2 ***** Easy-Peasy FPV ***** During winter months I usually do my annual plane overall checkup making sure all is up-to-snuff for the arrival of spring. This routine consists of checking all the controls, control surfaces, ESC w/motor runup, landing gear, screws/bolts, & especially all the electrical connections. When I got to my ROC Hobby V-Tail glider, I had the cockpit hatch off & while looking at it, it became quite obvious that there was sufficient room to install one of the micro FPV setups. I pulled out my FPV box & laid out an Eachine TX03 multi-power VTX camera, a pan mount w/servo, & had the right size Turnigy 1S/2000mah LiPo battery for power. I mounted the VTX to a small piece of 1/8 ply I had epoxied to the pan mount & zip tied it since the heat from the VTX may melt hot glue, soften epoxy, or melt the plastic mount. I carefully removed the canopy & measured the inside dimensions of the cockpit after removing the pilot bust. I cut a piece of 1/8 rectangular ply to fit inside & Shoo Goo'd the pan mount servo to the ply. Fit perfectly & using Shoo Goo again to keep in place inside the cockpit, I placed the canopy over it to mark the cutout opening for the cam & antenna making sure the pan mount would turn both directions without hitting the canopy. 2

Next was to mark the bottom of the cockpit where the battery would

The battery fit perfect & then I painted the ply inside the cockpit.

3 Next was to mark the bottom of the cockpit where the battery would sit. The bottom of the cockpit was thick enough that the battery would be flush when in place. I cut the opening & measured the inside of the rear cockpit area for another piece of 1/8 ply to epoxy in place. I added Velcro to the underside for attaching the battery. The battery fit perfect & then I painted the ply inside the cockpit. Next, I made a small hole for the servo & VTX wires to exit the rear of the cockpit for connection. Now I was ready to Shoo Goo the VTX mount inside the cockpit & reinstall the canopy. I used rubber bands to hold the canopy on while I operated the pan servo with my servo tester & movement was clear of the canopy & moved perfectly in both directions. I then used canopy glue to reattach the canopy to the cockpit. 3

Since I had a 6ch Spektrum AR600 already in place, no landing gear on the glider, all I had to do was move the FLAPS servo plug to the GEAR channel & plug the pan servo lead to the AUX1 channel. I had to program the servo speed on the GEAR channel to slow from 425 speed to 100 speed. Operating the GEAR switch allowed the FLAPS to drop nice & slow...perfect. Getting the AUX1 VTX pan servo to operate the right way took a bit of playing with the programming mixing AUX2 (switch) to AUX1 ch so the 3-position switch would have the cam forward in the middle position, switch UP would move the cam LEFT, & switch DOWN would move the cam RIGHT. It's all done & ready for an FPV maiden...if Mother Nature decides to bring us here in SW PA some flying weather!!! Author: Dennis Pollock 4

Indoor flying sessions are being held for small electric craft throughout the colder months at the Saltsburg Center, 718 Pine Street, Saltsburg, PA (only a short distance from our field). $6.00 for 3 hours, from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
