The food was delicious and the fellowship was heartwarming. Thanks to all who shared their culinary talents. I counted 40 participants on that hot Saturday. It was great to see so many members and visit with everyone, especially our recently recuperating friends Jack and Nurse Sharon, Mike and Nurse Sue, Greg and Nurse Cis. And what a treat to meet Todd and Regina Lambert who came all the way from El Dorado to be with us. We look forward to getting together with all of you as often as you can join us. Here's a big thank you to all our members - from Don and his P.A. system, to Joan and Sandi who helped with the set up to Tom and his donated tickets for the Kiwanis BratFest. If I neglected to mention anyone, please forgive me - I'm getting older and more forgetful every day. But I do smile every time I think of ya'll and the joy of riding we all share. 3 As you know, John and I left on our six week RV trip two weeks ago today. We are now in Spokane Valley, WA for three days, but spent the last four days in West Glacier National Park. It was incredibly beautiful. Some show on the mountains % some on the waterfalls. One picture is of the only glacier that we can see. There are actually 23 remaining glaciers in the park, and they are small. On the way to the park we stopped and took pictures of Flathead Lake in Polson, MT. We went on a 4 hour tour on the red bus - there are 33 of these doing daily tours - the vehicles are 80 years old! Note the different colors on the waterfalls - that comes from the glaciers rubbing against the rocks over many years. Written by Cathy Carr

7 As we go into week three of our RV trip, we are now in the Redwoods in CA. We spent today driving through this incredible national forest and doing some of the touristy sites, too. You will note the pictures of the Pacific Ocean from both the 101 and the Klamath overlook, as well as the Trees of Mystery gondola ride and the Tour thru Tree - humongous tree that we drove through! 14 On Wed we went to Queen Wilhelmina and then to the Chopping Block Restaurant in Mena, AR. This is the restaurant where they have fresh quality beef done any way you like it. Our waitress, Angie Brown, was a sweet & good waitress. Tom lead the ride with Skip, John and me behind. I followed at the back in my little Red Corvette. Written by Valerie Hewett The Queen Wilhelmina Bear Walt, Charlotte, Don & I went to the Motorcycle Rally in HS Sat. Walt & Charlotte tried out the new F Spider. Walt said that it was lower to the ground which helped when going around curves. However, the room for luggage was smaller.

Ed told them about our picnic and invited them since they were GWRRA members already from El Dorado. They have a 40th anniversary 2015 Gold Wing. Regina & Sylvia had some very flashy shirts on. 24 Motorcycle Maintenance Pays Dividends By Tom Harrison Chapter AR-E Educator My Grandfather rode over one million Harley Davidson factory certified miles on his company supplied sidecars outfits in his career spanning from 1919 to I don t remember him ever having a machine breakdown or part failure putting him in danger. Here are a few things I learned from him and by doing internet research: A motorcycle is designed as a complete package with careful consideration given to everything from tire fitment to exhaust engineering. For instance, as a boy, I removed the muffler from my 165cc Harley because I thought it make it sound and run better. When he came to visit, I was amazed by the engineering drawings he showed me that documented the tuned exhaust on that machine. As it turned out, the back pressure and shape of the muffler resulted in a shock wave arriving at the exhaust port and precisely the right time to prevent incoming fuel from flowing directly out the exhaust (2 cycle engine). Back pressure and shock wave timing are also in play on four stroke engines. Now, let s look at common mistakes I see riders make maintaining their motorcycles and what the potential impact it could be: 1) For the 1800 Honda Goldwing, follow the maintenance schedule found on our website ) When choosing engine oil and filters, use Honda OEM parts or do substantial research to make sure what you chose is compatible to your motorcycle. Many automotive oils ARE NOT compatible with motorcycles because of detergents. Also, many aftermarket oil filters are bad!! Jay at John s Honda cut 6 different oil filters in half. I was shocked at how bad some of them are. Since an oil filter has a bypass valve that is sometime open when the weather is cold, you might be bypassing dirty oil through your engine even when the engine has warmed up. For Arkansas, I would recommend using SAE 10W-40 oil even though the manual says SAE 10W-30 because is protects for a wider ranges of temperatures. RECOMMENDED ENGINE OIL: Pro Honda GN4 4-stroke oil (U.S.A. and Canada) or equivalent motor oil API service classification: SG or Higher JASO T 903 standard: MA Viscosity: SAE 10W-30 3) When you change spark plugs, MAKE SURE THE DEALER installs the standard heat range of plug unless you plan to ride in very cold climates are at very high speeds. I have had dealers install the wrong heat range AND NOT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE!!! The wrong heat range can damage the engine.

