10 Ongoing EU funded R+D+i Projects The Smart Rural Grid FP7 project ( aims to develop the smart grid in rural areas using novel smart grid technologies and associated business concepts. Intelligent Distribution Power Router (IDPR) with included electricity storage that enables electricity island operation and routing electricity flows. + generators (renewable and conventional) + controllable loads / consumer + energy storage + active grid assets (IDPR, tap control) + effective & intelligent communication systems + central and local software / control = smart rural grid Duration: Consortia Total Budget:
11 Ongoing EU funded R+D+i Projects The EMPOWER H2020 project - Local Electricity Retail Markets for Prosumer Smart Grid Power Services ( aims to encourage and enable the active participation in local energy exchange. To do so, the project is designing an ICT platform for facilitating local electricity trading. Community members will negotiate and trade contracts through a community controlled Smart Energy Service Provider (SESP) with the DSO, with their neighbours and other communities. The SESP offers services to all potential participants: consumers, producers, prosumers, community storage units, distribution system operators. 12 Ongoing EU funded R+D+i Projects The MEDOW Project Multi-terminal DC Grids for Offshore Wind ( Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) consisting of 11 partners (5 universities and 6 industrial organizations) with collective expertise on the manufacturing, design, operation, and control of multi-terminal DC grids. MEDOW s objectives are to find comprehensive solutions to the key techniques of DC grids for integrating renewable power and to remove the barriers to the interconnection of AC and DC grids. 12 Duration: Consortia Total Budget:
