2 Project Purpose Purpose of the Project The purpose of the proposed is to improve public transit service and mobility in the Exposition Corridor between Culver City and Santa Monica. Phase 2 would extend the benefits of the Phase 1 Exposition Corridor Light Rail Project (currently under construction) beyond its currently planned terminus in Culver City to a terminus station in Santa Monica.

6 What is Light Rail Transit? Light rail trains are electric powered vehicles that operate primarily on exclusive rights of way. Light rail transit (LRT) sometimes travels on streets with vehicular traffic Electric powered vehicles provide smooth rides and do not create air pollution They are convenient and avoid traffic congestion through right of way separation and traffic signal priority

7 What is Bus Rapid Transit? Bus rapid transit (BRT) combines the quality of rail transit and the flexibility of buses. A BRT system may combine some or all of the following elements: Frequent service Limited stops Traffic signal priority Advanced passenger information systems Rapid and convenient fare collection High quality passenger facilities Travel in bus lanes, HOV lanes, expressways, or on ordinary streets

11 What is Scoping? Scoping: The process of determining the focus and content (scope) of an environmental document Scoping does not result in the ultimate decision or selection of an alternative The Purpose of Scoping: Define key issues to be evaluated in the environmental document Identify potential project alternatives to be studied Propose possible mitigation measures to be evaluated to reduce impacts
