AMA CHARTER 1040 GOLD LEADERSHIP CLUB Welcome Back, WHEELS UP by Steve Gelman With our flying season approaching fast, it s time to have our ground crews assess the field and recommend repairs. Some things to review would be rolling the field, patching the pit area, clean up and weed killer. I plan on meeting with the Board in early April to discuss this further. Our Winter Banquet at the Continental Restaurant went well and thanks to all who shared this time with us. The FAA has mandated that all model aircraft must be identified on the outside of the airframe so it is easily visible. Let s keep this up from last season and be sure that all our aircraft is identified. In addition, you can easily print a label and tape it to the bottom of your plane. Our next meeting is Monday March 18th at 7:00 PM. Projects are welcome, so please bring your new plane as is, especially if you are stuck with something. I m sure that our members can give you some good suggestions or tips. Annual club dues are due, so please bring a check for Jim if you haven t paid already. Remember to renew your AMA Membership and FAA UAS registration too. Fun Fly Don Linder: Spring is coming Noise OPEN: Picnic OPEN Looking into permits for this year Proficiency Duane Lang: No Updates Programs OPEN: Safety Don Linder: there are no winter rules, do not fly out of the pits and please if there is snow out on the field do not walk out across the runway so those with skis don t have to worry about the potholes that are left behind, it makes for rough landings. Steve Noted that runway cost $25, The original cost of the carpet was with a shipping charge, There were 3 rolls that were 12 X 100 (1200 sq ft or sy) or 6.49 per square yard The underlayment was Contech C by in full We do not have the bill for the stone so in full it looks like a total of ( ) New Business Nobody is currently flying, Lyubo was at the field during the cold spell, his helicopter wouldn t even get off the ground, batteries would not last at the temperatures we were seeing. Bring in any completed (or works in progress) to the meetings for show and tell. Crash Reports -22 degrees below zero is way to cold to be even standing out there flying, soon though FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS We are collecting non-perishable foods for a local food pantry. The food pantry we are donating to the Palatine Township Food Bank, Please bring your donations to our monthly meetings. Thanks to Carl Will for delivering the Food to the Pantry.

He say s he couldn't pass up the deal, with 20% off (just so you know that s how it starts, before you know it your building racks for them, they re kinda like rabbits)

8 March 2019 Volume 26 Issue 3 Page 8 Steve Gelman brought in his Hanger 9 Carbon Cub which is powered by an OS 15 Gas Engine, He s been having trouble with the plane as the engine keeps overheating, Steve brought in his Moki 210 Glow engine and the cowl from his Glasair to demonstrate the way to decrease the chance of overheating is to Baffle the engine in the cowl to help direct the air over the engine and out of the cowl to keep the engine cool
