1 Fitting Instructions: Sprint ST (050cc) Box Pannier Kit - A Box Pannier Kit, US, CA, SG - A Throughout this operation, ensure that the motorcycle is stabilised and adequately supported on a paddock stand to prevent risk of injury from the motorcycle falling. Always have Triumph approved parts, accessories and conversions fitted by a trained technician of an authorised Triumph Dealer. The fitment of parts, accessories and conversions by a technician who is not of an authorised Triumph dealer may affect the handling, stability or other aspects of the motorcycles operation which may result in loss of motorcycle control and an accident cdeh Parts Supplied:. 2 Failure to tighten any of the fasteners to the correct torque may result in loss of motorcycle control and an accident. This accessory kit is designed for use on Triumph Sprint ST (050cc) motorcycles only and should not be fitted to any other Triumph model or to any other manufacturer s motorcycle. Fitting this accessory kit to any other Triumph model or to any other manufacturer s motorcycle, may interfere with the rider and could affect the stability and handling of the motorcycle leading to loss of control and an accident.. Position the motorcycle on a paddock stand. 4. Remove the bodywork/side panel.. Remove the seat and disconnect the battery, negative (black) lead first.. Remove the fixings securing the bodywork/side panel to the frame. g 5. Undo and remove the fixings securing the splash guard to the underside of the rear mudguard. Remove the splash guard. cctr. 3 6. Support the rear mudguard and remove the three fixings securing it to the lugs on the rear light unit bracket. Caution Do not allow the rear mudguard assembly to hang unsupported. Damage to the wiring harness supplying the rear lights may occur if the rear mudguard is allowed to hang unsupported. 7. Move the mudguard rearwards and reattach it to the lugs on the rear light unit bracket using the raised fixing holes in the mudguard instead of the original holes. Tighten the fixings to 9 Nm. 9. Undo and remove the four fixings securing the rear light unit bracket to the frame. Support the rear light unit/ mudguard assembly. Caution Do not allow the light unit/mudguard assembly to hang unsupported. Damage to the wiring harness supplying the rear lights may occur if the light unit/ mudguard assembly is allowed to hang unsupported.. Raised fixing holes. Rear light unit bracket. 8. Refit the splash guard ensuring the tab on the guard locates with the cutout on the mudguard. Tighten the fixings to Nm.. Fixings (right hand side shown). Rear light unit bracket 0. Recover the rear slide assembly from the fitting kit. Secure the rear slide assembly and rear light unit/mudguard assembly in the light unit s original position, using the original fixings. 4 . Remove the bungs from both sides of the grab rail. NOTE Retain the bungs for use if the motorcycle is returned to original condition. NOTE Retain the fixings for use if the motorcycle is returned to original condition.. Locate the right hand intermediate bracket and spacers from the kit and secure to the right hand side of the rear subframe with the M8 capscrews supplied. Tighten the bolts to 7 Nm. dl. Right hand rear footrest bracket. Fixings 4. Right hand intermediate bracket. Spacers. M8 x 5 mm capscrews 6. Recover both locator brackets, the four rubber bungs and their rubber boots from the kit. Fit the bungs to the holes in the converging end of each bracket and the rubber boots to the ends. 7. Position the right hand locator bracket to the inside of the subframe. Secure the bracket together with the right hand footrest/bracket as shown. Tighten the bolts to 7 Nm. 4. Rear subframe. Fit the left hand intermediate bracket in the same manner Refit the rear bodywork/side panel. Tighten the fixings to Nm. 5. Undo and remove the fixings securing the rear footrest brackets to the subframe. Remove the brackets. cdeg NOTE Models up to VIN 4486 were fitted with two 5mm spacers on the left hand footrest. 5 cdho 8. Fit the left hand locator bracket in the same manner. NOTE Models up to VIN 4486 only - Refit the spacers retained from step 5 in the position noted. 9. Recover the right hand pannier rail and the protective tape from the kit. Peel the backing from the protective tape and position the tape on the lower end of the pannier rail as shown.. Recover two compression limiters (upper) from the kit and fit into the holes at the upper end of the pannier rail as shown. hp. Compression limiters M8 x 9mm. Pannier rail. Loosely secure the lower end of the pannier rail to the right hand intermediate bracket (which is visible through the cut-out section of the bodywork) with the two M6 x 40 mm capscrews and washers supplied.. Pannier rail. Protective tape position 0. Recover two compression limiters (lower) from the kit and fit into the holes at the lower end of the pannier rail as shown.. Right hand pannier rail. M6 x 40 mm capscrews and washers M8 x 0mm M8 x mm. Compression limiters (lower). Pannier rail Page 5

6 . Align the upper end of the pannier rail to the grab rail. Secure with the M6 x 0 mm capscrews and washers supplied. Tighten all four pannier rail fixings to 9 Nm. Reflector fitment - United States, Canada & Singapore only. Peel the protective film from the back of each reflector.. Fit one reflector to each pannier, in the position shown ensuring the surface of the pannier is clean and free from grease. Failure to fit a reflector to each pannier as shown contravenes federal law and renders the motorcycle illegal for road use in the United States, Canada and Singapore. Always fit the reflectors as shown.. Pannier rail. Grab rail. M6 x 0 mm capscrews and washers 4. Apply the protective tape and fit the left hand pannier rail in the same manner. 5. Reconnect the battery, positive (red) lead first and refit the seat. Tighten the seat fixings to Nm. Lock barrel fitment. Take a lock barrel and key (supplied with the motorcycle), insert the key into the barrel and push the barrel into position in the pannier until it clicks into place. NOTE The lock barrel will only fit one way.. Check the operation of the lock barrel.. Turn the key to the central position and remove the key. 4. Fit a lock barrel to the remaining pannier in the same manner. 0 mm. Left hand pannier. Reflector Forward 50 mm approx. Right hand pannier. Reflector Forward 50 mm approx 0 mm Page 6

