1 PRE-SWEEP / DUST CONTROL KIT For Advance Hydro-Retriever 3800 / Nilfisk BR 1000 CONTENTS OF KIT ITEM PART NO. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS WARNING! DISCONNECT BATTERIES BEFORE SERVICING. 1 See Figure 1. Install cord assembly A on the machine in the location shown next to the front left roller bumper with the (2) B screws and (2) C nuts from the kit (holes predrilled). 2 Located almost straight back from where you just mounted the chrome connector is a (3) wire male connector which has a violet wire, a blue/brown wire and a black wire connected to it (just above and behind the wheel drive motor). 3 Remove the weatherpack protective plug from this connector and plug the connector from cord A into it (make sure the cord is routed and secured away from the wheel drive motor and all moving parts). 4 Remove both front roller bumpers. 5 Slide the pre-sweep assembly up to the front of the machine. Plug the chrome wiring connector from the presweep assembly into the chrome connector you previously installed on the front bumper. Remove the weatherpack protective plug from the Dust Control Plug on the front of the machine (See Figure 1, located under the front bumper just to the left of the chrome connector you previously installed on the front bumper). Plug the vacuum motor wiring connector from the pre-sweep into this plug. (page 1) 10/96 revised 11/98 Form No

Lift the pre-sweep assembly up into place where the roller bumpers used to mount, and install the (2) D pins in the holes where the roller bumper pins used to be. 7 Lift up on the front of the pre-sweep assembly until it is firmly up against the front of the machine and then tighten the (4) E bolts. 8 Before testing the pre-sweep, check the height of the front skirt (the skirt on the hopper), it should be level to the floor and just lightly touching the floor. If it drags the floor too much it will be pulled into the broom. Adjust if necessary. 9 To test the pre-sweep, turn the key switch ON and lower the pre-sweep with the foot pedal on the right side of the unit (the main broom, side broom and vac motor should turn on). 3 E FIGURE 2 Foot pedal activates presweep when lowered. D 10 After testing for proper operation, check the side and main brooms for proper adjustment. To adjust the main broom: 11 Park the machine on a level floor and set the parking brake. 12 Turn the key switch ON and lower the pre-sweep with the foot pedal. Let the main broom run for about 1 minute. This allows the broom to polish a strip on the floor. 13 After 1 minute, release the parking brake and move the machine so that the polished strip is visible. The strip should be 2 inches (5.14 cm) wide its entire length. Note: Adjusting the broom for a pattern wider than specified decreases sweeping performance and increases broom wear. 4 14 If the polished strip is tapered toward either end, loosen nut E (see figure 3) and raise or lower the left end of the broom to compensate and retighten nut E. FIGURE 3 E Left side of Presweep Assembly. 15 Re-test the broom to make sure the polished strip is an even width its entire length (repeat step 13 if necessary and re-test after each adjustment). 16 If the polished strip is too wide or too narrow, the broom height can be adjusted by turning bolt F (see figure 4) clockwise to widen or counter clockwise to narrow the width of the strip (open hopper door for access to bolt F and loosen lock nuts first). 5 17 Re-test the broom to make sure the polished strip is 2 inches (5.14 cm) wide its entire length. After the broom is properly adjusted, retighten the lock nuts on bolt F. To adjust the side broom: 18 Park the machine on a level floor and set the parking brake. 19 Turn the key switch ON and lower the pre-sweep with the foot pedal. 20 See Figure 5. Observe the side broom while it is running. The bristles from the 11 o clock position to the 3 o clock position (about 1/3 of the bristles / as viewed from the operator s seat) should be touching the floor. 6 21 If the side broom requires adjustment, loosen the lock nuts and turn bolt G (see figure 6) clockwise to lower and counter clockwise to raise the side broom. 22 Re-test after each adjustment.
