1 2018 New Zealand Superbike Championship Support Class Supplementary Regulations Formula One (All Four Rounds) Supersport 150 (Round One only) Carl Cox Motorsport Hyosung Cup (Round Three & Round Four) FORMULA ONE: The Formula One support class has been included to allow 2017 and earlier specification Superbikes to compete at the 2018 NZ Superbike Championship now that last year s Superstock 1000 specification has been adopted as the 2018 Superbike specification. Formula One machines must comply with the following regulations (as per MoMS pre August 2017). The appearance from front, rear and the profile of Formula One motorcycles must (except when otherwise stated) conform to the original shape (as originally produced by the manufacturer). All parts and functions must remain as per OEM specifications unless stated otherwise! 1 Capacity: 700cc - Open 4-stroke 3 & 4 Cylinder 800cc - Open 4-stroke Twin Cylinder 2 Numbers, Board Colours, size and placement: Refer to rule 10.2a 2.1 Fuel: Refer to rule Subject to the required and permitted alterations set out below, Formula One machines must: a) Be fitted with the V.I.N compliance plates for the particular machine; b) Be of a make and model lawfully sold in New Zealand, c) Be as constructed by the manufacturer, d) At least 5 production machines of that make and model must have been imported into New Zealand by the manufacturer or the New Zealand distributor representing that manufacturer 3.2 The choice of tyre is optional but any restriction on the number of tyres which may be used must be included in Supplementary Regulations. Tyre warmers may be used 3.3 To be permitted to compete, a machine, without rider, empty of fuel, but with all other fluids at optimum levels, must weigh no less than 165kg. 3.4 The following must be removed: a) Headlamp b) Tail lamp c) Reflectors d) Horns e) Traffic indicators f) Mirrors g) Centre and side stands h) Registration plate / bracket and label holder 3.5 Any sharp edges left by the removal of the above components must be protected by a rolled edge or beading of minimum 3mm diameter.
2 3.6 Engine and gearbox breathing hoses and tubes must exhaust into the air box to the rear of the intakes. The lower air box breather tube must be blocked. 3.7 The following may be removed: a) Passenger handholds and footrest assemblies, b) Instruments and associated cables, c) Chain guard, d) Air injection pollution control system, e) Carburettor anti-icing device, f) Rear fender, g) Air filter element, h) Starter Motor and starter motor drive system, i) Alternator, j) Cooling fans k) L/H Switch block l) Upper Chain Guard 3.8 The following may be added: a) Steering damper b) Ride height adjuster. The link arm rod may be changed or modified; the suspension linkage may be modified or replaced. c) Data acquisition, computers, recording equipment (Note: Telemetry devices are prohibited), provided no interface exists between logging equipment and management of engine systems with the exception of traction control systems. d) Fuel injection control devices e) Quick shifter. f) Lap timer g) Frame protective sliders, and engine case covers or protectors, h) Swingarm mounted sprocket guard where the device does not act as a tensioning device i) Engine cut lanyard attached to the rider that will cut either the ignition or fuel supply to the engine. 3.9 The following may be replaced with parts not manufactured by the manufacturer of the machine: a) Brake pads, linings and brake hoses. Brake disc s, provided they are made of similar material to the OEM part and are of the same diameter, i.e NO carbon, titanium, plasma coated aluminium or cast iron b) Fairings and stream lining including screen, rear body work and seat section, mudguards, tank covers, air box intake tubes and side covers, providing the replacements are of the same shape and appearance as the original, Carbon fibre is expressly prohibited. Engine case protection covers and small amounts around the fairing mounting points exempted (Screen profile to be open) c) Mounting brackets for fairings and screens but the replacements must be mounted on the frame at the original mounting points d) Fuel tank filler cap assembly providing there is no modification required to fuel tank e) Handlebars, handlebar mounted levers, master cylinders and controls. The rear brake master cylinder reservoir must hold a minimum of 20ml of brake fluid. f) Footrests and foot controls, but the replacements must be mounted on the frame at the original mounting points g) Fasteners for fitting