1 February-May VOLUME 43 TRACTORS SINGAPORE PROUDLY SUPPORTS ITS CUSTOMERS PARTICIPATING IN SINGAPORE'S CHANGI AIRPORT EXPANSION Preparing the groundworks of an airport for the future's expansion with Cat equipment Land preparation works on the expansion of Changi Airport has begun since the project was awarded in October Works include site clearance, ground treatment, strengthening of the ground for airport facilities and operations, and earthworks. The works are complex in nature and will be executed in 70-over phases across more than 1,000 hectares. Changi Airport's Terminal 5 (T5) along with a third runway will be built on reclaimed land; and will be Changi's biggest terminal. It will be connected to the existing terminals to allow the expanded Changi Airport to operate as a single, integrated airport for passenger convenience and airfield operational efficiency. The terminal will also be connected to the MRT network. Work will be completed over the next several years, resulting in a terminal that will be able to process up to 50 million passengers a year, which is more than T2 and T3 put together. The project is the most substantial since the airport was moved from Paya Lebar to Changi in Works to widen the existing Tanah Merah Coast Road, as well as to construct a new road between Tanah Merah Coast Road and Aviation Park Road, are underway. The new road will replace the existing Changi Coast Road, which

will be expunged to create a contiguous airfield between the current airport and the future T5.

REACHING FOR THE SKY WITH CAT STANDBY POWER SUPPLIED BY THE CHINA ENGINEERS LTD Set to be billed the tallest building in Shenzhen when completed in 2016, Shenzhen's Ping An International Finance Center (Ping An IFC) is an ultra-modern, mega-tall office/commercial building. It stands over 600 metres high with 116 stories on the ground and 5 underground, with a total construction area of 480,000 square meters. The Ping An IFC is owned by China's Ping An Insurance Group Co Ltd which self-funded this RMB 10 billion complex. The form and structure of the tower symbolize the Group's image (Ping An is the combination of the Chinese characters for peace and safety); has a sustainable and efficient design whilst evoking the pioneering spirit of the city. As one of the most iconic buildings in Shenzhen, its construction height and value proposition for the commercial business and office space determine stringent requirements for the security, reliability, flexibility and economy of the electric power supply system. As the diesel generator sets required will be used mainly for standby power, as a temporary protective measure for uninterrupted grid power supply, its line loss cost is not the focus of the owners' primary consideration. The FiT system obliges Distribution Licensees (DLs) to buy from Feed-in Holders (FiAHs) the electricity produced from renewable energy and sets the FiT rate. The DLs will pay for renewable energy supplied to the electricity grid for a specific duration. By guaranteeing access to the grid and setting a favourable price per unit of renewable

energy, the FiT mechanism ensures that renewable energy becomes a viable and sound long-term investment for companies, industries and individuals.

Mr Tan Foo Boon of Tenaga Tiub SB shared his experience as a biogas plant developer and technology provider that had worked hand in hand with SDIPSD s palm oil plantation customer to build the biogas plant with a Cat biogas genset.
