2 Who is TUIasi Racing? TUIasi Racing is Gheorghe Asachi s Technical University team committed to designing, testing, building and competing with an open-wheeled race car in the Formula Student competition. As a recognized student organization, the TUIasi Racing team, now in its third year, with two completed competitions and one race car, is comprised of various majors and currently serves as a educational project for both machine manufacturing, mechanical and electrical engineers and to all interested in this field. The project provides invaluable hands-on experience in automotive design as well as project management to its participants. What is Formula Student? Formula Student is an engineering and design competition sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and automobile manufacturers worldwide. The competition is based upon the design, manufacturability, and performance of a student-constructed, open-wheel race car marketed for the cost-minded weekend auto-crosses. Each year, a new chassis must be fabricated in compliance with specific guidelines set forth by the board of Formula Student. The rules require the team to be ran like a business, with full documentation on the manufacturing cost, design methodologies, with a sales pitch, as well as a thorough cost and design review.

3 This competition is not just about building and racing a fast car, it s about learning how to create and sell the best package to a potential auto manufacturer for mass production. Formula Student competitions are organized worldwide, in the United States of America, South America, Europe, Asia. With the right blend of performance, reliability, and sponsorship, TUIasi Racing could be competing in more than one of these competitions that are held in Europe; Formula Student UK, Formula SAE Italy, Formula Student Germany, Formula Student Spain, Formula Student Austria or Formula Student Hungary. Acceleration Skidpad Autocross Endurance (Main Event) Fuel Economy 100 Total Points 1000 History TUIasi Racing participated in two Formula Student competitions, Formula Student Spain in September 2012 and Formula Student Hungary in August Last year s team performed very well at the Formula Student competition held in Hungary obtaining the 32 overall place. Other notable achievements include taking 24 th place the Acceleration event, 25 th in the Engineering Design & 28 th in the Skid Pad Event. The car used a Honda CBR600 engine, had a full fiber glass body shell and seat and a variety of machined aluminum parts. Our performance was limited by the lack of a differential and a relatively heavy tubular spaceframe, both solutions being imposed by limited funding.

6 Results Highlights 2012 Formula Student Spain First year entry in Formula Student competitions, passed successfully the scrutineering onto Dynamic Events; 2 nd Romanian team participating Formula Student Hungary 1st Romanian team participating at FSH ever; Participated to all static and dynamic events Design Goals For the next concept we want to increase reliability and drivability based on the experience gained from two completed competitions and decrease the weight from 302 Kg to 240 Kg approx. To achieve this we need to change the steel frame and fiber glass body to a carbon fiber monoqoque while maintaining adequate safety. Other areas which we want to improve or to achieve: Limited Slip Differential ; Fully tuned intake and exhaust for maximum horsepower; Data acquisition system for both driver training and fine-tuning of the vehicle configuration; Increased driver ergonomics; Adjustable anti-roll/sway bars; Electro-pneumatic paddle shifters to decrease shifting times.

7 2015 Budget Required Due to the new design, we will need an approximate budget as below. The budget was calculated based on the budget of the last monopost and taking into consideration the new ideas that we want to achieve.