external components where the motorcycle manufacturer has no specified torque setting or it is less than 10Nm h) Air filter element i) Air funnels (velocity stacks) j) Instruments k) Wiring loom, ECU and fuel injection control units are open l) Spark plugs and high tension leads m) Battery and alternator n) Exhaust system o) Clutch plates and springs p) External gearing q) Radiator expansion tank r) Valve retainers and valve springs s) Camshafts and cam wheels t) Head gaskets u) Front suspension springs and damping parts including, fork caps, external compression and preload adjusters may be modified or replaced, but the external appearance of the forks must not be changed, triple clamps must remain OEM v) Rear suspension damping units and springs, rear linkages may be replaced with aftermarket items w) The radiator, provided there are no changes to the bodywork x) Pistons y) Swing arm pivot inserts z) Steering damper 3.10 The following OEM parts may be modified: a) Engine cam wheels may be slotted or replaced to alter valve timing b) Water pump impeller c) Gearbox drive dogs may be undercut d) Cylinder head valve seats may be recut e) Cylinder head ports by removal of material only f) Cylinder head and cylinder block mating surfaces may be machined g) Alternator cover h) Swing arm pivot insert (frame must remain unmodified OEM part)
3 i) Crankshaft may be balanced j) Con-rods / pistons may be balanced 3.11 A chain guard or shark fin made of suitable material must be fitted in such a way to prevent trapping between the lower chain run and the final drive sprocket at the rear wheel. Machines where the swing arm shape or positioning prevents fitment are exempted. (for example Yamaha R1) 3.12 All exposed lateral engine cases containing water or oil must be guarded from contact with the road surface in the event of a crash. The guard may be a second cover made from suitable materials such as carbon / Kevlar or suitable plastic or with heavy duty end cases or crash bars made from aluminium, steel or nylon. For those machines that do not have commercially available cover (for example Kawasaki Ninja 250cc) a frame mounted crash knob or similar effective protector can be fitted as an alternative. All of these devices must be designed to be resistant against sudden shocks abrasions and crash damage All machines must be fitted with an integral lower fairing dam (Belly Pan) or separate catch tray which must be constructed and fitted to trap and hold engine oil and coolant with a capacity of not less than, four strokes =3.5 litres or two strokes =2.5 litres. SUPERSPORT 150: Supersport 150 Class is open to any Miniature Road Race bikes (as per MNZ MOMS Chapter 16), 250 Production (as per MNZ MOMS Appendix H), and up to 150cc 2 stroke single cylinder, or up to 250cc 4 stroke single or twin cylinder street type road registerable mass production machines of any make sold or on sale in New Zealand. The minimum age limit for Supersport 150 class racing shall be 13 years. Supersport 150 class shall be a restricted class of road racing, under the following conditions: 1. The maximum 2 stroke engine capacity size is 150cc; cylinder boring to maximum over size of 0.50mm is allowed. The maximum 4 stroke engine capacity size is 250cc up to 2 cylinders maximum over size of 0.50mm is allowed. 2. The motorcycles are not to be 125GP bikes or use engines from 125 or other GP bikes. 3. Where the rider does not have a current driving licence, that rider shall receive motorcycle riding lessons and a minimum on one full days coaching of road racing with an approved coach prior to racing. 4. All competitors are to wear a high visibility vest over their leathers for the first 10 events at which they compete. Proof of these events will be from entries in their log book and/or copies of day licences. 5. As soon as a 250 Production eligible bike is consistently recording laptimes within 115% of the 250 Production class leaders qualifying times they will be encouraged to advance up to 250 Production. Preparation of Motorcycle All items not mentioned in the following must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer. All motorcycles are to be prepared in accordance with Chapter 10 of the MNZ Rules. In instances of wear and tear, damage, or failure, parts may be replaced with aftermarket equivalents if the genuine parts are no longer available. Fuel refer to rule At all Road Race meetings one fire extinguisher (1 kg Minimum, as per MOMS Rule 6.17) must be visibly present in each rider s pit area. All motorcycles must display the manufacturer s vehicle identification number on the frame. Additional seat brackets may be added but none may be removed. Bolt on accessories to the sub frame may be removed. Modifications Allowed 1. Footrests/foot controls or aftermarket rearsets must bolt on the frame in the original position. 