (163 N.m.) 1. Lift the front edge of the deck and support with jackstands. 2. heck that blades are installed with the tabs pointing up toward the deck as shown in Figure 6. Torque the bolts to 120 ft.lbs. (163 N.m.). Figure 6. heck lade Torque. lade olt. Flat Washer TIGHTEN SSEMLE MOWER EK TO TRTOR 1. Refer to Figure 7. Place the deck on a flat, level surface. Place 2 x 4 blocks under each corner of the mower deck with the 3-1/2 sides being vertical. 2. isengage the hydraulic pump and roll the tractor to the mower deck; (refer to Push the Mower by Hand on Page 4). Install the top two 1/2-13 X 1-1/2 bolts (H), washers (I), and nuts (G) through the mower deck frame and the tractor frame as shown in Figure 8. Repeat for the other side. 3. To install the pusher roller, the drive tire must be removed. ssemble the pusher rollers through the pusher plate as shown in Figure 8. Repeat for the other side. Tighten all hardware. 6 MOWER ELT REPLEMENT NOTE: To avoid damaging belts, O NOT pry belts over pulleys. Mower eck rive elt 1. Park the machine on a smooth, level surface such as a concrete floor. isengage the PTO, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and remove the ignition key. 2. Remove the mower deck guard. WRNING Use extreme caution when rotating the idler arm with the combination wrench, due to the increased tension in the spring as the idler arm is being rotated. Injury may result if the combination wrench is prematurely released while the spring is under tension. 3. Using a 3/4 combination wrench, place the box end on the 1/2 nut located on the end of the idler arm (, Figure 9). arefully rotate the breaker bar LOKWISE, which will relieve the tension on the belt exerted from the idler arm. 4. Slide the drive belt over the edge of the stationary idler pulley (). arefully release the tension on the breaker bar until the idler arm comes to a stop. 6. Make sure the V-side of the belt runs in the pulley grooves. 7. Install the drive belt on the PTO pulley, the spindle pulleys, and all idler pulleys except the stationary pulley. arefully rotate the 3/4 combination wrench LOKWISE and install the belt on the stationary idler pulley. arefully release the tension on the 3/4 combination wrench. The belt should be routed exactly as shown in Figure Reinstall the mower deck guard. 9. Run the mower under no-load condition for about 5 minutes to break-in the new belt. heck the Mower elt Idler Tensioner Spring Length (S/N: & bove) 1. Park the machine on a smooth level surface such as a concrete floor. isengage the PTO, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine and remove the ignition key. 2. Lower the mower deck to its lowest cutting position. 3. Measure the coil length of the mower belt tension spring (). The measurement should equal 6-1/4 (15,9 cm). 7 djusting the Mower elt Idler Tensioner Spring Length (S/N: & bove) 1. Loosen the jam nut (, Figure 11). LURITION Lubricate the unit at the locations shown in Figure 12 as well as the following lubrication points. 2. Turn the adjustment nut () until 6-1/4 (15,9) is achieved. 3. Retighten the jam nut. Generally, all moving metal parts should be oiled where contact is made with other parts. Keep oil and grease off belts and pulleys. Remember to wipe fittings and surfaces clean both before and after lubrication. 8 Lubricating the Front asters Interval: nnually 1. Remove the 1/4-28 bolt (, Figure 13) that is screwed into the caster and install a 1/4-28 grease fitting. 2. Grease the front caster. 3. Remove the 1/4-28 grease fitting and reinstall the 1/4-28 bolt. 4. Repeat the process for the other side of the unit. Figure 13. Lubricating the Front asters. 1/4-28 olt FUEL 1. Remove the fuel cap (, Figure 14). 2. Fill the fuel tank. NOTE: o not overfill. Leave approximately 1 of room in the tank, below the bottom of the filler neck for fuel expansion. Refer to your engine manual for specific fuel recommendations. 3. Install and hand tighten the fuel cap. STRT THE ENGINE 1. Engage the parking brake and make sure the PTO switch is disengaged and the foot pedal is in the NEUTRL position. 2. Set the engine throttle control to FULL throttle position. Then fully close the choke by pulling the knob OUT fully. 3. Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the STRT position. 4. fter the engine starts, gradually open the choke (push knob down fully). Figure 14. dd Fuel. Fuel Tank ap 8
9 Perform Safety hecks FUNTIONL TESTS SFETY INTERLOK SYSTEM WRNING isengage the PTO, stop the engine, and wait for moving parts to stop before leaving operator s position for any reason. If the mower does not pass the test, do not operate mower. Under no circumstance should you attempt to defeat the purpose of the safety system. 1. heck the mower for loose bolts, screws, nuts, etc. 2. Start the engine and check all controls for proper operation: ground speed control lever, throttle cable, electric PTO clutch, etc. 3. Stop the engine and check for fluid leaks. 4. If any control fails to operate properly during testing or seems to be out of adjustment, check and readjust it according to the following djustments section. This unit is equipped with safety interlock switches and other safety devices. These safety systems are present for your safety, do not attempt to bypass safety switches, and never tamper with safety devices. heck their operation regularly. Operational SFETY hecks Your unit is equipped with a foot-operated switch safety system. heck the switch operation every fall and spring with the following tests. Test 1 Engine should NOT crank if: PTO switch is engaged, OR Parking brake is not engaged, OR Operator presence plate is not depressed. Test 2 Engine SHOUL crank if: PTO switch is NOT engaged, N Parking brake is engaged, N Operator presence plate is depressed. Test 3 Engine should SHUT OFF if: Operator presence plate is released with PTO engaged, OR Operator presence plate is released with parking brake disengaged. NOTE: Once the engine has stopped, PTO switch must be turned off, parking brake must be engaged. Test 4 lade rake heck Mower blades and mower drive belt should come to a complete stop within seven (7) seconds after electric PTO switch is turned off (or operator presence plate is released). If mower drive belt does not stop within seven (7) seconds, see PTO LUTH JUSTMENT section. WRNING If the unit does not pass a safety test, do not operate it. See your authorized dealer. Under no circumstance should you attempt to defeat the purpose of the safety interlock system. 9
