3 SUN VALLEY TRIP Jun 30 July 3 Currnt plans for th trip ar to lav Sunday morning at 8:00 A.M. from th Hom Dpot parking lot 2100 S 300 Wst. From th Salt Lak ara w will travl to Logan UT and follow US-91 to Virginia ID. Thn w will travl I-15 to Pocatllo and hav a lunch brak at Buttrburs Rstaurant, 917 Yllowston Av. W thn will continu on I-15 to Blackfoot and turn onto US-26 until Arco. Turning thn onto ID-20 to th Cratrs of th Moon National Monumnt. Rturning to hom on Wdnsday, I plan on th straight lin mthod, south to I-84, onto I-15 and hom Hndrson Family Profil Part 1: Ann Hndrson I first mt Tom on a blind dat in Octobr of I had just graduatd from high school and h from th Univrsity of Utah. W wnt to a football gam at th U with a bunch of his fratrnity brothrs and thir dats. I was vry imprssd with him, and w had a grat tim. H calld m th nxt day and th nxt. H askd m out for th following Saturday night. Whn h cam to gt m h was driving a l956 whit Ford T-Bird with a continntal kit. I was VERY imprssd!! H lovd th car and it showd, as h took vry good car of it. A fw months latr h startd to work with his fathr in th Furnitur Industry and bcam a manufacturr s rprsntativ and ndd to travl. H purchasd a 1961 Ford Falcon Station Wagon that would gt good gas milag. I had to laugh vry tim h drov it bcaus it was just not Tom. H kpt th T-Bird and drov it whn h was in town. Tom livd nxt door to a girl who was dating a fllow that drov a gorgous black Big Haly. Just th sound of th motor mad his hart bat fast. H lovd British cars, but this xposur could hav mad him raliz that somtim in his lif that would b th ultimat car for him. W got marrid in 1962 and h sold th Bird to on of his bst frinds and I inhritd th frind s car, which was a vry basic 1956 Ford Fairlan. Aftr that I drov many cars, and vn cam hom from a trip with my family and h had sold a Corvair that I had bn driving, bcaus sombody wantd to buy it. I drov too many cars to nam, just bcaus Tom was always running across a dal or just wantd to hav a diffrnt car. Part 2 Marc Hndrson Whn I was just a littl boy, vry Saturday consistd of gtting up and scouring th classifid sction of th Nwspapr undr sports cars and Antiqu vhicls. W would look at th papr togthr circling th cram puffs as h calld thm in thos days and plannd on looking at thm latr in th day. Bfor th fun bgan, my fathr had a Saturday morning ritual of washing th family cars, gassing thm up, chcking all th fluids, changing th oil vry 2,500 mils (without fail). My job was to put Vaslin on- th nw filtr and carfully drain vry drop of oil from th oil quarts, cans in thos days, so not on drop was wastd. Dad was vry particular about th brand and wight of oil h usd, Pnnzoil 10W- 40 from Crus Oil. W would wash his car first, and thn mov on to my mothr s car. Both of us lovd washing and working on th cars EVERY Saturday. Thn onc that was don th ral fun bgan, looking at last half a dozn cars almost vry wknd. Dad lovd th automobil, in particular, Amrican sports cars (Ford Mustang only, no Chvrolts, and nvr a Chryslr product! Ha!), Europan (Porsch s and BMW s), howvr, h rally lovd th old British sports cars from th lat 50 s and arly 60 s, Haly s wr his first lov followd by MG as h drov on in collg.. H always had a story about somon h knw in collg that drov a T-Bird, Haly, MG, or a Triumph.. Ironically, I lovd xactly th sam typ of cars h did vn down to th yar, modl and colors! Th vry first car dad rstord was a 63 Ford Falcon Convrtibl. This was a supr cut car that h bought for my mothr as a daily drivr. Dad sold this car thr tims with th undrstanding that h would hav first right of rfusal to buy it back. And h did xactly that 3 tims ovr! Aftr th many yars of ownrs and mils, h bought back his cut littl Wimbldon Whit convrtibl back for th last tim, put it in Grandmas garag and told m h was going to mak this into a 3 P a g

