Carbon Monoxide Information Houseboat engines and generators produce carbon monoxide; an odorless, deadly gas. Do not swim near exhaust portals at the rear or side of the boat. Swimmers should avoid the area under the houseboat swim platform or rear deck while engine or generator is running. Adults must watch children playing or swimming in platform area. Know the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning: headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, dry mouth, and confusion. Remember, carbon monoxide is odorless. If carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected, seek medical attention immediately. (call 911) About Carbon Monoxide Detectors If any carbon monoxide detector (C.O. detector) alarm goes off, there is a reason! Do not attempt to disengage any C.O. detector; they are there to save your life. The best way to avoid getting carbon monoxide into the cabin is to make sure that ALL windows and doors are closed if engine or generator is running. While the boat is underway, also keep in mind that anyone on the rear deck is susceptible to carbon monoxide poisoning. One way to properly silence a C.O. detector is to begin moving the boat, and open doors and windows to let fresh air flow through. After awhile, the C.O. detectors will clear themselves. Another way to properly silence a C.O. Detector (if you want to remain tied to the shore) is to shut down both engines then open the doors and windows. If there is a good breeze, this should work. Beware of station wagon effect. Driving with the back doors or windows open can cause the C.O. to be pulled into the boat. If you want the back doors open then you MUST have the front door open as well (to allow air flow).

Motor 3 Liter Volvo Penta Runs on Gasoline Prop driven Max RPM Cruise RPM RPM=2-3 GAL/HR 2000 RPM=4-5 GAL/HR 2500 RPM=5-6 GAL/HR RPM= OVER 7 GAL/HR Make sure there are no swimmers in the water To Start- Turn on bilge blower for 4 minutes Silence any background noise to hear the engine Make sure shifter is in neutral position Turn key to on position Press and release transfer button on throttle control, red light will become solid Press transfer button again, and move lever forward to the ahead position. Then, release button and the light will begin blinking For a cold start, move lever to full ahead and back to idle ahead. Then, about 1/3 forward. If the motor is warm it is not necessary to give the first pump Using your left hand on the key and your right hand on the throttle, turn the key until motor starts. Important: Do not allow the motor to over rev! Allow motor to warm up for 3 to 5 minutes at about 1500 RPM Move shifter back to neutral, then forward or reverse. To Transfer- Set throttle to the neutral position (Lined up with light) Go to top of boat and make sure throttle is in neutral position Press the transfer button on the bottom of the shift control. Once light is lit; you now have control from that position To Turn Off- Move throttle control to neutral Turn key to off position Note: NEVER shut off motor while throttling Remember- no swimming while motor is running!

Generator Westerbeke BTG Runs on gas from the main tanks Will run out of fuel before the main engine Burns about 1 Gal/hr Generator provides 110/220 volt power to: A/C system, 110 volt outlets/ GFI outlets, hot tub, microwave, trash compactor and battery charging Exhaust vents outside pontoons to reduce carbon monoxide Do not run overnight, it s dangerous! To start: Run bilge blower for 4 minutes Hold the on switch in the on position for 3 to 5 seconds Continue to hold the on switch in the on position while also holding the start switch in the start position (MAX 8 seconds. If unit fails to start, wait 1 minute and retry) When you hear the generator start, release the start switch while still holding the on switch in the on position for another 5 seconds To Stop: Press and hold stop switch until generator completely stops If Generator is running and boat is not charging, check the breaker on the generator; it may have been tripped

Batteries The batteries on our boats consist of the engine start battery, the generator start battery, and the house batteries. The system is designed so that no matter what, you can start the engine or the generator and not be affected by low house batteries. The engine charges itself. The generator charges its own start battery and, through the inverter, also charges the house batteries. It is important to understand how the system works. It is easiest to think of the batteries as a storage tank for all power in the boat. Anything that works in the boat with the generator turned off runs from this tank. This includes stereos, lights, bilge blowers, and many more devices. The generator is the source for filling this tank. If you are running a lot of energy out of the tank, it will take longer to refill. If in fact you are using enough of this energy, even with the generator running you can deplete the battery bank. The more you use, the more generator run time to expect. The time to recharge the batteries varies depending on the loads. If you have all the lights on and are running all inverter items, you may run down the batteries and never receive a full charge. As a general rule; after the batteries get to 14.6 volts, it will take another 2 hours of charging to be full. After this time, both voltage and amperage will drop and the charge sequence will be done. House batteries charges can be monitored at the inverter panel.. With the generator off, 12.6 volts is considered full and 11.9 volts is considered empty. That is an indicator that it is time to start the generator. Remember, before going to bed it s important to have a full charge to be sure your refrigerator will stay on all night volts + 2 hours = full charge

Propane Tanks Boats are equipped with four 9 gallon propane tanks located on the front deck of the boat. Propane Runs: Water Heater Cabin refrigerator (mirage 14 sleeper only) Stove/Oven Hot Tub Fireplace Leave valves on at all times (except in an emergency situation) Propane tanks should last the entire trip Average use is 6-8 gallons Important: Some propane odor can be expected from pressure relief of full tanks; especially in the heat from propane expansion. This happens periodically, and happens at the bottle location only.

