Welcome mmett Avenue Reconstruction Road Reconstruction and Water Service Upgrading Public Open House Wednesday, March 27, p.m. to 8 p.m. Humber High School 100 mmett Avenue mmett Avenue - Open House Panels.docx1 1
Purpose This open house provides members of the community with an opportunity to learn about this project: Preview the design drawings Understand the basic construction process Discuss how temporary disruptions will be addressed Provide comments to the City The project team invites residents to ask questions and discuss the project and related issues mmett Avenue - Open House Panels.docx1 2
Background mmett is classified as a local road under the City s Road Classification System. It carries less than 2500 vehicles a day. mmett Avenue has deteriorated to the point where reconstruction is required to correct drainage problems and upgrade the road surface. This project has been included in the 2013 Toronto Transportation Capital Budget mmett Avenue - Open House Panels.docx1 3
Road Classification Local Roads Provide access to property Less than 2,500 vehicles per day Low traffic speed o bus routes Sidewalks on at least one side of road Low priority for winter maintenance Collector Roads Provide access to property and traffic movement 2,500 to 8,000 vehicles per day Less than 1,500 bus (or streetcar) passenger per day Signalized intersections at arterial roads Sidewalks on both sides of the road Medium priority for winter maintenance Minor Arterial Roads Traffic movement is a primary function 8,000 to 20,000 vehicles per day 1,500 to 5,000 bus passenger per day Speed limits 40 to 60 km/hr o Stop signs; main intersections controlled by traffic signals Sidewalks on both sides; may have bicycle lanes High priority of winter maintenance Major Arterial Roads Traffic movement is a primary function Subject to access controls Greater than 20,000 vehicles per day Greater than 5,000 bus passengers per day Speed limits 50 to 60 km/hr Sidewalks on both sides; may have bicycle lanes High priority of winter maintenance Toronto xpressway Traffic movement is a primary function o property access Speed limits 80 to 100 km/hr o local transit service Pedestrians and cyclists prohibited Grade-separated intersections (no traffic signals) Highest priority of winter maintenance Stanmills Road lmhurst Drive Gerrard Street ast Yonge Street F.G. Gardner xpressway mmett Avenue - Open House Panels.docx1 4
Scope of Work struction is planned for June to ovember 2013 Road Reconstruction Includes: xcavation of the existing road structure and replacement with granular materials followed by asphalt paving struction of new curb and gutter including subdrain pipe below Repair of existing sidewalks ew sidewalks from o. 50 mmett Avenue (existing sidewalk currently terminates at this location) south to York Humber High school. Grading, topsoil and sod for boulevards Restoration for any portions of disturbed driveways and roadway connections to sidestreets Upgrade of TTC stops and shelters Underground Infrastructure Renewal: Any water services that are found to be substandard will be replaced between the watermain and front property line mmett Avenue - Open House Panels.docx1 5
What s ew Road redesign of mmett Avenue The existing roadway will be reduced from the existing width 9.8 metres to 8.5 metres. This City standard width improves safety for both pedestrians and motorists and provides new parking opportunities Adjustment of existing or addition of new catchbasins in the new roadway to intercept storm drainage. The roadway pavement will be graded to direct storm drainage down the street and away from driveways Reconfiguration of On-Street Parking Providing parallel on-street parking to enhance safety for both pedestrians and motorists The number of parking spots on mmett Avenue is not expected to change Additional green space to provide more tree planting opportunities mmett Avenue - Open House Panels.docx1 6
mmett Avenue - Open House Panels.docx1 7
Disruptions During construction, sections of mmett Avenue will be reduced to one lane of traffic. Roadway access will be maintained for emergency vehicles all the time. From time to time access to driveways may be interrupted to allow curb work and road building to take place. If water service upgrade is required, water supply to that house will be disrupted. The contractor will give 24 hour notice for any service disruptions. The City suggests that any front yard landscaping and driveway repaving wait until after the construction work is completed. ormal garbage and recycling schedules will be maintained mmett Avenue - Open House Panels.docx1 8
Please take the opportunity to ask questions of the project team today. Comment forms are available at the registration table. tact Us You can also contact the project manager directly: Irfan Arab, P. ng.
