Roller Shutter Doors Descriptions Push Up Doors This type is suitable for relatively small openings whereby a mechanical or electrical mechanism is not necessary to operate the roller shutter door.

5 Roller Shutter Doors Descriptions Push Up Doors This type is suitable for relatively small openings whereby a mechanical or electrical mechanism is not necessary to operate the roller shutter door. Lifting handles are fitted to the T-Bar to open and close these doors. Helical coiled springs counterbalance the mass of the door curtain. Push-up doors are suitable for openings not exceeding 2 750mm in height and 3 000mm in width. Chain operated Doors Doors of up to 25 square meters are operated by an endless chain, chain wheel and spur gear fitted to the helical coil spring barrel. This is the most common and cost effective operation Reduction Chain operated Doors Doors of increased width and size are advised to use a reduction chain operation. This is accomplished by a intermediate gear installed between the chain wheel and spur gear rotating on a shaft and bearing, increasing the gear ratio. This system can be installed onto existing chain operated doors with minimum effort. Gearbox operated Doors By means of preference, a gearbox can be fitted Cast iron crown wheel and manufactured double bearing pinion gears are commonly used, however, in the event of doors exceeding the 24 square meters range. A emergency chain can be supplied, but costs are extremely high Wicket gates / pedestrian Doors Roller shutter doors can be fitted with wicket doors for personnel or emergency use 1. The fitting of wicket doors to push-up type roller shutter doors is not recommended. 2. Two standard sizes of wicket doors are available A) 685 mm wide x 1 980mm high and B) 685 mm wide x 1 200mm high 3. Can be specified as inward or outward opening as well as left-hand or right handed. 4. Wickets should be positioned on the opposite side to the operating system of door 5. Installing a wicket gate to a automated door is not recommended, but can be done with a external limit switch Slat design Your most common and cost effective slat profile is a solid slat, This profile can be ordered in 0.6mm / 0.8mm/1.0mm. Slat come standard in galvanized finish OR can be powder coated in a variety of colours Perforated slats Perforated slats are manufactured from galvanized material The small punched holes are 3.2mm in diameter at a 5.5 degree pitch which allows visibility and minimal ventilation through the curtain Fenestral slats Fenestral slats are manufactured from galvanized material. The design actually was designed to replace the older grille designs Holes measure 150mm x 32mm at 50mm intervals The size of the holes are suitable for high visibility and ventilation purposes A straight punch pattern or brick pattern is available Aluminum slats Aluminum slats are light and rust resistant They are mainly used for domestic applications in homes. It is one of the more costly options Aluminum comes in standard mill finish or can be powder coated in various colours. Aluminum slats come in two designs A. Solid standard slat B. Aluminum Fenestral The added benefit is that a poly carbonate insert can be slid in to close off the punched hole and still allow viewing through the window section. 4

