1 Hi-Performance Series Fan Coil Technical Catalog HYB Horizontal Hideaway Furred-in with galvanized finish for ducted/high static applications in drop-ceilings or over-closets. ( CFM) HGC Horizontal Cased Cabinet with galvanized finish for a high static above or below ceiling applications where higher capacities are needed. ( CFM) PHY Horizontal Hideaway with Plenum Same galvanized finish as HYB with an added insulated plenum for ceilingmounted applications. Provides the capability for an added filter or ducted return. ( CFM) HLC Horizontal Cabinet Exposed painted cabinet for under ceiling applications where increased capacities are required. Front doubledeflection supply and a rear bar type return grille with filter. ( CFM) Hi-Performance Series Fan Coils Nominal CFM xpediair (PA) offers a variety of Hi- Performance ducted ceiling or floor models to meet your Fan Coil application needs for installation in motels, apartments, hospitals, offices, and other multi-room buildings. Select from five models for furred-in, recessed, or exposed cabinet applications. Coils are available with 1, 2, 3, 4, or 6 row combinations depending on the model and applications. Controls are available for numerous system types: 2-pipe heating and cooling, 2-pipe with auxiliary electric heat, 2-pipe with total electric heat, or 4-pipe heating/cooling applications. Basic cabinets are fabricated from heavy gauge, galvanized steel. Exposed cabinet model (HLC) is painted with a powder-coat finish (arctic white). VDC Vertical Cased Floor mounted with galvanized finish for vertical, ducted applications in closets, utility rooms, or other concealed locations. Top discharge collar, front access panel and either a front or bottom return. (600 CFM to 2000 CFM) This catalog provides limited unit selection information. 8 Electric Resistance Heating Electric heaters are available on PA Hi-Performance Series fan coil units for the following applications. Total Electric Heat Total electric heat eliminates the requirement for a boiler. Heating and/or cooling may be available on an individual basis throughout the year. Two-pipe chilled water is used for cooling, and the electric heater is used for heating. Individual room controls can be supplied for either manual or automatic changeover. Auxiliary Electric Heat Auxiliary electric heat is ideal for tempering room air between seasons and during the cooling season when chilled water is being circulated. Individual room controls are supplied to provide electric heat only when chilled water is being circulated. During regular heating season, heating is provided by hot water being circulated in the system. Construction The heater coils of high-grade resistance wire are supported by ceramic insulators on plated steel brackets. These heat elements are suspended directly in front of the fan outlet. High limit thermal cutouts protect the heater in the event of air failure. There are many special applications and control sequences for electric heat. 9 Motor Data Thermal Overload Protection and ETL Listing All permanently lubricated split-capacitor motors furnished by PA contain internal thermal-overload protection. The overload automatically resets when the temperature returns to a safe limit. Electronics Testing Laboratories, Inc. approves the motor and thermal overload combination at locked rotor conditions only. 19 Piping Packages (Typical) Two-way Motorized Control Valve In a two-way motorized control valve package, the motor drives the valve open, and a spring returns the valve to a normally closed position. No water flows with the unit off. The standard supply connection from the coil will accept a swaged copper fitting for field brazing. As an option, this connection may be factory furnished with a union. When a swage is necessary, it becomes part of the valve package. The isolation, or ball, valve in the return piping is shipped loose for field installation. Three-way Motorized Control Valve In a three-way motorized control valve package, a diverting valve controls water flow to the coil. When the unit is off, water bypasses the coil and flows directly to the system return. A balancing valve may be specified in the bypass line to permit equal flow balancing. No water flows through the coil with the unit off. The aquastat bypass line allows a small amount of water to flow from the supply to the return piping when the control valve is closed. The strapon aquastat senses whether the flowing water is being chilled or heated and switches a contact closed to provide automatic summer/winter changeover (ACO) for the system. When a two-pipe cooling/heating system with optional auxiliary electric heat is desired, an additional aquastat is required. 