2 Letter From the Editor Another year has come to a close with our annual Holiday Dinner. We had a very good turnout with 20 or so attending. Harry s had setup a single long table and we had the back section mostly to ourselves (the bar had its usual contingent watching the football games). The very back area by the fireplace was used for the cake and raffle prize display area. Most of the raffle prizes were brought in by Barbara Miller. Tony, myself and maybe others also contributed. But Joe, Barbara, and Dan Miller were already there and the tables had previously been arranged by Harry s staff. All we had to do was layout the cake, raffle prizes, and sit back and catch up on old times. In short order most of the others arrived and by 7:00 the table was almost full. In years past we would sit and talk for a half hour or so before going to get dinner, but this year most people, it seems, were pretty hungry and so ordered dinner first. The friendly conversation would occur over dinner. There were so many prizes this year that everybody got more than one (actually some got more than 2). What a treat! By 9:00 most people were starting the trek home on full stomachs and doggy-bags in tow. The left over cake was given to the staff in appreciation for their setting up the tables and taking care of us in general. Ed was going to especially thank Harry s management for their hospitality. It was so good to see everybody and I want to thank people for coming out and making this such a fun evening. I especially want to thank Barbara Miller for bringing her father and brother and organizing the Raffle. For those that were unable to attend, there are several pictures on (see Dinner... on page 3) On The Cover: Here is the cake for our Holiday Dinner that has become an annual event for the past 10 years or so. The Spyder Web is published twelve times a year by SFBA Corsa, Chapter 947 of the Corvair Society Of America (CORSA). The group meets monthly on the first Thursday at 7:00 PM at Denny s in Danville except for special occasions. Membership costs $25/yr (membership in CORSA, $38/yr, is encouraged). An associate membership (newsletter only) is avialable for $15/yr. Memberships begin on January 1 of each year (first year is prorated until September). Advertising space in the Spyder Web is available for $50/yr (1/4 page), $75/yr (1/2 page), and $100/yr (full page). Business card size ads are $25/yr but do not include a subscription to the newsletter. All material should be sent to the editor (address above) or ed to CorsaNews@Bigfoot.com. Material must be received at least two weeks prior to the next meeting date. USE OF MATERIAL: Written permission from the Editor is required for all original material for any use other than reprinting in a Chartered CORSA Chapter newsletter. 3 Dinner... pages 6-7 taken by my wife and myself. Ken Lewis brought all of the bank stuff this evening and handed it over to Fred who is taking over as Treasurer. Ken is now working in Bakersfield four days per week and will move permanently in June. It s a bit hot there but a lot more affordable than the Bay Area. For those of you that have read previous Spyder Web issues may know that Rob Massari has been restoring a 64 Spyder Coupe (with a HP engine) he got from Skip Polachi some months ago. He is currently working on the brakes and sent in this picture showin his progress. Looks great without the road grime that is sure to come. We look forward to seeing his car on the road in the near future. Not that it's terribly interesting, but the attached photo shows the right rear brake on the '64 Spyder I am re-building. We got the brakes system completed yesterday and with the new springs, shocks, bumpers and cleaned up drums, A-arms and axles - it looks pretty good. It only takes a few hundred miles until they will look as dirty as all brake systems, but it's nice looking for now. ha-ha-ha - Rob Note that I have prepared a tentative Meeting Schedule for 2014 shown on page 4. We would like to schedule a Tech Session or two and are looking for volunteers to host one. Anyone looking for help on a Corvair problem that they have? I recall when our regular monthly meetings had this many (or more) people (especially quarterly the pot-lucks when many wives came). It was so good to see everybody. There are a few members that have not been synchronized with a January due date, check your newsletter mailing label. It helps the Club to have everyone due at the same time, so if your renewal date is mid-year, why not renew early and prorate your dues?