2. Solid footrests are allowed 3. Handle bars height and angle of bars must remain standard 4. Hand controls, clutch and brake levers 5. Brake lines and brake pads 6. Spark plugs 7. The speedo drive may be removed and replaced with a spacer 8. Fairing, front guard, windscreen and bodywork must retain the original shape as produced by the manufacturer, but these parts can be replaced with a cosmetic copy. 9. Carbon fibre is restricted to the reinforcing parts only; carbon fibre cannot be used elsewhere. Small plastic cones/knobs may be added to the machine to minimize accident damage 10. Seat and seat base and associate bodywork may be replaced with parts of similar appearance as the original shape; the top portion of the seat may be modified to create a solo seat 11. Fuel lines may be replaced quick connectors or dry break quick connectors may be used. Fuel line vents may be replaced fuel filter may be fitted 12. Base and head gasket with standard parts, must retain original thickness
4 13. Carburetor jetting/fuel injection tuning 14. External gearing and chains. 15. Suspension springs and oil may be changed 16. Fasteners may be drilled for safety wire only. Fairing fasteners may be changed for quick disconnect type 17. Titanium/aluminium fasteners may not be used 18. All 250cc 4 strokes must retain standard headers, aftermarket mufflers are allowed. 2 strokes can have commercially manufactured aftermarket expansion chambers and mufflers fitted. 19. Rims may be changed but must be production bike rims. No aftermarket or GP rims allowed 20. Motorcycle must be equipped with a functional kill switch or button mounted on the handlebars that can stop a running engine 21. Where breather or overflow pipes are fitted they must discharge via existing outlets into a catch tank. The original closed system must be retained, no direct atmospheric emission is permitted 22. Throttle controls must be self-closing when not held by the hand 23. The Steward along with the Technical Inspector reserves the right to make the final decision on the legality of any modifications made and apply any penalties considered fair under the circumstances The following items may be removed 1. Instruments, horn, brackets and associated cables 2. Toolbox 3. Radiator fan and wiring 4. Rear guard/chain guard The following items must be removed 1. Passenger footrests/grab rails unbolted only 2. Number plate/number plate bracket 3. Safety bars, centre and side stands (fixed/welded brackets must remain) 4. Headlamp, rear lamp, blinkers. Items not allowed 1. Data logging not allowed (except for machine mounted video recorders). 2. The fitment of aftermarket traction control unit is not allowed 3. Rear shock and all linkages must remain standard, modifications not allowed 4. Tyre warmers are not allowed 5. Frame body and rear sub frame modifications not allowed 6. Emulator valves or modifications to damping mechanisms are not allowed 7. The inner and outer front fork stanchion must remain standard Tyres (the choice is optional) a) Must be commercially available in New Zealand b) Be worn no more than the tread depth indicators c) In the event of the meeting being declared wet, a commercially moulded treaded tyre MUST be used, full wet or otherwise (cut slicks are not allowed). CARL COX MOTORSPORT HYOSUNG CUP: This class of motorcycle requires an MNZ Homologation, with a minimum of 50 units sold of that mass produced motorcycle. This homologated motorcycle must be a street type, road registerable and Wof mass production machine, available and sold new in New Zealand. This class to be called CARL COX MOTORSPORT HYOSUNG CUP and is restricted to Hyosung GT250 s, GT250R s, GD250N (X4) and GD250R (X4R) manufactured from In special cases approval may be granted by the Board on an individual basis for a 13year old to ride in this production class. The basis for this approval will be are commendation from a previous or current top level rider or coach who shall commit to act as a mentor to the junior rider until the rider is eligible for a senior license. All riders are to wear a high visibility vest over their leathers for the first events at which they compete. Proof of these events will be from their log book.