Lake Water Pumps There are two 12 volt lake water pumps on the boat. They are located in the engine/generator compartment. Occasionally one pump may become air locked or over heat from excessive use. If you happen to get an air lock, you can open the engine/generator compartment and look for the switch labeled Lake Water Pump 1 and 2. Switch to the opposite side. If the pump that is currently selected is air locked (usually the case), turn on any faucet or deck hose and the pump will clear itself of air. This may take up to two minutes, so remember to shut off the faucet when the water starts flowing again. Air lock also occurs when the boat is in reverse and exhaust is propelled towards the water intake near the front of the engine/generator compartment. How to Unclog the Toilets The toilets on our boats are usually clogged by excessive toilet paper, the wrong paper (use only the paper we provide), or items that don t belong in the toilet, (feminine products, diapers, paper towels, etc.) If your toilet becomes clogged, go to the breaker panel and turn off the lake water pump on the 12 volt panel. (Thoroughbred boats also have a 120volt pump labeled Wash Down Pump located on the 120 volt panel, turn this off also). Next, get the plunger located under the bathroom sink, and hold down flush pedal and plunge as you would a standard toilet. Once you have verified that the blockage is clear, turn on the lake water pump(s) and flush it 2-3 times to help clear out any remaining debris.

Fresh Water A 60 gallon fresh water tank (200 gal. on thoroughbred boats) is supplied on each of Shasta Marina Resort s houseboats. This water is room temperature and is for drinking and cooking. The average fresh water use for the maximum occupancy on any Shasta Marina houseboat for 7-nights is roughly gallons. Depleting the fresh water tank is uncommon, but can happen. If you do happen to use all of your fresh water, any marina on Shasta Lake will fill the fresh water tank at no charge. Lake Water Lake water is for showering, washing dishes, and toilet flushing. It s supplied by a lake water pump that pulls water up from under the back deck approximately 6 feet under the surface of the water. The lake water is ran through a sediment filter and then supplied to the water faucets, toilets, and showers. All water faucets are labeled either Fresh Water or Lake Water. Be aware of any debris that may be in water or lake, as it may get pumped into the system and plug it. Occasionally, either pump may develop a small leak which can cause the pump(s) to cycle. Normally, his is not a problem until everyone goes to sleep and you can hear the pump cycling. In which case you can just turn off the breaker until morning. Air Conditioner If windows/doors are left open, the air conditioner will freeze over and quit working.

Never set thermostat below 72 degrees. The unit will not be able to cycle on/off and will freeze over. Gas Refrigerators The two cabin refrigerators on this boat are absorption refrigerators, meaning they run on propane gas. There are certain practices that need to be followed for the refrigerators to operate at maximum performance. Upper deck refrigerator is a standard refrigerator, which means it runs off of the inverter circuit. 1. When you initially load your refrigerator upon your arrival keep in mind, refrigerators are NOT made to cool food they are made to keep cold food cold. Therefore all room temperature food and drinks should be pre-cooled with ice before they are placed in the refrigerator. Otherwise all of your food in the refrigerator may be subject to spoil. However, placing freshly cooked food for later use is okay assuming the rest of the items in the refrigerator are already cooled. 2. Make sure there are no items in the refrigerator that will keep the doors from latching and sealing. Keeping the doors shut as much as possible will greatly improve performance. 3. Do not over-fill the freezer or refrigerator; cold air needs to circulate throughout the unit. 4. Make sure you start your trip with enough ice to cool your food and to put in your drinks. 5. Remember your refrigerators use propane and the house batteries, so make sure the batteries are charged before going to bed, so the refrigerators will stay on all night.

