1 Fitting Instructions: Sprint ST (955i), Sprint RS & Tiger 955cc Heated Grip Kit This accessory kit is designed for use on Triumph Sprint ST (955i), Sprint RS & Tiger 955cc motorcycles only and should not be fitted to any other Triumph model or to any other manufacturer s motorcycle. Fitting this accessory kit to any other Triumph model or to any other manufacturer s motorcycle will affect the performance, stability and handling of the motorcycle. This may affect the riders ability to control the motorcycle and could cause an accident. Always have Triumph approved parts, accessories and conversions fitted by a trained technician of an authorised Triumph dealer. The fitment of parts, accessories and conversions by a technician who is not of an authorised Triumph dealer may affect the handling, stability or other aspects of the motorcycles operation which may result in loss of motorcycle control and an accident. Always ensure that newly installed wiring does not chafe against other parts of the motorcycle such that they may be rubbed through and cause an electrical problem. In addition, always ensure that newly installed wiring will not restrict steering movement. Both conditions are hazardous and could give rise to a dangerous riding condition resulting in a fire, loss of motorcycle control and an accident Parts Supplied:. Sub-harness off. Grip, left-hand off. Grip, right-hand off 4. Clips (Sprint ST & RS only) off 5. Switch and cable off 6. Cable ties pack 7. Washer, M6 (Tiger only) off 8. Connector blocks off 9. Relay off 0.Template (Sprint ST & RS only)... off Throughout this operation, ensure that the motorcycle is stabilised and adequately supported on a paddock stand to prevent risk of injury from the motorcycle falling. 2 A torque wrench of known accurate calibration must be used when fitting this accessory kit. Failure to tighten any of the fasteners to the correct torque specification may result in loss of motorcycle control and an accident. Completely read all the instructions before commencing the installation and set up of the accessory kit in order to become thoroughly familiar with the kit s features and the installation process. Installation. Remove the seat(s) and disconnect the battery, negative (black) lead first.. Remove the cockpit fairing.. Tiger only - Remove the hand shields. 4. All models - Remove the handlebar end weights. 5. At the left-hand handlebar, remove the switch housing screws and allow the switch housing to hang free of the handlebar. 6. Cut off the handlebar grip. 7. At the right-hand handlebar, remove the switch housing screws and allow the switch housing to hang free of the handlebar. To gain access to the switch housing screws it may be necessary to slacken the front brake/ master cylinder clamp screws and rotate the assembly out of the way. the handlebar. Push the grip on until it is flush with the end of the handlebar. Right-hand grip (Sprint ST & RS only) 0. Refit the throttle cable(s) aligning the twist grip housing so that the throttle cable(s) pass through the loop in the pipe from the front brake fluid reservoir as shown. Do not allow the master cylinder to invert as this will introduce air into the brake system and may also cause brake fluid to leak resulting in damage to bodywork. A dangerous riding condition, leading to loss of motorcycle control and an accident could result if this warning is ignored. 8. Disconnect the throttle cable and remove the handlebar grip. 9. Sprint ST & RS only - Carefully slide the righthand (throttle) heated grip onto the right-hand handlebar ensuring that the heating element cable is located in the groove in the underside of caia Correct alignment of twist grip housing. Carefully check that the twist grip rotates smoothly through its full range of movement. If any tightness is felt, loosen the twist grip and readjust the alignment.. Refit the switch housing ensuring that the heating element cable remains located in the handlebar groove and is not trapped. of 5

