1 BID SPECIFICATION SHREDDER/GRINDER TUB TYPE Vermeer TG800 GENERAL The intent of this specification is to describe a tub-type shredder/grinder which is fullyassembled, trailer mounted, diesel-powered which will accept and process organic material to a reduced or compost material. DIMENSIONS ENGINE Total width: for transport, 13 7 with flares folded out Total length: 43 centerline kingpin to back of conveyor folded to transport Total weight: 94,000 lbs. GVRW and empty fuel Total height: 13 5 transport The engine shall be a Caterpillar 3412E, 12 cylinder, direct injected twin turbo charged, with 800 horsepower at 2100 rpm. The engine shall be liquid cooled, have a dry type air cleaner, full flow oil filter, and primary and secondary fuel filters with water separators. The engine compartment shall be enclosed and have access from both sides with vandal resistant locks. HYDRAULIC SYSTEM The hydraulic pumps shall be driven from an SAE pump drive on the engine and transmission. The rotational direction of the tub shall be reversible. There shall be two loadsense pumps and two gear pumps. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The electrical system shall be a 24-volt, negative ground system. A. Two 12-volt, lead acid, wet cell batteries 8-D, not less than 1155 minimum CCA at 0 F manufacturer s rated capacity. B. Alternator shall not be less than 75 amperes minimum rated capacity, with no less than 20 amperes minimum capacity at engine idle. All electrical circuits shall have circuit breaker/spade style fuse protection. The unit shall be equipped with an electrical battery ground disconnect. RADIATOR There shall be a minimum radiator inlet area of 3507 in² and screen air inlet area of 8350 in².

2 FUEL TANK The fuel tank must have enough capacity to run for a minimum of 12 hours, minimum of a 465-gallon tank, 10-micron filter breather, and mechanical and electrical gauges. The tank shall be shock-mounted. HYDRAULIC TANK The hydraulic tank shall be a minimum of 150 gallons with full flow return filtration, plugged filter indicator on control panel, 10 micron filter breather, sight gauge, temperature gauge, vandal lock cap, and hydraulic oil cooler mounted in front of the radiator. DRIVELINE The grinder shall be gear reduction driven at a 2:1 ratio to engine RPM through a 10C driveline. PTO: PT Tech wet clutch with 2:1 gear reduction, microprocessor controlled with builtin torque limiting INSTRUMENTS The instrument panel must have a lockable, vandal resistant enclosure safely located from all moving parts. All controls and instruments shall be plainly marked and labeled. There shall be a fold-out dash panel for ease of maintenance and inspection. The unit must be equipped with a decal stating, Safe Thrown Object Area. The unit shall be equipped with the following as standard equipment: A. Falling object canopy over control panel N. 3 SAFETY FEATURES THROWN OBJECT RESTRAINT SYSTEM The machine shall be equipped with a thrown object restraint system. This system shall consist of a deflector at the rotor, which directs material carried around the grinding chamber by the hammers to a cover positioned above the tub. The cover shall be rotated hydraulically into transport or operating position. Hydraulically operated latches will lock the cover in operating or transport positions. Controls to position the cover for operation or transport shall be located on the control panel and on the remote control. FALLING OBJECT PROTECTION SYSTEM The machine shall be equipped with a falling object protection system. This system shall consist of a swing-out side panel and a swing-up top panel to shield the control station. The canopy shall be manually operated with gas assist cylinders for the top panel. OTHER SAFETY ITEMS The machine shall be equipped with handrails where climbing on the machine is necessary. There will be four safety cones, three hard hats, and one fire extinguisher provided with each machine. There shall be a motion sensor on the driveline so the tub can t be tilted while the hammer mill is turning. There shall be a second electrical lockout located on the fender by the hammer mill. CONVEYORS TUB A. The belly conveyor shall be a 60 wide by ½ thick USFLEX belt. Hydraulic motors shall be direct coupled to a 14 diameter drive pulley. The conveyor must have relubricatable drive and idler pulleys with remote grease fittings for out-of-reach bearings. The conveyor belt speed shall be adjustable from ft/min. B. The rear discharge conveyor shall be a 48 wide by 3/8 thick belt. The discharge conveyor must have a maximum loading height of 18. Hydraulic motors shall be direct coupled to a 14 diameter drive pulley. The conveyor must have relubricatable drive and idler pulleys with remote grease fittings for out-of-reach bearings. The conveyor belt speed shall be adjustable from ft/min. The rear discharge conveyor shall be able to fold over the top of the tub for transport. There shall be an optional magnetic head pulley for metal extraction. The tub shall be a minimum of 11 inside diameter with a folding 13 7 top flare opening. The tub shall have a minimum depth of 54. The loading height shall be The tub wall shall be constructed of a minimum of 3/8 grade 50 steel with welded-in flare support gussets. The tub wall must flare out at the bottom to allow the hammer mill to cut even with the tub wall eliminating bridging. A minimum of 4-6 agitators shall be installed to rotate material into the hammer mill.

