5 A Look Ahead Introduction of a variety of electric vehicles by major automakers to meet a range of customer needs Electric utilities are the fuel provider for EVs California is one of the first and largest markets for these cars Although it is uncertain how large the market for electric vehicles will become, SCE s service territory could see as many as one million by 2020 As a result of the introduction of electric vehicles, SCE does not anticipate any significant system-wide impact to the electricity supply 5

8 Electric Vehicle Types Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) are powered by electric motors and advanced batteries, and are fueled 100% from the electric grid. Plug - in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) have two integrated propulsion systems: an internal combustion engine, and an electric motor powered by an advanced battery that can be recharged from the electric grid. These vehicles use both gasoline and electricity fuel. 8

SCE is here to assist customers in making this process as simple and convenient as possible. 23 Department Customers need to inform SCE of the amount of new load that is being added to their service. A service planner will conduct a field visit to verify existing infrastructure. If the infrastructure requires an upgrade, SCE will work with the customer to achieve their proposed want date. Customer requirements, timeframes, and costs can vary from site to site. Allowances are granted based on the amount of the load that is being added. 2 3

33 First Steps Consider involving tenants in the decision - making process as your decisions will directly impact them. Identify how much charging will be needed on site and where (dedicated - resident charging or common - area charging). Determine what your role will be in providing charging options and services. Charging Station Considerations Updating of existing rental agreements and/or covenants, conditions and restrictions (CC&Rs) must reflect EV-charging policies Approval process for charging- station installations, if requested by a tenant Hiring and management of contractors for any electrical or other construction work required for charging-station installations Payment of charging equipment, installation and ongoing maintenance costs, which may include electric panel and/or circuit upgrades, and any additional insurance required Responsibility for the cost of electricity associated with EV charging Tenant policies for use of the EV-charging stations, such as limits on how long vehicles can charge, payment methods, availability to guests Restoration of property back to its original condition if charging station is removed 33 Contact your SCE Account Representative or call 1

34 Equipment & Installation Before you install, you ll need to decide how many charging stations you ll need, where to place them, and what kind of equipment to invest in. Placement near existing electrical infrastructure will simplify the installation and may reduce costs. 35 Rate Options for Electric Car Charging We offer special electric car rate plans that encourage charging during off-peak hours, when electricity demand and costs are lower. As a building owner, an HOA, or a property manager, you should learn how to manage your energy use and costs, and you may also be eligible for a commercial or residential rate plan.