4 cram puff som day. And that is xactly what w did ovr th nxt yar! Thn cam th 68 Ford Bronco that mom drov from th tim I was in 2 nd grad through my High School days. Dad and I rstord that car to prfction and it won first plac in its class at th Concours D Elganc in During this span of 11 yars dad purchasd numrous cars, MG s, Sunbams, Porsch s, Alfa Romo s, a rar Grman car calld a Glas, and I cannot rmmbr what ls! Dad was buying, rstoring and slling with m at his sid to gt to our goals.i wantd a 1966 Mustang Fastback K cod and dad wantd a lat Austin Haly 3000 Mark III, modl BJ8, phas 2. W finally had som mony put away from all thos rstorations (my fathr would sll any car if h could mak a profit). I was a hoardr, falling in lov with thm all and nvr wanting to sll. Dad would always rmind m of our goal and to gt thr w ndd to sll thm. Ironically aftr yars of looking vry wknd, looking and looking, to no avail, my dad got a call in th Fall of 1989 from on of his clints in Orm who had com across a Colorado Rd 1966 Austin Haly Mark III BJ8 Phas 2 that was for sal. Luckily for us h was in th middl of a rstoration on a 1958 Porsch Spdstr and th Big Haly ndd a bit mor work and mony that h wantd to put forth. Immdiatly Dad calld m and w racd to Orm to look at this incrdibl find. W wr both so vry xcitd that I could not think of anothr thing! W could not gt thr fast nough! Whn w arrivd th car lookd good from afar, but was far from good whn w got up clos. It was th right color as w both wantd a Colorado Rd Haly at th tim. Aftr som inspction, th ownr had put a compltly balancd and bluprintd motor with $4,000 in rcipts (back thn) in a chassis that ndd a complt intrior and xtrior rstoration! Howvr, it was th right color, yar and th numbrs matchd, vrything was thr!! Aftr 20 minuts of furthr inspction, I wnt from bing cstatic to bing only modratly xcitd, Dad howvr got vn mor xcitd and said this is no big dal to bring back as I was looking at th drivrs floorboard and saw th cmnt blow. I thn lookd at th front nd and th drivrs sid was all jackd up, it had bn in a fndr bndr or two ovr th yars. Th ownr told m th car had bn racd by its prvious ownr and h had plans to do th sam. What kind of monky would put a brand nw motor in a car that was in that kind of cosmtic condition? Furthr, th intrior and top wr trashd! Dad had far mor confidnc and faith in himslf that I did in my abilitis that was for sur! H rally could do anything with his hands and I think h lovd th challng! My dad was abl to gt him down wll blow th pric h had invstd in rbuilding th motor! Guss that is why I am still not marrid, who wants a divorc. Thank god this guy lovd womn as much as cars. W brought th car hom th nxt wknd and had plannd on starting th rstoration in th spring of As th wintr passd, w wr gtting rady to start this hug undrtaking and Dad got a call from our dntist in arly spring. Our dntist was and still is a car nthusiast with grat tast in cars. H told my fathr that h found a vry rar 1966 Ford Mustang fastback K cod that was 100 corrct with matching numbrs. It was th prfct car to rstor as it had almost no rust and th motor was don, ndd som intrior work, dtailing and som minor mchanical work. Anothr hug strok of luck, our dntist wantd to buy it for his collction but did not hav th room at th tim so h calld us as h knw I was looking for that xact car. Thank god h calld us first. I rmmbr this lik it was ystrday, Dad calld m at work and said, drop vrything and rac ovr to a hous in Sandy this could b th on you ar looking for! I was mor xcitd that h was whn I arrivd. H told m to calm down, act not so intrstd