Student Attendance Area Committee September 13, 2018 ES Existing Cond.
Introductions A review of the history of the attendance boundary committee Our agenda for today An update on the work of the summer subcommittee What do we think will be the work of this committee moving forward? How do we engage in our work together? And what tools do we use to look at attendance maps?
A History Growth challenges in the north specifically Cordata and Squalicum Middle School capacity challenges, especially at Shuksan The expansion of two elementary schools with change in middle school boundaries Where did we end in June 2018? Elementary and Middle scenarios
The summer sub-committee did not finalize any decisions. But tried to create more detailed options. Summer Subcommittee The summer sub-committee explored ways minimize the number of moves and still accomplish our goal. The summer sub-committee looked closely at the recommended options for middle school versions and then identified the elementary options that aligned.
Summer Subcommittee Choices D3 and (D2, D4, D5) A3, A7 Questions
What will be the work of this committee moving forward? What is the rationale for moving towards a 2 year plan for possible shifts to our attendance boundaries? How do we explain and discuss distance in travel that accomplishes a hope we have for more equitable schools? How do we develop a plan, communicate ideas for shifting our boundaries, and gather feedback from the larger community? How do we anticipate potential growth. Example: Sunnyland and north. Other questions? Ex. What role does the committee play in helping schools with family transitions?
What are tools we use to engage in this work?
