3 COAL AND CCK± STAT1TICS (a) Coal Production. Imoorta. Exr?orts Production of coal during the month of August amounted to 401,711 tons, a decrease of 47.6 per cent from the output in August, Production of coal from stripping operations in August amounted to 163,173 tons, or 40.6 per cent of the total output. This was a decrease of 23.3 per cent from the strip mine output in August, Landed imports of coal during the month under review amounted to 1,757,194 tons, a decrease of 28.7 per cent, compared with landed imports in August, xports of coal for the month amounted to 14,233 tons, compared with 32,181 tons in the corresponding month of last year. Imports, Exports Production of coke from ovens and gas retorts during the month of august, 1958, amounted to 259,610 tons, as compared with 307,679 tons in the previous month and 366,1+02 tons in August, r nage produced during the month included 186,863 tons from Ontario. Chnres to ovens or retorts during the month included 59,014 tons of Canadian coal and 296,267 tons of imported coal. Proiucers' stocks of oven and retort coke, excluding Lreeze, on August 31st, , amounted to 141,474 tons, of which 39,262 tons were located in Ontario. Stocks of breeze totalled 54,506 tons.