and h would do th talking and ngotiating. My job was to do th inspction to mak sur all th numbrs matchd. I had a nw whit polo golf shirt on at th tim; th only thing lft for m to do was s if th transmission numbrs matchd. Dad said gt down and gts your butt undr th car chck it out. It did just that. Wholly cow! Th numbrs all matchd, and ys my polo shirt was covrd with gras and bcam a shop towl aftr that day. Dad workd his ngotiating magic onc again and somhow got th car for thousands lss than this guy wantd. Wow, w both had our dram cars aftr a dcad and a half of buying, rstoring and slling. Ok, back to th Haly story, aftr all isn t that what w ar supposd to b writing about? By th way, sinc th Mustang ndd so littl work, w startd and finishd that car in tim for th Fall Concours D Elganc show in Sptmbr of 1990, and took first plac in th class!). As 1990 cam to an nd, I was offrd a full tim job out of collg, and my dad s businss startd to rally tak off. I dov had first and Dad grw th family businss for th nxt 10 yars. W finally savd up nough mony to div into th Haly rstoration which bgan on March 11 th It was my job to do th 4 P a g

5 tardown and labl all th parts and put thm in bags. In all my yars of working on cars, I hav nvr EVER sn so many parts, th Haly was lik a jigsaw puzzl or an rctor st, both on vrything, I rmmbr tlling my dad, w will nvr gt this (*&*&%&^$*% back togthr! Onc strippd, my dad workd a dal out with Will Jamson to bring th chassis down, put it on a hoist and start claning, dgrasing and sanding. Dad also connd Will into hlping us do all th lctrical and hlp put th motor back in. Dad thn workd a dal with Malcolm Athrton to do all th body work. I cannot bliv that w ar all still frinds! Will thought h would nvr gt th car ovr to th body shop and my dad kpt adding on mor littl projct aftr anothr. W finally got it ovr to Athrton for th body and paint. This was th first and for sur th last full body and paint job on a Haly Mal will vr do aftr what w put him through. Mal and my dad workd for days, wks, months and aftr a yar and a half, Mal said to my dad, gt that thing outta hr th rst of this dal is up to you and Marc to finish. So w brought it back ovr to Wills to put th motor and driv train back in th chassis and thn took it back to my dad s hous to start our portion of th jigsaw puzzl. W wr so vry mticulous and wantd th car to b as prfct and original as possibl in vry way. Paint color, intrior, whls, dash, instrumnts, motor, chrom, top, vry nut and bolt had to b rdon to factory spcs, just as it cam off th assmbly lin. Dad did absolutly vrything with incrdibl patinc and a vry mticulous y. Dad spnt so many hours in th garag working on th Haly that I finally purchasd walki talkis for him and Mom to sav gtting a divorc. My Mom practically wor out th pavmnt from th hous to th garag tlling him for th umptnth tim that dinnr was rady. H nvr complaind about an ovr cookd or cold mal. If h had it would hav bn a war. Dad workd diligntly for fiv yars to rstor th Haly to prfction. H had many hlprs ovr th yars, all of th Haly Club mmbrs, Mal Athrton, Will Jamson, Gorg Egan, of cours m, and many othrs. Our thanks to vryon. British Fild Day 2007 In Dcmbr of 2006 Dad was diagnosd with Pancratic Cancr, a hartbrakr to all of us. H was at a point in his lif that h could slow down and stop and smll th ross, njoy his cars and do lots mor tinkring. On th bright sid, now that th car was finishd (if you vr ar) h took th Haly to British Fild Days and had a good visit with Club mmbrs as wll as many frinds h had mad ovr th yars. W also took th car to th Concours at Thanksgiving Point in August of 2007, whr th car was awardd th Popl s Choic Award. This was a ral honor for Dad, and h crtainly dsrvd it. His hard work and patinc had rally paid off. Thanksgiving Point 2007 Th Haly and th Mustang ar both garagd with blankts and covrs ovr thm just as Dad would hav likd. This is somthing Dav Maxwll would not approv of, howvr w do plan on driving and njoying 5 P a g