7 Mounting the panniers. Insert the key into the lock. Turn the key anti-clockwise and the carrying handle will release. Lift the carrying handle to it s fully raised position.. Lower the rear fixed hook to the pannier rail ensuring that the end of the locating bracket fits into the locating cup moulded into the side of the pannier. cddr cddo. Carrying handle. Position the pannier against the pannier rail and engage the front fixed hook of the pannier with the front locating point on the rail. The rear fixed hook should be above the pannier rail at this point.. Pannier. Locating cup. Locating bracket 4. Lock the pannier to the rail by turning and holding the key anti-clockwise and at the same time pressing the carrying handle to the fully closed position. Turn the key to the central LOCK position and remove it. 5. Mount the remaining pannier in the same manner. o. Front fixed hook (pannier). Front locating point (pannier rail). Rear fixed hook Page 7

8 Pannier operation. Carrying handle. Press plate. key To unlock the lid of the pannier, insert the key. Turn the key to the OPEN position, then press down on the press plate. The lid can then be opened. To lock the lid of the pannier, turn the key to the open position, press down on the press plate and close the lid then release the press plate. Turn the key to the central LOCK position and remove it. If the key cannot be removed, repeat the lid locking procedure making sure the lid is properly closed and the press plate has returned to the fully locked position. To unlock and remove the pannier from the pannier rail, insert the key into the lock and turn it anti-clockwise whilst lifting the carrying handle to the fully raised position. Use the carrying handle to lift the pannier free from the pannier rail. Page 8

9 The maximum safe load for each pannier is 5 Kg ( lbs). Never exceed this loading limit as this may cause the motorcycle to become unstable leading to loss of control and an accident. In all cases, loads must be evenly distributed on both sides of the motorcycle. Uneven loading may cause instability, loss of control and an accident. After fitting this accessory kit, operate the motorcycle in a safe area free from traffic to gain familiarity with the new handling characteristics. Operation when not familiar with the new characteristics of the motorcycle may result in loss of control and an accident. Never ride an accessory equipped motorcycle at speeds above the legal speed limit or at a speed inappropriate for the circumstances. Speeds in excess of 0 km/h (80 m.p.h.) should not be attempted on an accessory equipped motorcycle even where the legal speed limit permits this. The presence of accessories will cause changes in the stability and handling of the motorcycle. Failure to allow for changes in motorcycle stability may lead to loss of control or an accident. Remember that the 0 km/h (80 m.p.h.) absolute limit will be reduced by the fitting of non-approved accessories, incorrect loading, worn tyres, overall motorcycle condition and poor road or weather conditions. This motorcycle must not be operated above the legal road speed limit except in authorised closed course conditions. Only operate this Triumph motorcycle at high speed in closed-course on-road competition or on closed course racetracks. High speed operation should only be attempted by riders who have been instructed in the techniques necessary for high speed riding and are familiar with the motorcycle s characteristics in all conditions. High speed operation in any other circumstances is dangerous and will lead to loss of motorcycle control and an accident. Page 9

10 Fitting Instructions: Supplement for Lock Operation Throughout this operation, ensure that the motorcycle is stabilised and adequately supported on a stand to prevent risk of injury from the motorcycle falling. Always have Triumph approved parts, accessories and conversions fitted by a trained technician of an authorised Triumph dealer. The fitment of parts, accessories and conversions by a technician who is not of an authorised Triumph dealer may affect the handling, stability or other aspects of the motorcycles operation which may result in loss of motorcycle control and an accident. Note: This supplement provides revised instructions for operating the pannier/top box lock mechanism, for removal and installation of the panniers or top box. Opening and closing of the pannier or top box lids is unaffected by this amendment. This supplement should be considered a permanent part of the fitting instructions supplied with the accessory kit. cddo Carrying Handle (pannier lock shown, top box lock similar). Press the carrying handle inwards. Turn the key anti-clockwise. Release the handle Insert the key into the lock. Lightly press on the carrying handle and turn the key anti-clockwise. Release the carrying handle. Lift the carrying handle to its fully raised position and remove or install the pannier/top box as required, following the remainder of the accessory kit instructions. Incorrect loading may result in an unsafe riding condition leading to an accident. Always ensure any loads carried are evenly distributed on both sides of the motorcycle. Ensure that the load is correctly secured such that it will not move around while the motorcycle is in motion. Always check the load security regularly (though not while the motorcycle is in motion) and ensure that the load does not extend beyond the rear of the motorcycle. Never exceed the maximum vehicle loading weight as stated in the Owner s Handbook. This maximum loading weight is made up from the combined weight of the rider, passenger, any accessories fitted and any load carried. After fitting or removing luggage, operate the motorcycle in a safe area free from traffic to gain familiarity with the new handling characteristics.
