There are four available blades: J-shaped blades (a): for tough soil. L-shaped blades (b): for normal soil. Straight blades for tough soil with divots (c). Spike blades for tough soil with stones (d). The flanges can be fitted with six or four blades, six for soil of normal consistency, four for highly compact or damp soil which tends to clog the rotor. To further increase resistance and extend the service life of rotors which are normally used on tough soil, counter flanges (e) are fitted as standard on the GS 250 and are available as an option on all other models. The helical arrangement of the blades (f) on the rotor reduces power consumption during operation and eliminates vibration. NOTE At the end of the rotor the tools are always mounted so as to fully exploit the working width (g). 12

Delivery and preparation of the machine Delivery and preparation of the machine Checking the machine On delivery, check that all parts of the machine are present and that they have not been damaged in transit; notify your dealer, importer or the manufacturer immediately of any defects found. Pre-delivery checks The machine leaves the Manufacturer with all parts in fully working order. In all cases, it is the Retailer's responsibility to check the following upon delivery to the User: the three-point attachment is correctly mounted, the oil in the transmission unit and gearbox is at prescribed levels, grease injected into the greasers is present, all adhesive safety labels indicated in the present booklet must be present and legible, screws and bolts must be securely tightened, EEC-compliant guards are provided, the machine must be free of imperfections upon general inspection. The Retailer must draw the user's attention to this manual and the drive shaft manual also provided, which must both be kept by the user throughout the machine's service life. The Retailer is also responsible for recommending that the user reads these manuals carefully. NOTE For transport purposes, the skid shoes are each fitted with a support (26) which must be removed before the implement is used. Preparation Risk of crushing and cuts! During machine preparation operations, observe the SAFETY rules, in particular: make sure that the machine is in a very stable position. Do not stand between the tractor and the machine during hitching or unhitching operations. If it is necessary to work in the area between the tractor and the machine, observe the safety rules (tractor engine switched off, Pto disengaged, tractor parking brake applied, key removed from starter switch, chocks placed under wheels of the tractor) Before hitching or unhitching the machine to/from the tractor, position the lift control lever in a position where it is not possible to operate it. Do not stand under suspended loads Take all necessary precautions to prevent injury or damage caused by accidental falls 16

Delivery and preparation of the machine Removing the transportation supports To remove the transportation supports (26) proceed as follows: > Raise the machine, observing the safety rules Caution: suspended load hazard! > Slacken off the nuts securing the supports and remove the bolts > Remove the supports (26) > Fit the guards and relative foot stand to the machine 26 17

Hitching the machine Hitching the machine We strongly recommend that you observe the safety warnings given in the previous pages of this manual. The category of the tractor three-point linkage must match that of the implement. The power of the tractor must correspond to the type of implement chosen. To connect the rotary tiller to the tractor, use the three-point linkage and proceed as follows: > Insert the lower links into the corresponding rotary tiller attachments (in some cases these slide to facilitate setup of the implement). > Secure the lower links with the locking pins and safety cotter pins. NOTE Attachment is made easier if the lower link stabilisers are adjusted so as to allow the lower links to move freely. On completion of the hitching operation, the stabilisers should be adjusted so as to limit oscillation (during implement transport, all oscillation must be completely eliminated). > The GS 81 and 121 models are equipped with Category II linkage, whereas the GS250 models are supplied with Cat. II and Cat. III linkage. (the Cat. III linkage fitting is located externally). > Insert the tractor's third-point attachment in the hole on the upper plate of the rotary tiller and secure it using the locking pin and safety cotter pins. Then adjust the implement, bearing in mind that the power take-off of the rotary tiller must be horizontal when the machine is in operation. GS250 GS81 - GS121 Cat.3 Cat.2 Cat.2 Cat.2 Cat.3 Cat.2 Tractor and implement combination: do not exceed the maximum permitted weights! The combination of the mounted implement and tractor must not exceed the maximum permitted weight, i.e. the maximum permitted axle loads and the load capacity of the tractor wheels. At least 20% of the tractor weight must be supported on the front axle of the tractor. 18

Hitching the machine Connection of the drive shaft Read the manual supplied with the drive shaft carefully. Do not use any drive shafts other than the one supplied with the machine. Clean and grease the tractor Pto and the chopper power input before connecting the drive shaft. Check the dimensions! Before connecting the drive shaft, check that its dimensions are suitable for attachment to the tractor's Pto. An excessively long shaft may result in serious damage to the shaft itself and to the tractor and rotary tiller transmissions. If the drive shaft is too short, the two halves of the shaft could become separated with a consequent risk of serious injury and damage. To check the length of the drive shaft, proceed as follows: Place the two halves of the drive shaft assembly (the half connected to the tractor Pto and the half connected to the implement) side by side; the tractor Pto half and the implement half should be parallel; the angle can be adjusted by way of the top link of the hydraulic linkage. If the sliding distance of the shafts is less than 40mm, then both the halves will have to be shortened by a corresponding amount. Maintain the difference in length between the outer tube and the inner section. Always make sure that the maximum coverage of the sliding element is maintained. The coverage should be at least 1/3 during operation. With the rotary tiller in the working position, the drive shaft angle must not exceed 20 (e.g. at an operating depth of 10 cm), where the maximum permitted angle is 25. Connection of the drive shaft to the implement Proceed as follows: > Clean and grease the input shaft of the implement and the internal splines (27) of the drive shaft. > Unscrew and remove the screws (28) securing the splined coupling of the drive shaft to the implement input shaft. > Loosen the screws (29) securing the guard (30) to the flange on the assembly. > Detach the shield by turning it clockwise and slide it along the driveshaft. > Slide the drive shaft (27) along the implement connection half of the drive shaft until the holes for the bolts of the implement input shaft are 19

