39 Harvest / Safety Stewardship Flory Industries, Inc. encourages the owners and operators of all equipment to be safe and courteous. Some equipment will generate dust and /or flying debris. Please be aware of near by traffic and road conditions. Be especially careful when maneuvering at row ends and turning onto public roads. Operators should always take great care so as not to obscure drivers vision on public roads with dust discharge. All operators should be informed about safe and courteous operation, especially in highly populated and urban areas. Operators should also consider such things as wind speed, wind direction, etc. Here are some suggestions that will help to reduce risk and allow you to have a safe and friendly harvest: When sweeping, try to keep from blowing dust onto the roadway whenever possible. When harvesting or conditioning parallel to a road, keep fan discharge pointed toward orchard. This might mean making several deadhead passes. Do the first three rows this way if possible. When harvesting or conditioning in a traffic area, slow down forward speed and the engine RPM. These two items will greatly reduce the dust generated. The product will have a little more trash but it will be hardly noticeable. When working along a roadway put up CAUTION signs warning drivers of dust in the area. When moving equipment on the road, install yellow flashing lights that warn other drivers of a slow moving vehicle Always display the SMV (Slow Moving Vehicle) sign when traveling on public roads. The law requires this to be displayed when moving at speeds below 25 MPH. This sign is to be removed when the machine is being transported on a trailer, if the sign is visible from behind. Environmental Stewardship Flory Industries, Inc. is aware that harvesting of tree nuts can be a very dusty operation. In an effort to be as friendly as possible to our neighbors and environment, we recommend a few dust control measures: SWEEPER: Always make sure that the sweeping head is adjusted properly so as to sweep the nuts, but not put excessive dirt in the windrow that must be picked up later by the harvester. It is not necessary to run the sweeper engine at full throttle if satisfactory blowing results can be obtained at reduced engine speed. Lower engine RPM means less dust being generated. Use a minimum number of sweeping and blowing passes. Sometimes an extra pass for a few nuts costs more in labor and fuel than the value of the nuts, plus the additional dust that was made. HARVESTER: While the harvester will pick up nuts at a very fast ground speed, it has been demonstrated that a reduced ground speed will produce less dust and deposit a cleaner product in the cart, with only a small overall increase in elapsed time, mainly because the harvester does not have to wait on an empty cart or Shuttle. CARTS: It is always advisable to keep the frequently traveled roadways sprinkled by a water truck to minimize the dust when transporting nuts out of the field to the road side elevator. 39

Identification The model and serial number plate is located on the center tube of the hitch assembly. Terms The terms right hand and left hand are in reference to standing at the front of the cart, facing forward. Improvements Flory Industries, Inc. is continually striving to improve its products. Always remember that behind safety shields where adjustments are made there are moving parts that demand respect and care. Before operating the cart, check to make sure that it has been serviced and that all adjustments have been properly made. Always replace and secure all safety shields before starting operation. Operator is to remain seated at all times while operating this machine. 3. Always shut off harvester or tractor engine, allowing all movement to stop before attempting to adjust, lubricate, or unclog the cart. 4. All personnel should be clear of the cart before starting or operating it. 5. Keep hands and loose clothing away from any power driven parts. 6. Do not operate this cart without all guards being in good condition and firmly in place. 7. Before working on or underneath the cart, lower jack stands at the front and rear of the cart. Block wheels securely to prevent cart from moving. 8. Do not modify or alter this cart from its original intended use. 9. Be sure cart is parked on flat, level surface, with wheels blocked, when not in use. 10. Never allow children to play on or around this equipment at any time 11. Never allow anyone to ride in the cart at any time for any reason! 12. Always display an SMV (Slow Moving Vehicle) sign when traveling on public roads. The law requires this to be displayed when moving at speeds below25 MPH. This sign is to be removed when the machine is being transported on a trailer, if the sign is visible from behind. 13. When towing this cart, always use a safety chain between the cart and towing vehicle. 14. It is recommended to also use the flashing caution lights when traveling on public roads. WARRANTY DETAIL 1. For a period of twelve months dating from delivery of machine to original purchaser, Flory Industries warrants that each piece of new equipment manufactured by it shall be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. Flory s obligation under this warranty being limited to making good at it s factory any part or parts thereof which shall, within or during the first twelve months from date of delivery to original purchaser, be returned to Flory and which at Flory s examination shall disclose to it s satisfaction to have been defective. This warranty being expressly in lieu of all other warranties expressed or implied and all other obligations or liabilities on Flory s part. Flory neither assumes nor authorizes any other person to assume for it any other liability in connection with the sale of this equipment. This warranty shall not apply to any equipment which may have been repaired or altered outside of its factory. Flory makes no guarantee whatsoever in respect to tires, rims, motors, controls, clutches or other trade accessories inasmuch as they are guaranteed separately by their respective manufacturers. 2. Flory Industries will allow credit for removing and replacing defective parts covered by warranty. The time allowed will be based on our knowledge of the time required. No allowance will be made for travel time. 3. All claims must be completed and filed with Flory Industries within 30 days after date of failure. 4. Parts claimed to be defective must be returned, transportation pre-paid to Flory Industries, and accompanied by the completed Warranty Claim and proper identification. 42

