1 EE069: Electrical Engineering for Non-Electrical Engineers EE069 Rev.002 CMCT COURSE OUTLINE Page 1 of 5
2 Training Description: This course introduces the Basic Principles of Electricity in a simple, easy to understand format. Participants will learn how to determine Voltage, Current, Power and Power Factor using two alternate methods: straight-forward, common calculations, as well as charts and tables. Practical examples of Electrical Applications in Industrial settings are provided. The course also covers Electrical Equipment, Components, Devices and Test Instrumentation, as well as important Electrical Safety Concepts. Cross-discipline analogies are used from Mechanical, Hydraulics and Civil Engineering, where applicable, to better illustrate the fundamental concepts of electrical engineering. This course is for individuals who would like to gain a thorough understanding of all the principles of Electrical Engineering in a simple and easy to grasp format and will cover all disciplines of Electrical Engineering including Alternating Current Systems, Direct Current Systems, Magnetism, Power Equipment, Switchgear, and Protective Equipment without Relying on Complex Mathematics. It will be taught in an easy to understand manner by demonstrating practical examples of applied Electrical Engineering through illustrated case studies and will also provide a comprehensive understanding of the operation and maintenance of all essential Electrical Equipment including the various types of Transformers, Inverters, Rectifiers, Motors, Variable Frequency Drives, Uninterruptible Power Systems, Generators, Excitation Systems, Circuit Breakers, Fuses and Electrical Accessories which associated with main Electrical Machines. Training Objective: By the end of the training, participants will be able to: Know the Basic Electrical Parameters (Voltage, Current, Resistance), their units of measurement (Volts, Amperes, Ohms) and inter-relationship (Ohms Law) Be able to relate these parameters to the Basic Electrical Circuit and Series and Parallel Circuit configurations Understand difference between continuity and insulation resistance; calculate Power and Energy consumption Understand the characteristics of and differences between direct current (D.C.) and alternating current (A.C.) Understand the need for Electrical Protection, the types of abnormal condition for which protection is required, the types of protective device available for use and method of operation Understand the need for and difference between switching and isolation, including the characteristics of such devices and the importance of correct polarity Electrical Control System; i.e. Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Control Diagram, Drives, Sensors and examples of Automation Systems Training Designed for: The course is designed for any individual seeking an in-depth knowledge of all the principles and practices of Electrical Engineering as well as Electrical Equipment.