Hitching the machine positioned in correspondence with the splines on the shaft > Insert the screws (28) in their holes while moving the joint slightly, then tighten the screws (torque setting 70Nm) > Make sure that the universal joint is securely fixed > Slide the guard (30) on to the drive shaft until it is back in the starting position and reattach it by turning it in an anti-clockwise direction. > fix the shield in position with the screws (29). > Check the two half shields rotate freely and independently of each other, then attach the support chain for the shield tube. During work, check at regular intervals that the universal joint screws are correctly tightened. Connection of the driveshaft to the tractor Proceed as follows: > Clean and grease the Pto output shaft and the internal splines of the universal joint. > Fit the tractor connection half of the drive shaft on the tractor Pto output shaft. > Release the universal joint safety locking device > Fit the drive shaft half on to the Pto stub shaft > Secure the drive shaft with safety lock > Check that the drive shaft is securely fixed 20

Preparation in the field Preparation in the field We strongly recommend that you observe the safety warnings given in the previous pages of this manual. Adjusting the working depth The working depth can be adjusted in serveral ways: Using skid shoes: unscrew the nut (32) and remove the bolt and nut (31), then adjust the height of the skid shoes by repositioning them in the available holes. Front wheels: remove the snap-on plug (33) and reposition the pin (34) in another hole to adjust the working height. Rear wheel: the wheel is height-adjustable by means of a crank connected to a screw. This allows for precise vertical adjustment of the wheel. Rear rollers: all types of available roller are adjustable by positioning the two pins (35) in the holes of the roller arm mount, spacing them so that the arm reaches the end of its travel at the upper pin. When the roller is placed on the ground the implement will lower as far as the preset limit stop, thus enabling the implement to rise over any obstacles on the ground while keeping the roller in contact with the working surface GS Track eradicator (optional) Can be the single or double type, both are height and width adjustable. The individual track eradicators must be positioned in the centre of the tracks left by the tractor tyres and adjusted to a working depth of approximately 5 cm. The track eradicators must be positioned at the sides of the track, at the same working depth. 21

Preparation in the field Rear deflector The deflector can be adjusted by means of the chain (fig. A) or drilled rod with spring (fig. B). A B NOTE The rear deflector must be fitted to the machine at all times and adjusted so as to prevent any type of risk during use. Starting work Before using the implement: > Check the lubrication of the various parts (see chapter on maintenance), in particular: the transmission oil level the gearbox oil level check that the various parts which require greasing have been lubricated. > Carry out the operations described in the previous pages. > Raise the machine cm above the ground. > Insert the Pto, thereby starting rotation. > Start driving the tractor forward and at the same time gently lower the lift until it reaches the required depth. Warning: do not carry out any manoeuvres (reversing, turning, etc.) with the power take-off engaged and the machine lowered. Danger: do not raise the machine more than 20 cm above the ground with the PTO engaged. This could cause the drive shaft to break resulting in serious injury to the operator and damage to the machine itself. Do not travel at excessive speed when operating the machine: the quality of the work will be unsatisfactory and you might damage the machine. 22

The space between the rear pulley and the edge of the triangular frame must be exactly 137 mm. This distance is obtained by adjusting the position of the pulley on the rear shaft of the implement. Operation: The assembly and operation of the seed drill are described in the manual supplied with the Accord. 32

Accessories Watertight sealing system The rotor support watertight sealing system is fitted as standard in the versions GS 121 cm 250/300 GS 121 CV cm 250/300 GS 250 cm 285/400, while for other models it is available on request. This sealing system renders the rotor rotation areas completely watertight, preventing the ingress of water, mud or dust in these parts. This system enables the machine to be used on waterlogged, muddy or dusty ground without risk of damage. Side disc coulters The function of the coulters is to accurately delimit the working width and to increase it slightly (approximately 25 cm). The coulters are height adjustable to to facilitate adjustment of the working depth. They can also be retracted inward to reduce the transport width in compliance with highway code regulations. 33

Accessories Oil cooling system (only for GS250) On request, the GS 250 can be equipped with an oil cooling system for the transmission unit. This system is useful when the operating conditions are particularly heavy or for very high ambient temperatures, high unit rotation speeds and after many hours of continuous operation. Using this system reduces oil consumption, wear on the unit's mechanical parts and gaskets, and prevents the risk of overheating which can damage the transmission unit. The system consists of a forced ventilation heat exchanger powered at low voltage by the tractor's electrical system.