6 Roller Shutter Doors Maintenance Full Preventative Maintenance Service Details We take pleasure in providing you with the details of a full preventative Maintenance Service regarding Industrial Roller Shutter and Vertical Doors. INSTALlATION. The tension of all roll bolt's that secure the anchor plates of the barrel and the guides are checked as well as welding joints where applicable. Where necessary, welding is reinforced bolts tightened or lugs remounted and secured. Where brickwork or mortar is brittle, 'through bolts' or rectangular tubing will be used to ensure stability and safety of the door. GRILLE / SLATS. The entire curtain is checked for broken or loose links or any part that may be catching in the guide or guidemouth. Damaged or bent slats cause resistance and strain on the springs, gearbox or chain mechanism and undue strain on the whole system, which unchecked, leads to quicker breakdown and replacement of expensive parts due to unnecessary wear and tear. Discovered damages will be reported. Such additional replacement costs will be quoted for separately. SECTIONAL PANELS. All tracks, hinges, moving parts, panels and rollers are checked, tightened, repaired or replaced. Repairs or replacements discovered during servicing of the door which are not included in the original price, will be reported and will be quoted for separately. MECHANICAL GEARBOX. Play on the driveshaft of the gearbox will indicate wear and tear on the crown wheel & pinion. Unless sealed, the box will be opened & physically inspected and greased where necessary. Excessive play may require replacement of the gearbox. Excessive play is usually caused when the gears are worn out and may break off at any stage causing risk whereby a door with poor tension could drop down when in an open position. Ensure that the stub-shaft and crown wheel are well keyed and secure and that the pinion is secure. Check for damaged gears on both the crown wheel and pinion. Prop shaft connections to either end (gearbox and barrel) are important. Undue play of holding bolts is corrected and serviceability of the prop shaft is determined. Damaged handles are to be replaced (if possible) where repair work cannot be done. CHAIN WHEEL MECHANISM. Ensure that both the chain wheel and spur gear are secure and that gears interlock well. If any visible damage exists, the condition will be reported and replacement will be quoted for separately. Such damage could pose a safety risk. Grease if necessary. Check that both chain guards are in place and chain has free movement. Make sure the chain is the appropriate size for the chain wheel and that the chain lock (on the guide) is functional. Ensure that the stub-shaft and spur gear are well keyed and secure. PROPSHAFT or BARREL. Hanger slats need to be secured to the barrel and insure that the curtain opens and closes horizontally (not at an angle). Visible checks must be made to ensure that the barrel is straight (Especially open barrels). Side plates and bearing cups must be secure and free movement of bearings possible. The cover box must be free of inward dents and secured in place. Any door that opens and closes with difficulty, usually indicate tension springs that are unserviceable and must be reconditioned. TENSION. This is probably the most important part of the service. Sometimes the motor or gear mechanism will be disconnected from the barrel to determine if the tension is excessive, too weak or correct. Where necessary, adjustments are made. Fortunately there is a fair amount of tolerance and normal loss of tension is gradual except in the event of misuse. When the springs have lost their tension or a spring has broken, a recondition of the barrel will be necessary. LUBRICATION. With time, dust, sand and dirt comes into contact with the grease in the guides and gradually the grease becomes more of a retardant paste and rubbing compound and less of a lubricant. This causes unnecessary tension, wear and tear. De-greasing is therefore often necessary before new grease can be applied. Regular lubrication is therefore important and preventative where applicable. In certain cases lubrication is not advisable due to the nature of the location (excessive sand, dust, sawdust etc.) 5

7 Roller Shutter Doors Maintenance ELECTRICAL. Here we look for loose connections on the wiring and alarm systems, the yellow warning lights and safety photo beams, that the limit switches have not been tampered with and that settings are correct. It is important to ensure that the maximum permissible wear and tear on the chain and sprocket wheel has not been reached and that the motor mountings are secure. Any work done to the motor (other than already stated) due to physical damage, or poor function or the removal for routine inspections and/or services to the motor or any of its electronics or accessories, is not included in the service costs. Any damage deemed by the suppliers not to be covered by the warranty, is also excluded. Any such costs are for the clients account. The correct tension setting of the door is imperative for the longevity of any motor, provided the correct size motor is installed. er door, per service excluding VAT. GENERAL. Vehicles, machinery or equipment often dent the guides. Any bumps against the curtain or T-bar, however slight they may be, as well as foreign objects that are placed in the door or pushed into its mechanism, creates unnecessary strain on the functionality of the door, and if left unchecked for any lengthy period of time, can and may create permanent damage. A damaged guide will be panel beated where possible, before replacement is considered. Minor repairs done on site that do not require removal to the workshop or replacement, are included in the service unless otherwise quoted. The warranty period of new or reconditioned doors, includes any damage due to latent defects present in the material during manufacture. Repairs to damage of newly installed doors caused by vandalism or accident will be quoted for separately and for the clients account. PAYMENT. All our work is done on a cash basis unless other arrangements have been made. A minimum of 70% deposit of the full amount is required and the balance to be paid on completion. SERVICE INTERVALS. These are determined during consultation where frequency of use, and the importance of the door, will be the two main deciding factors. Service intervals could therefore vary from weekly to annually. COSTS. Service costs are relative to door sizes, quantity and location (degree of difficulty to execute a decent service). Roller Shutters should be serviced every 3-12 months depending on use to ensure a long life. Service & maintenance packages Available 6