10 EK LIFT RO TIMING JUSTMENT 1. Park machine on a flat, level surface. isengage the PTO, stop the engine, and engage the parking brake. Make sure that all of the tires are properly inflated. 2. Place a level (, Figure 15) on top of the cutting height indicator (E) and adjust the cutting height indicator up or down with the deck height adjustment handle () until the cutting height indicator is level. 3. Loosen, but do not remove the height indication plate hardware () that secures the height indicator plate (). Maneuver the height indicator plate up or down until the cutting height indicator points to the 3.25 (8,26 cm) mark. Tighten the height indication plate hardware. 4. Refer to Figure 16. To check the deck lift rod timing, measure and record the distance between the lift pivots and the rod pivots. Repeat for the other side of unit. 5. If the measurements for the rods and pivots are equal, no further adjustment is required. If the measurements are NOT equal (greater than 1/8 (3,17 mm) difference), adjustment is required, continue with Step lock up the mower deck until all hanger chains are slack. 7. Refer to Figure 17. To adjust the lift rods the 1/2-20 steel clevises (, Figure 17) will need to be adjusted. Loosen the 1/2-20 jam nut () that tightens against the clevis. Remove the cotter pin (E), and the clevis pin () that are connected to the front deck lift pivot (). Turn the clevis to adjust the length of the rod. Reinstall the clevis pin and the hair pin. Tighten the 1/2-20 jam nut. Measure and record the distance between the lift pivots and the rod pivots. Repeat the process until the measurements are equal. E Figure 15. eck Height Position. 11 EK LEVELING JUSTMENT NOTE: efore adjusting the deck level, the deck lift rod timing must be checked and if necessary, adjusted. 1. Park machine on a flat, level surface. isengage the PTO, stop the engine, engage the parking brake, and remove the key from the ignition. Make sure that all of the tires are properly inflated. 2. rank the deck height adjustment handle so the cutting height indicator points to the 3.25 (8,26 cm). See Figure 18. Figure 18. eck Height Position. utting Height Indicator 3. Manually position the left hand mower blade so that the tip of the blade is pointing towards the front and back of the mower. 4. Measure from the front tip of the blade on the cutting edge to the ground. Record this distance. 5. Measure from the back tip of the blade on the cutting edge to the ground. Record this distance. 6. Repeat steps # 3-5 for right hand blade. 7. Place blocking under each corner of the mower deck until the front of the blade to the ground measures 3-1/4 (8,3 cm) and the back of the blade to the ground measures 3-1/2 (8,9 cm). 8. Loosen the hardware that tightens the bottom of the hanger chain (, Figure 20) to the deck. Slide the chains down in the slots until the chains are tight and tighten the nuts. See Figure Remove the blocks from under the deck. 10. Repeat steps # 3-6 to check the blade height measurements. The front measurement should be 3-1/4 and the rear measurement should be 3-1/2. If the measurements are correct, no further adjustment is necessary. If they are not correct continue with Step Loosen the jam nut (, Figure 20) on the adjuster bolt () in the chain hanger clevis (). Turn the adjuster bolt until the correct measurements are achieved. Ensure that all four hanger chains are taut, then retighten the jam nut against the chain hanger clevis. Figure 19. 12 RETURN TO NEUTRL JUSTMENT If the tractor creeps (gradually moves forward or backwards) while the transmission foot control pedal is in the neutral position, then it may be necessary to adjust transmission foot control pedal neutral adjustment. 1. Park the machine on a flat, level surface. isengage the PTO, stop the engine, and engage the parking brake. 2. Loosen the set collars (, Figure 21) that are located on the top and bottom of the neutral return spring (F.) 3. Loosen the neutral lock plate hardware (.) If the machine creeps forward, slide the neutral lock plate () and the pump control arm () slightly to the right. If the machine creeps backwards, slide the neutral lock plate and the pump control arm slightly to the left. Retighten the hardware that secures the neutral lock plate. 4. Refer to 21. Make sure that the top plastic bushing (E) is seated tightly against the top of the neutral return bracket (G). Make sure that the bottom plastic bushing (E) is seated tightly against the bottom of the neutral return bracket. Tighten the set collars (). NOTE: This adjustment should not be performed while the machine is running. It may take several attempts to achieve neutral, depending up how much the machine creeps. G F E E Figure 21. 13 PRKING RKE JUSTMENT 1. Park the machine on a flat, level surface. isengage the PTO, stop the engine, and engage the parking brake. 2. hock the drive tires and then release the parking brake handle 3. Locate the two parking brake springs (, Figure 22). One is located on the left rear side of the engine deck by the left drive wheel and the other is located on the rear right side of the engine deck by the right drive wheel. 4. Loosen the set collar (,) and then tighten it snugly against the white brake spring. Repeat process for other side. 5. Re-engage the parking brake handle and unchock the wheels.