25 RECOMMENDED SPARK PLUGS: Standard: BKR6E-11 (NGK), K20PR-U11 (DENSO) For cold climate (below 5 C/41 F): BKR5E-11 (NGK), K16PR-U11 (DENSO) For expected high speed riding: BKR7E-11 (NGK), K22PR-U11 (DENSO) 4) Always use motorcycle tires with the proper speed rating on you motorcycle (except trikes). The Goldwing rim and virtually all motorcycle rims are design differently from car rims, and the fitment is not good. Also, with a car tire, after 8 degrees of lean, you are riding on the sidewalls and in imminent danger of crashing.particularly on wet pavement. Properly inflated motorcycle tires are designed to provide a tire patch up to 45 degrees of lean which is far safer. Finally, like it or not, Goldwing tires generally lose 1 to 2 lbs of air per week. Nitrogen does NOT seem to solve this problem but in some cases helps. If you over or under inflate tires, it causes uneven wear, premature replacement, and changes in handling. 5) Change brake and clutch hydraulic fluid on the recommended cycle. Hydraulic fluid absorbs moisture. The Goldwing has a valve in the brake lines that sends more pressure to the front brakes under hard braking conditions. If old hydraulic fluid rusts this valve, it will not function properly. Trike riders need to check with the agent who did their conversion to determine if the compensator valve is still in the system. 6) Use Honda OEM replacement brake pads. If you held brand X or cheaper versions in comparison to OEM pads, the difference is often dramatic. 7) Changing air filtration and exhaust systems on any motorcycle can cause damage unless the electronic ignition is remapped or for nonfuel injected engines, the fuel jets are changed in accordance with quality engineering studies. For Goldwing air filters, you should use the OEM air filter or a proven replacement that has pasted engineering standards e.g. K&N 8) Deer whistles DO NOT WORK!!! A number of University studies have shown that deer have the same hearing range as people. If we can t hear a whistle, than the deer sure can t. 9) Trike riders should NEVER aggressively use the engine for braking their machine. This subjects that transmission and drive train to stresses it was never designed to withstand. 10) You bike should be equipped with a conveyance for carrying liquids, first aid kit, sun tan lotion and UV screener lip balm. Carrying a rain suit Is optional. In summary, Honda assigned the world class road racing engineering team to design, build and test the new Honda 1800 Goldwing. Unless you believe you know more than them, I would strongly recommend that you follow their maintenance schedule and not use inferior substitute products. In some cases, there is strong scientific research supporting alternative products e.g. K&N oil and air filters. Some people believe that if they use products touted as being superior to OEM that they can go longer intervals between maintenance. I recommend against this and believe that the service manual should be treated as the authority.

While being similar, they are different. A mission statement should answer the question 'what do we do and who do we do it for?'. The statement of purpose answers the question 'why do we do what we do?'. The statement of purpose contained in the Officer Handbook includes pieces of the mission and sums it up very succinctly to answer the questions of 'what do we do and for whom' as well as 'why we do it'. GWRRA is an informal educational, social organization of proud, unique and special people Gold Wing Owners. It was formed for people to exchange ideas, share safety information relating to motorcycling and motorcyclists, educate the nonmotorcycling public concerning motorcycling problems and participate in impromptu rides. In addition, it supports the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and assists all motorcyclists in achieving and/or improving public acceptance of motorcyclists. GWRRA is a family-oriented organization, without political or religious affiliations or influence and supports civic, local, police, charity, and government organizations. GWRRA publishes and distributes Wing World and other media that will inform, educate, entertain and enlighten our Members and Officers. Hard to believe that everything we do can be distilled into one paragraph from the Officer Handbook. Putting that paragraph into actions is where all of the FUN happens. 27 Well it is still hot!! Vicki and I with Tim Nagy road to Jasper on Saturday. The morning was a nice cool ride but in the afternoon it was getting hot. We road through Mount Judea and over to Jasper. With the coming of September the weather should start getting better for riding. Speaking of attending different chapters meetings. Please try to go to as many different chapters meeting as you are able. Get to know the other members and have as much fun as you can. Chapter B rally will be on September 10 th at Lake Fort Smith State Park. Chapter D rally will be on Oct. 1 st. at Lake Frierson state park. Please try to attend these rallies as they are some of the best rallies in the state. In the past these rally s always have some FUN games and some good food. On October the 8 th is the district Picnic at Burns Park. This is where we will have a chili cook off. Any of the chapters that want to enter the cook off please bring a pot of chili. If you don t want to enter you can still bring a pot of chili. The district will have the Hot Dogs and fixing. We will have some chapter games to see who will take home the district trophy.
