Accodingly, oll suppot beaings may be failed in an extemely shot peiod of time, typically due to wea and cacking. To solve these poblems, JTEKT has developed a seies of poducts optimized to suppot the olls of continuous casting machines, including beaings, oil seals, HSC (Half Split Cylindical Rolle) beaing units and Oil/Ai lubication systems, poviding a systematic solution fo extending the sevice life of beaings in this application. 3 Beaings and Related Poducts fo Continuous Casting Machines 1. Failue mechanism of Beaing In continuous casting machines, olls ae loaded unde excessively heavy loads and may be bent consideably. Accodingly, to suppot the olls, spheical olle beaings, which have a self-aligning, ae commonly used. JTEKT has pefomed a vaiety of veification tests and analyses concening this application, and concluded that diffeential slip occus in the spheical olle beaings on the olls of the continuous casting machines when excessively heavy loads at extemely low speed ae imposed on the beaings unde sevee lubication conditions (Refe to Fig. 1). JTEKT theefoe ecommends full complement cylindical olle beaings fo this application. This oval suface causes diffeential slip, which is attibuted to the olling mechanism of the spheical olle beaing. Unde nomal load conditions, this diffeential sliding is negligible. Howeve, unde the excessively heavy loads, the majo axis of the contact ellipse may become excessively enlaged, esulting in an incease in slip ate.! This unit has unique stuctue, with a half-ound oute ing placed on the loaded side only. This special half-ound oute ing and compact seal design ealizes a % incease in static load ating ove that of conventional poducts. The outside diamete suface of the oute ing is finished spheically, poviding a self aligning to the housing.