45 OPERATION Pre-start Inspection Although adjustments are not necessary daily, the operator should inspect the cart routinely. Open the safety shields and inspection covers to check chain idlers and adjustments. Always replace and secure all safety shields before starting operation. Never attempt to service or adjust the cart while the harvester or tractor engine is running. Hydraulic Power Requirements The 1395C Cart is designed to operate with gallons per minute flow to achieve optimum performance and unloading time. It will operate with less flow, however performance will be reduced. Connecting to Harvester Due to the heavy tongue condition of a loaded cart, do not use this cart with swinging hydraulic hitches that are attached to the harvester elevator. When connecting cart to harvester, be certain cart hitch is compatible with hitch on harvester. If using standard single or double lip hitches, make certain hitch on the harvester is not the same type as cart. Do not use both single lip or both double lip hitches on both the harvester and cart, as this may cause hitch pin to become bent and bind. Make certain that the hydraulic hoses are connected to proper ports to achieve correct rotation of stick remover chain and unloading chain. Make certain that the safety chain is securely attached to harvester. Be certain hydraulic hoses are disconnected, and jack stands are down when unhooking cart from harvester. When crossing levees or entering fields, approach at gradual angles rather than perpendicular, to prevent harvester elevator from dipping into cart augers. 45

46 OPERATION Loading / Unloading When the product being loaded into cart approaches maximum capacity of the cart, pay special attention to the stick chain return side, to avoid overfilling the cart and spilling nuts onto the ground. When unloading the cart, be certain all vehicle drivers are communicating clearly, to avoid spilling nuts on the ground or potential injuries to operators. To achieve minimum unloading time, operate the harvester at full throttle while unloading. Always set parking brake on harvester or tractor when unloading!! 46

47 ADJUSTMENTS Unloader Chain The unloader chain is tensioned by means of adjusting bolts, located at the lower front of the cart, on each side. To tighten the chain, loosen the jam nuts on the adjusting bolts, and tighten to desired tension. Re-tighten jam nuts when finished tensioning. Should it become necessary to remove the chain, always wear gloves, and be aware of pinch points when handling. Unloader Chain Drive The unloader chain is powered by a hydraulic motor mounted on the right side of the elevator assembly, and a roller chain drive from the motor to the shaft. It is necessary to periodically adjust this roller chain to ensure satisfactory performance. To adjust the roller chain, open the shield and adjust the chain idler as needed. Hitch The 1395C Cart is available with a standard, single lip hitch. Consult the factory for any other hitch options that may be available. The hitch may be adjusted up or down in the mounting channel on the front of the cart, to maintain adequate clearance between the bottom of the elevator on the harvester, and the augers on the cart. Seals The outer edges of the unloader chain (roller chain) area are protected by rubber and plastic seals to prevent nuts from being lost along the sides, or being destroyed by the drive sprockets. These seals should be inspected regularly and maintained in good condition to avoid losing nuts. 47

48 MAINTENANCE Unloader Chain As the unloader chain wears it may become necessary to remove links from the chain to maintain proper tension. Proper tension is important in order to maintain good chain and sprocket life. Do not over tighten!! Shorten the chain using the following procedure: 1. Remove the unloader chain support brackets with the UHMW guides from the bottom of the tank, allowing the chain assembly to sag toward the ground. 2. Loosen the take-up bolts at the front of the cart to minimum position on each side of conveyor and remove the drive chain from the hydraulic motor. 3. Locate the connector links on the unloader chain by manually turning it so that they appear at the bottom, near the ground, for easy service access. Remove cotter pins from the connector links and disconnect before cutting the lacing wire in the woven wire chain. Now, cut the lacing wire and separate the ends. 4. In order to maintain the proper sequence of links on the roller chain, it is necessary to remove two links from it. One of the two must have a slat (cross bar) welded to it. Remove cleat from the slat (cross bar). Grind off the heads of the roller pins and use a punch to remove. (see illustration below) Pickets - Use right or left as needed to re-assemble woven wire. Cleat Lacing Wire Roller Pin Roller Chain Slat 5. After removing the links described in step 2, connect the roller chains and determine the number of pickets to remove. Cut the lacing wire(s) and remove pickets. Re-assemble the woven wire chain, using replacement pickets and lacing wires. Note the right and left hand weave of the woven wire, and try to match the original patterns as close as possible. After the chain is re-assembled, tack weld ends of lacing wires to pickets. 6. Re-adjust chains as described in step 2. 48

49 Tires / Wheels MAINTENANCE Wheel lug nuts should be inspected after 10 hours of initial operation, then once per season or every 200 hours, whichever occurs first. Tire inflation should be checked seasonally, and maintained at 65 P.S.I. Wheel bearings should be re-packed once per season. Wear strips The unloader chain utilizes plastic wear strips on the elevator and conveyor inner framework assemblies, to provide a smooth surface for the drive chain to travel on. These wear strips should be inspected periodically and replaced as needed. 49

50 STICK REMOVER The 1395C Cart comes standard with a stick remover and a stick box that can be emptied from the operator station. Stick Cross Conveyor The stick cross conveyor belt delivers the sticks to the right side of the cart and into the stick box. Sticks can then be deposited at certain locations whenever the operator chooses. The cross conveyor belt delivers to the stick box only, but may be changed to deliver sticks to the other side of the cart and dropped directly to the ground (if desired) by switching the hydraulic hoses on the motor ports. It is necessary to periodically inspect and adjust the rubber belt for tension and alignment. Stick Chain The stick chain should be inspected and tensioned periodically. Do not over tighten the chain. The chain sags intentionally on the bottom side, to drag the product forward and fill the front of the cart. The chain is partially supported by (2) rubber rollers on each side at the top rear of the stick chain. These rollers may be adjusted up or down to increase or decrease the separating action of the chain by increasing or decreasing the vibrating action. A flow control valve located on the left rear corner of the cart is used regulate the speed of the stick chain. Adjust this speed according to crop type and yield, to obtain best performance. Relief pressure for the stick chain must be approx 1200 PSI (full flow) on the flow control valve. Note: Do not exceed this setting, as damage to the stick chain could result. Wear strips The stick chain utilizes plastic wear strips on the inner framework assemblies, to provide a smooth surface for the drive chain to travel on. These wear strips should be inspected periodically and replaced as needed. 50