6 ths vhicls in th nar futur. My whol family chrishs thos two cars and th Haly is a tru lgacy to Tom Hndrson, as it was his tru lov and mastr projct. In fact both Dad and I said it was on of th most challnging cars on th plant to rstor and that w had nvr sn a car with so d--- many parts. MILLION DOLLAR HIGHWAY TRIP At th crack of dawn on May 31 st, 2013, Dav and Sandy Maxwll, Doug and Ann Lwis and Craig and Carol Mossbrg dpartd from South Town Cntr. Th two Haly 3000s and th BJ9 hadd towards Colorado and a fun filld wknd. Th trip took us to Grand Junction, Colorado whr w stoppd for lunch. W thn hadd south for Ouray, Colorado. Grat mountain roads On Saturday morning, aftr a visit to Box Canyon Park and Cascad Falls, w hadd south towards Silvrton via th Million Dollar Highway also known as Highway 550. It is rally th twlv mils south of Ouray through th Uncompahgr Gorg to th summit of Rd Mountain Pass (11,120ft) that givs th highway its nam. This strtch through th gorg is challnging and wondrful for sports cars. It is charactrizd by stp cliffs, narrow lans, and a lack of guardrails; th ascnt of Rd Mountain Pass is markd with a numbr of hairpin curvs usd to gain lvation, and again, narrow lans for traffic many cut dirctly into th sids of mountains. Our cars prformd magnificntly. Th travlrs in Ouray Ouray bills itslf as th Switzrland of Colorado with grat justification. Th small town is nstld btwn stp cliffs and svral bautiful watrfalls ar visibl from Main Strt. W stayd at th Victorian Inn which w all agrd should b highly rcommndd to anyon travlling to Ouray. Th six hour driv and a stp walk to th main strt whttd our apptits for a dlicious Italian dinnr. Snidly Whiplash still xists 6 P a g

7 Our first stop was Silvrton for shopping and watching th arrival of th narrow gaug railroad train from Durango. W also managd to dplt th local invntory of Valvolin 20W50 Racing Oil. W thn hadd for Durango whr w lunchd at an 1880 s saloon and njoyd roaming through th Old Town sction. Latr in th aftrnoon, w lft for Cortz whr w had hotl rsrvations. Bing tird, w agrd to forgo a stop at Msa Vrd National Park. Aftr a vry tasty Mxican dinnr, w walkd to th Cortz Cultural Cntr for a Nativ Amrican danc xhibition Classic Sports Car Show & Tour July 27th from loam to 2pm Cars in plac by 9:30am On lowr Main Strt North of 7th Strt Park City, UT July 28th for th Tour Th BAHC Bonnvill Austin Haly Club & WMJR, Th Wasatch Mountain Jaguar Rgistr ar sponsoring th show again this yar. Also th British Motor Club of Utah mmbrs will b invitd as wll as anyon that wants to rgistr thir sports $12 ach until July 10 th aftr that th cost will incras to $15. Th maximum cars w can rgistr this yar will b 60 cars on a first com first srv basis, so gt your rsrvations in now. A Wasatch Back tour on Sunday will b ld by somon from th WMJR at no cost, dtails latr. Rally intrsting program On Sunday morning, w hadd back to Utah. W stoppd for lunch at th Moab Brwing Company and thn mad a short trip through th Archs National Park. At that point, th Mossbrg s rturnd to Salt Lak and th Maxwll s and th Lwis s procdd to Grn Rivr whr thy spnt th night bfor rturning hom. Although sparsly attndd, this was a grat club activity. Th Haly s wr mt with many Thumbs Ups from passing vhicls and many positiv commnts during our stops. W agrd th Ouray stop might b on th schdul for a club trip in Craig and Carol Mossbrg Plas snd m $12 pr car for ach car's rgistration attachd $15 aftr 7/10.
