8 An app for better e-mobility and IBM and EKZ, a Swiss utility provider, are piloting a web app that will allow consumers to conveniently charge electric vehicles and monitor their energy costs. 8

11 Smart grid and sustainable energies In 2009, EDISON was launched to demonstrate a smart grid for the largescale adoption of electric vehicles powered by wind energy on the Danish island of Bornholm. 11

12 From EDISON to EcoGrid EU a smart grid demonstrator Now EDISON will be expanded on Bornholm under the name EcoGrid EU. EcoGrid EU aims beyond electric vehicles to automate select appliances in homes and offices, such as heat pumps and electric water heaters, based on the electricity price. 12

14 Meet Watson: A smart Deep Q&A system In March 2011, IBM s Deep Q&A system called Watson beat two trivia champions on America s favorite quiz show JEOPARDY! 14

17 Game time is over, and now Watson is going into healthcare Watson's ability to analyze the meaning and context of human language, and quickly process information to find precise answers can assist decision makers, such as physicians and nurses, unlock important knowledge and facts buried within huge volumes of information, and offer answers they may not have considered to help validate their own ideas or hypotheses. 17

18 A closer look at Watson in healthcare Watson has the potential to provide critical and timely information to doctors to help diagnose and treat patients, leading to significant improvements in healthcare, and to establish evidence profiles from disparate data (e.g. latest knowledge in medical literature, reference material, prior cases, tests and findings, individual medical data of patient and symptoms). Watson s Deep Q&A system proposes a differential diagnosis to help personalize medical treatment 18