5 NOTE: All items not mentioned in the following articles must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer, remain fitted and operational for that homologated model. The parts and service manuals for the homologated models will be used as reference to confirm standard specifications. 1. V Twin or single cylinder four stroke 250cc engines 2. Only OEM engine parts for the homologated model may be fitted - In the case of over boring, only oversizes listed as genuine options in the manufacturers parts book for the homologated model may be used. Only the manufacturers gaskets may be used. 3. Numbers, Board Colours, size and placement: Refer to rule 10.2a Colours will be Orange Background, Black Numbers 4. Fuel: This class must function on normal unleaded fuel with a maximum lead content of 0.013g/l (unleaded) and a maximum RON of Tyres: a) Only treaded tyres on sale to the general public in New Zealand as E or DOT marked road legal type treaded, all weather fitment will be permitted. b) No specialist rain / wet tyres allowed, even if E or DOT marked. No modification or treatment of the tread or carcass is permitted c) Tyre warmers are not allowed 6. Machine Specifications (General): All machines must comply with the relevant general competition Rules such as Chapter 10. Effective 1st January Modifications Allowed: a) All front fork internals must remain as originally supplied by the machines manufacturer. Quality and quantity of the oil in forks is free to change. b) The height and position of the front fork in relation to the top yoke (fork crown) is free. c) Muffler: Slip-on Alloy or Stainless steel only, original headers must be retained. d) Drive sprockets and chain width may be changed e) Handlebars and levers may be changed, but the height and angle of the bars must remain as standard. GT250may fit GT250R handlebars, GD250N may fit clip on type bars. f) Instrument panel aftermarket items may be substituted for Tacho/Speedo and temperature gauges g) Foot rest/foot controls, must be mounted to the frame at the original mounting point and be the same height and position as standard. GD250 and GT250R models may use optional mounting holes to raise the footpegs. h) Substitution of rubber topped foot pegs for other material is allowed. i) The fitment of an aftermarket sub frame supporting the seat and tailpiece is allowed providing that the construction is as the original OEM parts both in material, construction and design. Items (battery, wiring, ecu, etc) must be fitted to the aftermarket Sub frame in the same position as the original OEM fitment. j) Small protective cones/knobs may be fitted to minimize accident damage.
6 k) Brake disc pads. l) Brake lines front and rear. m) Spark plugs n) Carburettor jetting and slides. Fuel injected models may run model specific plug and play, Power Commander type mixture controllers. NO other modifications/ alterations/ additions to fuel mixture control, ignition curves or wiring loom are allowable o) Ignition, Engine control module/unit (ICM, ECU, ECM) and wiring loom must remain standard. p) Countershaft sprocket cover may be modified to allow for altered gear change pattern, but must remain fitted to the machine. q) Lamda sensor(s) may be removed and replaced with a blanking plug, but the original fitting must remain in the original unmodified header. 8. Fairing/Body Work: a) Fibreglass replicas of originals are allowed but the fairing shape and size must remain as homologated. b) Headlight, mirror and indicator holes may be filled in. Note that the use of carbon fibre is restricted to small reinforcing amounts in the mounting area only. c) Replicas of genuine OEM solo seat cowls for that homologated model may be fitted Effective 1st January 2012 d) The original combination instrument/fairing brackets may be changed. e) Material may be removed from the side stand bracket to the extent where it does not contact the race track whilst competing f) Fairing screens maybe changed for non original and material. 9. The following items must be removed: a) Passenger footrests/grab rails b) Side stand c) Safety bars, centre stands (all fixed or welded brackets must remain in place) d) Where breather or over flow pipes are fitted they must discharge via existing outlet. The original closed system must be retained; no direct atmospheric emission is permitted. e) Headlight, rear light and blinkers must be removed f) Horn g) License plate bracket 10. Additional Equipment not fitted on the original homologated model must not be added (ie Data Acquisition, computers, recording equipment etc) Lap timers may be used. 11. The following may be removed: a) Instruments, brackets and associated cables b) Toolbox c) Speedometer d) Radiator fan and wiring e) Number plate/rear guard f) Passenger footpeg brackets may be unbolted only NO cutting allowed. In cases where the peg hanger is used as a muffler bracket, it may be replaced with an alternative of the same material. 12. Items not allowed: a) No Data logging b) The fitment of aftermarket Traction Control units is not permitted

Le Mans Start Race: a) All bikes must be lined up in the correct starting position with dead engines. b) Person holding the bike MUST not move off the grass to push the bike. c) Person holding the bike for the rider must wear suitable clothing and covered footwear. No loose articles of clothing.
