Small Service Self Service James Cooper, Lead Design Engineer

Small Service Self-Service Benefits of the Small Service Self-Service process: No need for the ICP to have the NERS Design module. No technical input needed The only NERS modules required are: Network Connections Jointing, LV Mains & Services Network Connections Operational, LV (not mandatory) Jointing LV Dead & LV Live Cable Laying LV 27

Small Service Self-Service Scope: Single and three phase metered demand connections up to 70kVA (no disturbing loads) Combines the elements of: Self Determination of point of connection Self Approval of Design Self Certification Self - Connection Utilises a suite of UK Power Networks standard designs: Simplifies and reduces the touch points Aids ICP s to enter small service connection market 28

Small Service Self - Service Self-Determination of PoC up to and including 70kVA LV Point of Connections - Standard Design Matrix The Standard Design Matrix will apply for connections up to and including 70kVA. For connections up to 70kVA the ICP will: Assess the existing demand on the distribution substation by using the substation maximum demand readings provided Provide details to support the proposed POC decision For connections up to 70kVA the ICP will not: Propose a POC where the arithmetic sum of the requested capacity and the existing substation maximum demand would exceed the overload rating of the transformer as detailed in EDS Loading of Secondary Transformers Plan to split the load of the site / premise into several applications in order for each application not to exceed the 70kVA threshold Propose a POC where any of the conditions referred to in this paper are not met Application table 29

Small Service Self Service process How it works day to day ICP submits an application for Notification of Self-Determination of PoC and a populated Small Service Self-Service template. CiC dept. will generate a 82 number which will be used as the reference number for the Small Service Self-Service project. UK Power Networks completes network integrity check and confirms point of connection is acceptable. ICP submits a SORN request following the normal LV Self-Connect process. ICP completes self certification checks, undertakes final connection, records assets and sends data updates to UK Power Networks 30

Working towards full self service How would it work day to day Alternatively.. If the situation on site doesn t meet the criteria of the matrix, i.e. the passing main is smaller then 120al (or equivalent). ICP can submit an application and SSSS template, as previous slide. UKPN will model the network and determine whether a PoC can be taken from the passing main, if it can the process continues.. If it works out that after modelling the network a mains extension/reinforcement/cable overlay is required, the normal LC15 process will need to be followed.