1. Please note that project specifications for system pressure, pressure drop limitations and flow rate should be checked prior to selecting specific components or the valve package size. 2. The supply and return piping connections of the factory-provided valve package are either swaged for field brazing (standard) or union fitted (optional) for field connection to the coil. 3. Consult PA or your local PA representative for detailed piping and valve application information. Factory-provided valve packages are assembled, brazed, wired electrically and dry-fit to the coil connections before shipping. Field brazing to the coil completes the installation. Some applications dictate shipping isolation valves loose. Galvanized drain pans shall be internally coated with a 2-part closed cell foam insulation. 1.2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION Horizontal and Vertical Hi-Performance Fan Coil Units, 2-pipe, 4-pipe, or 2-pipe with electric heat, concealed or exposed cabinets that are horizontally or vertically mounted. 1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE Coils shall be manufactured in accordance with AHRI Standard Each coil shall be factory tested for leakage at 300 psig air pressure with coil submerged in water. Insulation and adhesive shall meet NFPA-90A requirements for flame spread and smoke generation. Base or standard units shall be ETL listed. 1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING Unit shall be handled and stored in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURER A. Basis of design shall be fan coils by PA. 2.2 CONFIGURATION A. General: Factory assembled Hi-Performance horizontal and vertical fan coil units complete with water coil, fan, motor, drain pan, and all required wiring, piping p and controls. C. PHY Horizontal Hideaway with Plenum Units: 1. Units shall be constructed of heavy gauge galvanized steel. 2. The interior surfaces shall be lined with 1/2" fiberglass (1/2" premium fiberglass, 1/2" foil face, or 1/4" closed cell) insulation. 3. A heavy gauge plenum shall enclose the blower/motor assembly with bottom or rear return air path. 4. Units shall be supplied with a ducted collar for supply duct connection. 5. Safety: Units shall be listed by Electronics Testing Laboratories, Inc. with the listing indicating the units comply with the minimum requirements of the U.S. and Canadian national product safety standard, UL 1995/CSA C22.2 No B. Capacities: Coil capacities are tested in accordance with AHRI MATERIALS A. Coils: All coils shall have 1/2" copper tubes, manual (or automatic air vents), and aluminum fins, 10 fins per inch spacing. Coil fins shall be mechanically bonded to copper tubes. Copper tubes must comply with ASTM B-75. Fin thickness shall be " and tube thickness shall be 0.016". All coils shall be leak tested with air at 300 psig under water. 1. For installation in a 2-pipe system, unit shall be equipped with: a. 4-row coil (3-row or 6-row) as shown on equipment drawings 2. For installation in a 4-pipe system, unit shall be equipped with: a. 3/1, 3/2, 4/1, 4/2, 6/1, or 6/2 row-split coil, as shown on equipment drawings B. Fans: 1. Fans shall be direct-drive, double-width fan wheels with forward-curved blades. 2. Blower wheels shall be statically and dynamically balanced. 3. Motors: 1. Motors shall be 3-speed, single phase, 60 Hz permanent split capacitor type for 115 V (208 V, 230 V, or 277 V), permanently lubricated, with sleeve bearings. 2. Motors shall be equipped with quick connect electrical plugs. 3. Motors shall have thermal overload protection with automatic reset. E. Controls and Safeties: 1. Controls: Unit shall be furnished with a 3-speed, 4-position fan switch on a wall plate for field installation. 2. Safeties: Unit fan motor shall be equipped with integral motor protection. F. Operating Characteristics: 1. A 2-pipe system shall be capable of providing heating or cooling as determined by the operating mode of the central water supply system. 2. A 4-pipe system shall be capable of providing heating ad cooling on demand. G. Electrical Requirements: 1. Standard unit shall operate on 115 V (208 V, 230 V or 277 V), single phase, 60 Hz electrical power, and all exposed wiring shall be in flexible conduit. H. Option and Accessories: 1. Unit shall be equipped with nichrome wire strip electric heaters for total or auxiliary electric heat as specified on the equipment schedule. a. Heaters shall be protected by an automatic reset safety cutout switch and a fusible link. b. Heater capacity shall be as specified on the equipment schedule. c. Heaters shall be single phase, 120 V (208 V, 240 V or 277 V) as specified on the equipment schedule. d. For total electric heat, unit controls shall include a sequenced heating and cooling thermostat in lieu of the heating/cooling thermostat and automatic changeover device. e. For auxiliary electric heat, unit controls shall include thermistor and purge cycle to verify system mode. f. A junction box and fuse shall be factory furnished and installed to protect the motor and control circuit when electric heaters are installed in a unit with a single power source. 2.
