Eurobalise Tests at LIF: Conclusions All the existing eurobalises and BTMs have been tested during the campaign. Some of the tested equipments are not fully compliant with the specs. The related suppliers have started the development of a new product. After analysing the interoperability demonstration tests, it can be assured the goodness of the specs: 1) All the compliant Balises and BTMs are interoperable. 2) When Specsa OK! constituent is not fully compliant some interoperability tests have failed. Notify Bodies have participated in an active way in order to know the correct way of certifying balises and BTMs. LIF has demonstrated his ability to perform this certification tests.
2.2 Eurocab Tests at LIF: European EVC Test and Debugging Campaign. 1. Main Objectives 1. Harmonisation and consolidation of the SRS interpretations adopted by each company. 2. Debugging of the On Board Unit Test Sequences ( Subset 076) in a neutral Lab (LIF-CEDEX). 3. Definition of all needed interfaces for testing EVCs 4. Debugging and validation of CEDEX- Eurocab Lab tools. 5. Participation of the NoBos to know the way of testing an EVC for certification. 6. DMI harmonisation.

2.2 EVC Tests at LIF : First conclusions. 1. Remarkable differences among the DMIs from various companies: : Different menus, presentation and messages 2. Divergent SRS interpretations (already reported to each company and started to be solved during a UNISIG common meeting (Nov 30 th 2004). 3. EVC malfunctioning. Wrong implementation of some requirements. 4. L2 tests were interrupted due to different implementations of the Euroradio protocol. After a common UNISIG agreement (October 2004) tests were restarted. LIF staff have checked the conformity of all EVCs with the common interpretation. 5. Differences in messages stored in the JRU (JRU Unisig WG is already working with CEDEX staff to solve the inconsistencies found in the JRUspecs ).
DMI Harmonization 1. A document showing the main differences among the DMIs were generated by CEDEX staff. 2. This document compares each specific implementation with the DMI document distributed by the Users Group (Operational DMI Information. May 2004). 3. An Spanish group led by RENFE (with CEDEX participation) have written down a proposal trying to harmonize the most significant differences observed during the EVC Test campaign. 4. This proposal was presented in Madrid on October 28 th 2004 to the ERTMS Users Group and CENELEC DMI group. It is a first step in the way of harmonizing the DMI.
2.3 ETCS Tests on the track: Madrid-Lérida HSL.
2.3 ETCS Tests on the track: Madrid-Lérida HSL. ERTMS Tests at Madrid-Lérida HSL are being performed from June 2003 with Talgo-BTS(Siemens EVC), Alstom and Ansaldo trains. CEDEX is participating on behalf of RENFE in the independent evaluation of the tests. Some of the test scenarios were run first at LIF-Eurocab lab. Different specs interpretations appeared during these tests were solved before going to the real track. Test are evaluated both by analysing the data downloaded from the JRU ( by means of the tool developed at LIF) and also by the recording from the DMI. The behaviour of the tested EVCs is good enough. Real interoperability is being tested.
3.- General Conclusions I 1. CEDEX is the first neutral and independent laboratory able to perform interoperability tests among all the European suppliers. 2. LIF is currently performing tests on Eurobalises, Antenna+BTM and EVCs from all the European suppliers. 3. These test campaigns, supported by the ERTMS Users Group, are solving different interpretations of the specifications adopted by each UNISIG company. 4. ETCS tests at LIF have helped to consolidate the Eurobalise Specs(036 and 085). It is the first time that Unisig System Test Specs(076) have been run in a neutral Lab.
3.- General Conclusions II 5. The existence of neutral forums as LIF is becoming quite important to assure the convergence among the different companies during the process of ERTMS consolidation. 6. It has been shown the importance of reproducing a real line in the lab before testing on the track. The later good behaviour of the EVCs on the track has demonstrated that real interoperability can be achieved faster by performing these lab tests. 7. The existence of neutral and reference labs as LIF should be extended to other European countries. 8. Notify Bodies should use these neutral labs to perform the certification tests for all the ERTMS constituents and subsystems.
