2 The gaustec WHIMS Introduction allmineral world leader in jigging technology has signed a Cooperation Agreement with Gaustec Magnetismo Ltda. Brazil in 2006, to market the gaustec Magnetic Separator WHIMS type (Wet High Intensity Magnetic Separator) on a worldwide basis. This equipment has been designed and improved by skilled engineers based on their practical experience of more than 20 years. Several features introduced to the standard equipment led to the best possible operational flexibility and easy maintenance. Leading Technology in Magnetic Separation A wide range of sizes starting from the smallest unit for research and process design applications (G340 Minimag), with a rated feed capacity of 0.3 t/h, to the biggest equipment of its kind ever constructed, the G 3600 with a rated feed capacity of 200 t/h is offered. 2 The gaustec WHIMS

3 gaustec Technology Wet High Intensity Magnetic Separator Separates ores and other paramagnetic and feebly magnetic minerals with a particle size up to 3 mm. Matrix is made of grooved plates. Vertical and unhindered flow through the matrix The high gradient magnetic field is independently adjustable for each rotor Rougher and cleaner scavenger process step possible in one single machine. 5 Innovations The key factor to keep the pace with the growing mining industries demands Main features introduced to the gaustec WHIMS that improve their performance beyond the known limits of Magnetic Separator Technology: 1. Magnetic Induction of each Rotor Independently adjustable. 2. The standard equipment is supplied with two AC/DC power supplies, one for each rotor. The high gradient magnetic field is independently adjustable for each rotor through AC/DC converters, in the operational ranges. This allows for rougher and cleaner scavenger process steps in one single machine. The coils that generate the magnetic field on the top and bottom rotor are fed electrically independent, making it possible to have the necessary magnetic induction on each rotor adjusted according to the operational needs. This feature is also of advantage from the maintenance point of view, since if one of the AC/DC power supplies fails the second power supply can supply energy to all coils of the machine maintaining the production in emergency status, until the necessary repair can be made. 6 gaustec Room between poles 3. Larger distance between magnetic poles One of the main restriction to make the maintenance in traditional WHIMS is the small distance between the rotors. This makes the maintenance of the bottom rotor like matrix inspection, cleaning, and retightening of the bolts, a tiresome and difficult task to perform. The gaustec Whims presents as one of its main features a comfortable room between rotors, making operation and maintenance of this equipment easy. 6 Room between poles

7 gaustec Adjustable Magnetic pole 4. Adjustment of the effective magnetic area of the magnetic poles Adjustable Pole Electrical energy saving is a must in the gaustec WHIMS design. The increasing demand to reach higher magnetic induction is an important factor as well. Looking for the wide application range the gaustec WHIMS is developed for, a new design of the magnetic poles has been introduced to achieve both: energy savings and higher magnetic inductions. 8 gaustec Adjustable Magnetic pole The pole size can be adjusted by simply adding respectiveley removing the yellow marked pole wedges. With a smaller pole one saves energy or can increase the magnetic field strength. With a wider pole the residence time can be increased leading to a higher separation efficiency. 9 gaustec Technology 5. Two process steps in one single machine Due to the independently adjustable magnetic fields for the two rotors a cleaner-scavenger process can be realised in a single machine. 11 gaustec The Minimag 6. Lab Scale Process Design with»minimag«for the process development for new ore types, allmineral offers the laboratory WHIMS G340»MINIMAG«. With a wide range of magnetic induction reaching fields of up to Gauss (1.7 Tesla), this equipment works with the real dynamic conditions of an industrial unit enabling the process engineer to safely develop his project. Four types of magnetic matrix, with its scale factor to larger equipments, are offered as standard design. Other type of matrix can be offered upon request. The Minimag The Minimag 11
