1 City of Watertown Agenda Item: Watertown City Council February 23 rd, 206 Capital Equipment Replacement Chevy Ton Dump Truck Request for Action Request for Action: Adopt Resolution #206-4, Authorizing Acquisition of Ton 4x4 Dump Truck and Appurtenant Equipment Department: Shane Fineran, City Administrator Background: The 206 Capital Investment Plan identified the replacement of one 997 Chevrolet ton dump truck. This truck is an important and heavily utilized vehicle in the winter months in snow removal operations and can be deployed for plowing, alley salting, and pre-treatment applications. It the warmer months it is a flexible vehicle hauling and trailering capacities. The anticipated replacement cost was budgeted at $65,000. In using the proposed Capitol Equipment Scoring matrix this piece of equipment scores 46 points, in Need of Immediate Consideration. The vehicle has rusted through floor boards on the driver side, creating a safety and health hazard for those operating it. In addition it has had to be removed from plowing operations due to a cracked frame. The vehicle is also unreliable mechanically with fuel transfer issues, non-operational 4x4 capacity, and a rusted through dump box. Staff has solicited a quote from Nelson Auto Center which is a listed vendor for this type of truck chassis on the Minnesota State Bid program. Truck chassis features: 206 GMC 3500HD 4x4 Regular Cab, blue in color, 6.6L diesel engine, tow mirrors, snow plow prep, trailer brake controller, underbody shield, and emergency light ready. Purchase price of $34,296.9 plus TTL Staff has also solicited quotes for purchase and installation of stainless steel dump body, tool box, sander/spreader, and emergency lights.
