1 INTELLIQUILTER INSTALLATION ON PRODIGY VERSION COMPUTER BRACKET Remove the drop-in nuts from the tablet mounting bracket and insert them in the slots at the top of the upper arm, just behind the head. Fig. 1 Fig. 2 Mount the tablet mounting bracket, pushing it to the back of the head. Remove the yellow thumbscrews, the other two screws and the double nuts from the docking station. Mount the docking station so the slanted brackets are on the outside of the of the slotted computer bracket. Mount the docking station with the screws and double nuts. Set the desired height and tilt of the docking station. NOTE that it can be lowered below the upper edge of the head for easy viewing and handling. Tighten the screws. 1

THREAD BREAK DETECTOR Position the thread break detector on the top of the arm, so the hole in the bracket is about 6" from the rear edge of the head and the sensor wheel is positioned in the thread path ( A ). Mark the position of the edge of the bracket. Clean the surface where the bracket will be placed by alcohol. Remove the clear protective foil from the double-sided tape on the bracket and push it firmly to the surface. Set the wheel position so it is aligned with the thread path as Fig. 3 shows. Note the proper threading direction: it should be wrapped around the wheel clockwise. Fig. 3 2

3 3. Y-MOTOR RAIL On a flat surface push together the two halves of the Y-motor rail, so the machined ends meet seamlessly. Tighten the bolts. Fig. 4 Measure the center-to-center distance between the top t-slots of the front and rear crossbar of the carriage. Loosen all the ¼ screws on the length adjustment plates ( A on Fig. 6) and set the distance of the bolts in the right-angle brackets to the same distance. Remove the plastic endcaps ( A ) from the right side (viewed from the front) of the front and rear cross-brackets of the carriage. Push in the B brackets of the Y- motor rail, set the edge of the brackets at about 1-3/4 from the edge of the crossbrackets, as Fig. 6 shows. Make sure that the rail is perfectly parallel with the lower arm and tighten the ¼ bolts on the angle brackets. 3

5 4. Y-MOTOR Remove the drop-in nuts ( A ) from the Y-motor bracket and insert them in the lower t-slot of the lower arm. Mount the Y-motor bracket, pushing it close to the front wheel axle. Fig. 7 Fig. 8 5

6 Remove its plastic cover from the Y-motor. Push all the connectors down, for they may have loosened during shipping. Mount the motor on the bracket. Temporarily place the cover on the motor and move the bracket further forward to provide clearance from the stylus holder ( A ). If the stylus holder is in the way even when the motor bracket is pushed to the front axle, remove it or push it back about 1.5. Use a 1/8 right-angle Allen wrench to loosen/remove the mounting screw from the bottom of the bracket. Align the motor so that both the drive roller and sensor wheel run in the middle of the outer surface of the rail. There should be a 0.04" (1mm) gap (about one credit card thickness) between the drive roller and the track when all the screws are fully tightened. Move the drive roller and sensor wheel in/out to achieve the best alignment.. 7 4. X-MOTOR Remove the endcap from the left side of the front crossbar of the carriage ( A ). Remove the drop-in nuts from the X-motor bracket and slide them it the T-slot on the top. Mount the motor bracket with the drop-in nuts and align it so the mounting screws ( B ) are in the middle of the slots, as shown on Fig. 9. Put back the endcap. Fig. 9 Mount the X-motor and set its position so both the drive roller and the sensor wheel run securely on the bottom of the table rail, as Fig. 10 shows. There should be a 0.04" (1mm) gap (about one credit card thickness) between the drive roller and the rail when all the screws are fully tightened. 9 5. JUNCTION BOX, STOPPER Remove the end cap from the right side of the rear crossbar (viewed from the back). Loosen its T-nut and slide in the junction box bracket in the T-slot, to the middle of the crossbar, as Fig. 11 shows. Tighten the mounting screw and put back the endcap. Fig. 11 9

10 The red stopper strip needs to be placed on the top of the front table rail, near the left end, where it would prevent both motors from bumping into the frame. Fig

