BP Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan The Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan was founded in November 1975 by a group of individuals with the desire to protect and preserve the Ford Mustang as one of the most attractive and fun filled cars ever made available. We are enthusiasts of all ages with a love affair of the many generations of America s Premiere Pony Car. Whether it s a coupe, convertible or fast back from 1964 ½ to the new 2005 GT or the 2007 Cobra, we love them all. The mission of club members is to collect, restore and preserve the history of the Mustang along with the stories of the people and the roles that they played in making this one of the great cars of the 20 th Century. Although ownership is not a requirement for membership, your enthusiasm, expertise and and/or love of the automobile are most welcome. Many of our club members own one or more Mustangs in varying body styles, models and years. Club members are always exchanging information, providing sources for parts, literature and helpful hints for restoring or maintaining their Mustangs. Our members are a diverse group of individuals, located throughout Southeastern Michigan and all share a great appreciation for the Ford Mustang. Our general membership meetings are held on the 2 nd Tuesday of each month. Our monthly newsletter, The Accelerator, provides the members with reports on club activities, technical information, advertisements and business service locations and more. Some club activities include car shows, picnics, sporting events, cruise nights and technical sessions. 3 PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Be sure to review the full calendar of events in the upcoming months. MOCSEM will be gathering at numerous spots such as the Telegraph, Downriver, and Woodward Cruises as well as club cruise-in nights every other week. Please check out the articles in this issue regarding MOCSEM involvement in the Warren Road Church Car Show and the new plans for club parking at the Woodward Dream Cruise. There are also new events like the Blue Oval/Bowtie Poker Run with the Corvette Club. Many of the survey responses early in the year stated that members wanted to do more events with our cars, so the board and the social director in particular have worked to make this happen. There is no excuse not to get your car out, dust it off, blow out the carbon, and come to some of these fun events. Regarding Mustang Memories, show workers are still needed for both Gate and Parking. Contact Phil Smith for details. Please consider early registration for your car in the show. We had a large number of early registrations last year and the benefits are numerous: - You save $5! - The club gets show income earlier to help pay the upfront show costs - The early registration cards are filled out before the show so you get through registration faster - You guarantee yourself a nice door prize Be sure to hand out the show fliers to people you know (or don t know) outside the club with Mustangs or other Ford-powered vehicles. You can also hand out fliers at local cruise nights or other car shows. We currently have ads in Hemmings Motor News, Cruise News, and other publications, but word-of-mouth is still the best advertising. A little effort goes a long way. Well, by the time you read this I will have completed the second of four 1-week chemo cycles and I will be in another recovery period. My three week breaks between treatments go by so fast! At least my hair isn t still falling out. My schedule so far allows me to entertain at club meetings and my early retirement period gives me time to help with the upcoming Mustang Memories show. I also find time to do some therapeutic work on my cars (don t tell my doctor!). My treatments are going well and Kathy and I appreciate all the prayers and well wishes. MOCSEM is our extended family and your support is priceless. Neil Holcomb, MOCSEM President REMINDER: WARREN ROAD CHURCH CAR SHOW ON JULY 2 nd If you plan on being in town for the holiday weekend, take a couple hours and attend the car show at the Warren Road Free Methodist Church of Light and Life on July 2 nd. The church is located at Warren and Farmington Roads in Westland. MOCSEM is assisting the church and Mobile Trim Shop in planning and promoting the show this year. For a $5 per car registration fee, all participants will receive complimentary coffee, donuts, and a nice potluck-style lunch with grilled chicken and hot dogs. Club members are encouraged to bring dessert items for the luncheon. The church members are very gracious hosts and the show does not last all day. This is a really nice show and where else can you feed yourself and your passengers for only five dollars???? Schedule: 8:00-10:00 Registration 10:30 Worship Service (optional) 12:00 Lunch 2:00 Trophy Presentation (Church Committee Choice) During the February membership meeting a question asked to see how many members would like to take a cruise to Milan Dragway to watch the Ford Motorsports Enthusiasts. There was an excellent response. I put the FME night on Thursday, July 20th. This article outlines where we will meet, the time and our possible cruise to the track. We will join up at the Home Depot parking lot on Canton Center Road and Michigan Ave. (NW Corner) at about 5:00 pm and leave at 5:15pm sharp, time trials & racing go from 6 pm to 9 pm. The route will be Michigan Ave (West) to I-94 (West), than exit back to Michigan Ave. (West), than on to US-23 (South) to Plank Road (East) to the track. I looked for a back way but some of the roads are still gravel. This would be the best route. Cost is $2.00 per person. Time trials cost $35 for FME members and $45 non-members. There will be a sign up sheet at the July meetings. If you don t want to drive your Mustang, you can use the sign up sheet to see whose going and form your car pooling. More at the meeting in June. No BBQ or club donation this time; bathroom available; dash plaques ordered. June 19 is Pizzalato s Cruise; August and September dates have changed to Don s of Traverse City on Grand River in Novi. July 2 is the Warren Road Church Show. Contact Joe Bugeia (313) (Sept 06) NEW PLANS FOR MOCSEM AT WOODWARD THIS YEAR As many of you are aware from discussions at the club meeting, MOCSEM will no longer have our traditional Woodward Dream Cruise location at Whitbeck s Appliance in Ferndale. Whitbeck s has moved to a new location and the property on Woodward is up for sale. The location has served the club well for many years and we are thankful to Whitbeck s for the past use. New for this year, MOCSEM has made arrangements to park as a group at Mustang Alley which is located on 9 Mile just west of Woodward in downtown Ferndale. Mustang Alley typically attracts between 350 and 400 Mustangs and is a natural place for us to be. There are numerous Ford-sponsored activities during the day with raffles, memorabilia for sale, and food vendors. Cruisers will be able to come and go from Mustang Alley during the day by showing a registration card that is given out during initial check-in. In order to park at Mustang Alley, it is necessary to pre-register online by computer only. The website for registration is: There is a link that connects you to the registration page. Make sure you enter MOCSEM in the box for Club Name. The cost for Mustang Alley is $10 when you show up to enter, which is very cheap compared to parking anywhere else on Woodward.
