1 2009 SPRING WHEAT VARIETY RECOMMENDATION MOTIONS 1) A motion to remove AgriPro Norpro from the spring wheat variety recommendation list, effective February Mr. Joe Smith of AgriPro has asked us to remove this variety from the recommendation list. 2) (Motion 2 submitted by Mr. Joe Anderson, AgriPro Wheat) A motion that AP604 CL hard red spring wheat be recommended for dryland areas in districts 1-6 in Montana 2009 VARIETAL RECOMMENDATION AP604 CL AgriPro requests that AP604 CL hard red spring wheat be considered for variety recommendation in the state of Montana. We suggest that AP604 CL be recommended for dryland areas in all crop reporting districts. AP604 CL is a hard red spring CLEARFIELD (CL) wheat bred and developed by AgriPro and released to AgriPro Associates in PVP was received in It was derived from a cross between two CL lines AP601 CL and AP602 CL. AP604 CL contains patented traits and will be managed under a Stewardship Agreement. It has exhibited good adaptation across the Northern Plains including the dryland spring wheat areas of Montana. This variety would provide growers using the CL production system with a solid choice for most growing conditions. Its strengths include good dryland performance and height, very high test weight and early maturity. AP604 CL has been tested in Montana State Trials (16 station years, Table 1-5) during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. It is a hollow stemmed variety that has white chaff at maturity. Its yields have been competitive compared to the check means across the dryland locations. Overall, its dryland yields have been similar to Outlook and slightly higher than McNeal. Test weight levels have been very high at one pound higher than Reeder. It was among the earliest lines in test at three days earlier than Reeder. Height is intermediate, two inches taller than Choteau but similar to Reeder. AP604 CL has intermediate protein. There have been limited disease observations in Montana. From testing in North Dakota, we have obtained some information. AP604 CL is moderately susceptible to leaf rust and fusarium head blight. It has fair tolerance to foliar disease pressures. A three year summary of North Dakota data is presented in Table 6. AP604 CL has acceptable overall breadmaking quality (Tables 7 and 8). 1