11 6. INSTALLATION OF CABLES Remove the black cover from the back of the arm. Pull the switch-adapter cable through the upper channel opening on the back plate. Connect the in-line adapter as Fig. 13 shows (red wire at the bottom): - Unplug the phone cable from connector A of the control board and plug it in the upper left connector (1) of the adapter. - Insert the short extension cable between the upper right connector (2) of the adapter and connector A of the control board. - Unplug the phone cable from connector B of the control board and plug it in the lower left connector (3) of the adapter. - Insert the short extension cable between the lower right connector (4) of the adapter and connector B of the control board. Fig. 13 Run the switch cable in the channel of the upper arm as Fig. 14 and Fig. 15 show. Loop it under the controller and bring it to the docking station. 11

13 Connect the wires to the 6-position screw terminal as Fig. 16 shows. The wire order is: GREEN, WHITE, empty, RED, BLACK, empty. Fig. 16 Plug in the 6-position connector as Fig. 19 shows. Bring forward the computer cable, and plug in the two-position communication connector and the power jack as Fig. 19 shows. Leave a loop at the docking station and run the computer cable together with the switch cable in the upper channel of the upper arm as Fig. 14 and Fig.15 show. Secure the cables with a 4 insert on the front, 6 insert on the back. Cut the insert by snipping the sides first then bending to reveal the final cut. This will not distort the ends of the inserts allowing you to snap them into place easier. Run the computer cable in the vertical channel of the back of the arm and secure it with a 10 insert as Fig. 17 shows. Run the computer cable in the upper channel of the right side (viewed from the front) of the lower arm and secure it with a 6 insert as Fig. 17 shows. Plug in the Y-motor cable and run it inside the lower channel of the right side (viewed from the front) of the lower arm. Insert it together with the existing cable and secure them with the existing insert. 13

14 Fig. 17 Tie together the computer and the Y-motor cables in a loop, starting from the junction box. Even out the lengths by pushing/pulling the cables in the channels. Put back the rear cover. Plug in the X-motor cable. Plug in the thread break detector cable and connect it to the interface board as Fig. 19 shows. Secure the thread break detector cable at the top by a 4 insert as Fig. 18 shows. 14

16 Tie the cables to the post on the right side with a wire tie as Fig.20 shows. Fig. 20 Put the plastic covers on the motors. Pull up the cable in the slot at the side of the cover as Fig. 21 shows. Fig

17 Remove the protective cover from the terminal of the motor power supply. Fig. 22 Push the power cable through the wire-tie loop and connect the wires to the power supply: BLACK wire to the negative terminal, the wire with the in-line diode to the positive terminal. Tighten the wire tie. Replace the protective cover. Mount the power supply on the bottom of the tabletop using 14" cable ties. 17

18 Turn on the computer. When the booting completes, the motors will be engaged with the tracks. Select and quit Manual Mode repeatedly to see if the motors are sufficiently disengaged all along the tracks and make the necessary height adjustments. Make sure that the gap between the rollers and the tracks is not more than 0.04" (1mm). Try to set the gap to the minimum safe distance, so there is no intermittent drag along the tracks. Go to Utilities > Configuration > Motor Control Setup/Test. Run the X-Motor Auto Setup and Y-Motor Auto Setup utilities. Go to System->Interface Setup/Test. Ask the customer to set her/his preference for half or full cycle when the single stitch switch is pushed. Set the Single Stitch Phase accordingly. If the half stitch option is selected, warn the customer that the needle should be set at the top position before entering the Sew Quilt or Preview mode. Test the single stitch and start switches, and the thread break detector. Note that the detector works only when the machine is stitching (the Start Switch label is red). If the needle positioner is slow on the machine, increase the delays before and after the single stitch. Set the local date and time. Enter at least eight digits: two digits for the month, two digits for the day, two digits for hours (in 24-hour format) and two digits for minutes. Continue with another four digits for the year only if the display does not show the proper year. Show the brightness control to the customer and set the desired level (1 7).