4 SCREENS The mill opening in the floor shall be a minimum of 32 ½ x 66 with a 1 ½ x 2 ½ reinforcing bar welded-in below the cutting edge. The tub floor shall be constructed from ½ T1 plate. The tub platform shall have 8 carrier rollers with load equalizer. The rotation and speed of the tub shall be reversible and variable with controls at the control panel. Two hydraulic motors with positive chain drive and a single 160 chain shall rotate the tub. The tub shall be raised and lowered by two hydraulic cylinders with lockout valves. The tub shall tilt sideways for easy access to hammer mill area, screens, and belly conveyor with full open position being no less than 90. The tub shall be able to rotate in either direction when tilted. There shall be screens located on two sides of the hammer mill. Screens shall be constructed so that they can be removed without unbolting or removing welds. Screens shall be constructed of 1 Hardox 400 steel with 2 ½ x 4 T-1 breaker bar. There shall be vertical reinforcement ribs on the backside of the screens. HAMMER MILL Hammermill shall be of a drum design. Rotation of the hammer mill shall be 2:1 ratio to the engine s rpm. The hammer mill shall be a minimum of 62 long, with a 30 diameter reversible drum, with replaceable end caps. End caps shall include stub shafts for bearing placement, as well as replaceable, hard faced wipers to prevent build up of material between the drum and end walls of the millbox. The hammermill drum shall contain one removable, retaining pin that runs through the center of all hammers. The hammer mill bearings shall be 5.51 spherical roller bearings with a fabricated onepiece steel housing. Rear bearing housing shall be an expansion style housing. HAMMERS The hammer mill drum assembly shall be able to set-up with 10 hammers. Hammers shall be fixed style, have a 36 cutting tip diameter and angled at 5 degrees. Each hammer shall retain two cutting blocks, 180 degrees apart from each other. Hammer cutter configuration shall be: A. Set of 10, fixed, 4140 annealed cold drawn hardened hammers with replaceable, forged, saddleback, 2.75 cutter blocks B. All Hammers are to be impact tested. TRAILER There shall be a heavy-duty, all steel construction trailer rated at not less than 20,000 lbs. per axle. Width of the unit with tub grinder installed and adjusted for transport shall not exceed Wheels and tires: Sixteen 255/70 R ply tires with highway tread and mounted on 22.5 x 8 steel wheels shall be included for all units.

5 WIRING WELDING Fenders: The fenders are to be constructed of steel and are to allow tire clearance for tire service when the trailer is fully loaded. The top of the fender shall be covered with a non-slip surface. Each fender shall have a rear facing mud flap. Kingpin: There shall be a 2 SAE heavy-duty forged kingpin with a ½ thick Bolster plate. Mainframe: The mainframe shall be constructed with 36 and 43 fabricated I-beams. Axles: The trailer must have four 20,000 lb. axles. The axles shall be equipped with grease-filled bearings and metal dust caps. There shall be a minimum of 22 ½ of ground clearance to the frame. Springs: The springs shall be 3 wide single leaf slipper. Brakes: There shall be full air trailer brakes with 16 ½ x 7 S-cam air brakes on all wheels. The system shall comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard requirements. Landing gear: The landing gear shall be hydraulic heavy-duty, adjustable type. Removable pads will provide a level trailer frame. Glad hands: Aluminum plate glad hands shall be mounted to the front of the machine. Lighting: The trailer shall conform to all federal regulations. A seven-pole light connector will be wired according to ATA code. All wiring will be assembled with crimped connectors and will be properly insulated. All wire passing through bulkheads and partitions shall have rubber grommet for chafe protection. All welding fillets shall have good penetration, fusion, and appearance. They shall not show any cracks or under-cutting. WORKMANSHIP All workmanship, welding, and construction shall be subject to inspection and approval. REMOTE CONTROLS Remote controls shall be standard with this machine. The functions on the remote shall be: Emergency stop; engine throttle; tub speed; tub manual/auto; tub forward/reverse; TORS position; loadout conveyor speed, lift, and swing.
