42 Pressure Relief Valves Selection Process While valves are designed to reseat after discharge, it is advisable that they are replaced, sce system impurities such as pipg debris, solder, and metal shavgs can accumulate under the valve disc and hibit the proper resealg of the valve. Selection of a relief valve should be based on the discharge capacity required for the system or vessel, based on the size of the equipment and the refrigerant beg used. Mimum settgs for valves should be at least 25% above the designed Maximum Operatg Pressure, while additional consideration must be given f the valve location may experience high ambient temperatures such as an equipment room or rooftop. Sizg valves to the maximum allowable settg will mimize the possibility of seepage or early discharge.
