5 OCTANE POWER TO BURN Named for the number of turns along the 20 km public road that forms the Pikes Peak Hill Climb racecourse, Project 156 is powered by a race-prepared version of the liquid-cooled V-Twin that motivates the new Victory Octane production motorcycle. Go ahead and light up that rear tire. Octane makes it easy by following the classic American musclecar formula: a powerful motor in a lightweight chassis. What s left is just what you need to go very fast and nothing else. Take away the bored-out cylinders and prototype billet heads, and the Project 156 powerplant is remarkably similar to the stock Octane engine. The crankcases and bottom end are identical, for example, and the transmission is shared, too. Race-proven technology meets real-world performance. 7 322 KPH OR BUST HAMMER S PRO STREET PERFORMANCE Land-speed racers have been chasing records on the Bonneville Salt Flats for more than a century. Now, two of Victory s key performance partners, Klock Werks Kustom Cycles and Lloydz Motoworkz, are attempting to build the first Victory to go 322 kph. The team s supercharged, Freedom 106-powered land-speed racer has Drop the hammer on the competition with the Hammer S, the most aggressive cruiser in Victory s lineup. Equipped with sportbike-type suspension, pro stock-inspired rear rubber, and sleek bodywork wrapped in musclecar racing stripes, the Hammer S is an all- American streetfighter. already gone as fast as kph in a naked configuration. They re hoping a newly designed full fairing will improve high-speed aerodynamics enough to allow them to break the 322 kph mark this year. 14 VICTORY COMPONENT FAQ A CLOSER LOOK AT SOME OF THE TECHNOLOGY THAT MAKES VICTORY MOTORCYCLES PERFORM BETTER. FOUR-VALVE HEADS OVERHEAD CAMS OCTANE LIQUID COOLING INVERTED FORKS ALUMINUM FRAMES DUAL DISC BRAKES Every engine needs at least two valves: one intake and one exhaust. Generally speaking, more valves mean more valve area, which improves intake and exhaust flow for better combustion, increased efficiency, and higher power output. Nearly every highperformance engine, including every Victory engine, uses four-valve heads. Overhead cams are located above the cylinder head and drive the valves more directly than pushrod-type engines, reducing reciprocating mass to allow higher engine speeds and increased power output. Nearly every modern performance engine, including every Victory engine, uses overhead cams. Octane, in fact, uses dual overhead cams. Liquid-cooled engines circulate coolant through the engine block to keep the engine operating at optimum temperature, regardless of load, for optimum performance and efficiency across an even wider range of operating conditions. Octane, the most powerful motorcycle in Victory s lineup, uses a liquid-cooled V-twin engine. Inverted forks locate the larger-diameter fork tube at the top, where it connects to the triple clamp, increasing front-end rigidity for more predictable handling, especially under heavy braking or cornering loads. Every MotoGP racebike uses an inverted fork so does every Victory bagger and touring bike, and the Hammer S, too. Modern aluminum casting technology allows frame engineers to put material just where it s needed for strength and trim away material where it s not, so aluminum frames are both more rigid and lighterweight than steel equivalents. Nearly every sportbike uses a cast aluminum frame, and so does every Victory bagger and touring model, as well as the Octane. Two brakes are always better than one when you want to slow a big, fast motorcycle from very high speed. That s why every Victory bagger and touring bike is equipped with dual disc front brakes.
