6 About the FLOX-COAL-II Project First project FLOX-COAL from 2005 to 2009 (Contract No.: RFCR-CT ) Project partners: 8 Funded by the RFCS under the umbrella of Technical Group 3 (coal combustion, clean and efficient coal technologies, CO 2 capture) Contract No.: RFCR-CT Duration: starting in July 2011, finishing in June 2014 (36 months) 7

7 Project Goals and Steps The FLOX-COAL-II project aimed for a suitable scale-up methodology. simulation tools capable to predict flow fields, temperature distributions and NOx emissions from pulverized coal FLOX burners Therefore, the following steps are required: Fundamental experimental investigations of flameless combustion at pilot-scale (500kW) Development of an enhanced NOx sub-model for CFD simulations Development of an enhanced gas emissivity sub-model for CFD simulations Testing of flame supervision equipment Consideration of safety issues 8