Magnum Inverter Provides 120 VAC to some appliances when Gen. is off Provides 12 VDC to charge house batteries when Gen is on When the generator is running, the inverter allows 120 volt power to run to the appliances on the inverter circuits. The extra power is then used for battery charging. The more appliances running on the inverter, the less battery charging will take place. If the loads are too high, the breaker for the inverter may trip. This usually occurs in the mornings and involves coffee makers or toasters. When the generator is first started, the LED display will show bulk charging and show battery volts and the charge amperage. When the batteries have reached 14.5 volts, the LED display will show absorption charging. The voltage will remain steady and the amperage will start dropping. It will remain here for a preset time then will switch to float charging. The battery volts will drop to and the amperage will be low. At this time the batteries are 95% charged, and it is okay to stop charging. The display also has small lights to verify operation located on the left side of the panel. The top is power in and should be on when the generator is running (below this is a fault indicator). The next light down is for charging, and the bottom light is for inverting. These lights go out after a few minutes, but by pressing the knob in the lower right they will come back on. If either the charge or invert lights are off, they can be turned on by pressing the buttons below. If the power light isn t on, check the inverter breaker and the breaker on the generator. When the generator is off, the inverter supplies 120 volt power from the house batteries. The LED display will then show battery volts and amperage drawn. Remember, however, that all systems that work with the generator off are drawing from the house batteries and this display only shows what the inverter is taking. It is critical to monitor your battery voltage. This is like a fuel tank for power, and if you are drawing too much you can exceed the available charge. We recommend not going below 11.7 volts. At 10.5 volts the system may shut down and we will need to make a service call to restart it. It is important to note that as batteries drain, they take longer to recharge. If you have any issues with this system, please call us. In most cases we can talk you through any problems.

Xantrex Inverter Provides 110 volt AC to some appliances when generator is off Provides 12 volt DC to charge house batteries when gen is on When the generator is running, the inverter allows 110 volt power to go to the appliances on the inverter circuits. The extra power is then used for battery charging. The more loads on the inverter, the less battery charging will take place. When receiving 110 volts, the AC IN light will be on, the charge light will be on, and the LED bars will show battery volts and charge rate. It is normal for the battery condition to go to low as the inverter starts charging. The invert light should blink slowly, indicating power is passing through. When the generator is off, the inverter supplies 110 AC from the 12volt house batteries. The LED bars now show battery volts and amps drawn. The invert light should be on steadily. If not, press the invert button and the light should stay on. The last button to mention is the power share button. This should always be left in the 30 position. If you need to reset it press power share until you get it to 30. It is critical to monitor battery voltage. Voltage is like a fuel tank for power. We recommend not going below 11.9 volts. At 10.5 volts the system may shut down, and we will need to make a service call to restart it. Also, it is important to note that as batteries drain it takes longer to recharge. To reach a full charge, the batteries need to get to 14.6 volts for about 2 hours. This can also be monitored on the inverter panel by observing the battery state indicators. With the generator off, they tell you how much power is available and with the generator running they show how the charge is going. If you should encounter any problems with this system, please call us. In most cases we can talk you through any problems.

Hot Tub Operation Generator must be running Jet pump must be on Feel for heat from exhaust (Do Not Cover- exhaust must be clear) To Add Water: Boat must not be underway, turn timer dial up a few minutes only Do Not Drain Hot Tub as it will fill holding tanks. If service is desired, return boat to Shasta Marina Resort and we will be happy to help. Tub water should last without servicing during trip. It is suggested that you stay in the hot tub no longer than 15 minutes at a time to avoid hypothermia The water in the hot tub is treated with bromine Hot Tub Rules No Shoes No Cutoffs No Fish Children Accompanied by an adult

Make Sure To Re-Tie Everyday as Water Level Changes Correct Incorrect

Incorrect Trash compactor must be in normal mode to compact garbage; in this mode the plunger will raise automatically. In lock mode the plunger will go down and stay, this is useful if the waste bin is almost full and you want to keep adding more garbage. Keep in mind that the plunger only goes half way down in to the waste bin, so you will need to fill the bin before it can begin to compact garbage. If the waste bin will not open, it may be in lock mode. If lock mode occurs, switch to normal mode and cycle plunger by turning knob. 14

Check Out Procedures Boats are due into the marina between 9:00-10:00 AM. Call marina when you are at the O Brien Inlet Sign. Once you are outside the marina one of our employees will come to the boat and drive it to the dock for you. Please have your luggage ready to be unloaded and have the back deck clear for refueling. The boat should be cleaned before you return to the dock. Once the boat has arrived on the dock, our staff will do a walk-through to check for damages. All dishes and appliances should be cleaned and put back into their proper spots. Once the boat is unloaded, checked for damages, and refueled, the captain of the boat will be given the fuel total which is to be paid for in the store. You will then be given a carbon copy of your return sheet with your fuel totals and a receipt of your payment. After you have left the marina, be sure to stop in at the Office to get your deposit refunded.