3 . Tiger only - Thread the right-hand (throttle) grip heating element cable into the end of the handlebar and out through the hole in the underside, as shown.. Tiger only - Fit the supplied M6 washer then the right-hand handlebar end weight as shown.. Washer, M6 Right-hand grip (Tiger only) 4. Carefully fit the grip ensuring that the cable is located in the cut-away area of the handlebar and cannot be trapped. 5. Push the grip on until it is flush with the handlebar and reconnect the throttle cable. 6. Refit the throttle cables and carefully check that the twist grip rotates smoothly through its full range of movement. If any tightness is felt, loosen the twist grip and re-adjust the alignment. 7. Refit the switch housing ensuring that the boss locates on the dowel hole and tighten the securing screws. 8. All models - Check that there is - mm of free play at the throttle twist grip. Adjust if necessary. Operation of the motorcycle with an incorrectly adjusted, incorrectly routed or damaged throttle cable could interfere with the operation of the brakes, clutch or the throttle itself. Any of these conditions could result in loss of motorcycle control and an accident. 9. Re-secure the front brake lever/master cylinder by aligning the clamp split line with the dot mark on the handlebar and tightening the clamp bolts, upper first, to 5 Nm. 0. Sprint ST & RS only - Refit the right-hand handlebar end weight.. Fit the right-hand hand shield. Tighten the screw to Nm and the locknut to 6 Nm. The brake and clutch levers may jam if the hand shields are fitted incorrectly. Take particular care when refitting the hand shields, then check the brake and clutch levers for unhindered operation. Failure to do this could result in loss of motorcycle control and an accident.. All models - Fit the left-hand heated grip in the same way as for the right, again ensuring that the heating element cable is located correctly and cannot be trapped. 4. Refit the left-hand switch housing and handlebar end weight. On Tiger fit the left-hand hand shield. 5. Tiger only - Remove the switch blank for the instrument panel. 6. Sprint ST & RS only - Using the supplied template, mark the left-hand fairing as shown, of 5

4 remove the template and cut out the marked area. 9. Route the cables to the relay block as follows: Sprint ST only - behind the right-hand headlamp, Sprint RS only - behind the instrument panel, Tiger only - under the left-hand instrument facia. 0. Secure the cables to the existing harnesses using the cable ties supplied.. Recover the heated grips relay from the kit and connect to the sub-harness.. Left-hand lower fairing. Area to be cut out. Template 7. All models - Feed the switch wiring through the switch hole and secure the switch (push fit), ensuring that the switch symbol is towards the front of the motorcycle.. Identify the -way power socket on the main wiring harness (located near the relay block) and connect the sub-harness power plug.. Connect the cables from the operating switch and handlebar grips to the corresponding connectors on the sub-harness ( & below), ensuring that the grip cable wires are connected black to black and brown to brown. Secure the heated grips relay to the instrument support sub-frame using a cable tie. When fitting and connecting the sub-harness, route the cables to follow existing harnesses where possible and ensure no cables can be trapped or stretched by the steering mechanism. 8. Attach the supplied terminal blocks to the handlebar grip wires ensuring the correct orientation of the terminals.. -way power socket. Switch connector. Instrument support sub-frame 4. Secure the sub-harness and all loose cables to the existing harness using the cable ties supplied, ensuring that the steering mechanism is not hampered and that the cables cannot be trapped or stretched.. Black terminal. Brown terminal. Connector block The operating switch cable has been supplied to a specific length, the resistance within the wires being critical to the correct 4 of 5

5 operation of the heated grips circuit and must not be shortened. Excess cable should be secured as follows: Sprint ST & Sprint RS only - Secure the cable using the two self-adhesive cable clips supplied, fixed to the inside surface of the side fairing, adjacent to the operating switch. Operation The three position switch is connected into the ignition circuit. The handlebar grips will only heat when the ignition is switched on. The system is designed to offer two levels of heat at the grips, HOT or WARM. Tiger only - Secure the cable to the instrument support sub-frame using the cable ties supplied and refit the cockpit fairing. Do not coil excess cable. Coiling excess cable could cause restriction of the steering and entrapment of the wires leading to a dangerous riding condition, loss of motorcycle control and an accident. Ensure that steering movement is not restricted by turning the handlebars through their full range of movement while checking that they move freely from left to right. 5. Reconnect the battery, positive (red) lead first and refit the seat(s). To test the heated handlebar grip system. Run the engine to avoid draining the battery. Before running the engine, ensure the working area is adequately ventilated to avoid the risk of asphyxiation from the inhalation of exhaust fumes.. Operate the switch in both positions and check for heating. The heated handlebar grip system is protected by the 0 amp AUX fuse.. Hot (use only until grips are warm). OFF. WARM For maximum benefit in cold conditions, position the switch to the HOT position initially and then to the WARM position when the grips have warmed up. If, after fitting this accessory kit, you have any doubt about the performance of any aspect of the motorcycle, contact an authorised Triumph dealer and do not ride the motorcycle until the authorised dealer has declared it fit for use. Riding a motorcycle when there is any doubt as to any aspect of the performance of the motorcycle may result in loss of control of the motorcycle leading to an accident. 5 of 5
