11 Who is UFOP? Founded in 1990 as reaction of: Two lost soy-panels in the GATT and the upcoming First step of the Reform of the Common Agriculture Policy Members: German Farmer s Association, State Farmer s Association, German Plant Breeder s Association, Plant Breeder Companies and further associations participating in the production, processing and marketing of indigenous oil- and protein plants Activities: - promote rape seed oil as a healthy oil for human nutrition - develop biodiesel as a flagship of regenerative raw material - funding field trials to test new varieties and optimize plant production

12 Sowing ideas... Founded by The "Deutsche Bauernverband e. V. (DBV, German Farmer s Association) "Bundesverband Deutscher Pflanzenzüchter e. V. (BDP, Federal Association of German Plant Breeders) A completely new organisation structure. All companies, associations and institutions participating in the production, processing and marketing of indigenous oil and proteinbearing plants are gathered under the UFOP banner. It was possible to establish UFOP in this interprofessional form because all participants acknowledged the opportunity of a new form of trusting co-operation. In past years, UFOP has produced numerous ideas to optimise agricultural production and to promote sales.

13 Tasks... The work conducted by UFOP is divided into four main fields of work: Political lobbying to national and international authorities. Optimisation of agricultural production by promoting research and supporting variety trials. Development of new means of exploitation. Public relations work to promote the sales of all end products on indigenous oil and protein-bearing plants.

16 Funding... The activities of UFOP are funded mainly by contributions of the breeders of rapeseed, sunflower and protein plants and by membership subscriptions. Most important element of UFOP funding is a fee paid by the farmers which provides funds for the work of UFOP from the sales of seeds (winter and summer rape, sunflowers and protein plants). This funding concept ensures that UFOP is autonomous and independent. With its funding based on solidarity, it will remain possible for UFOP to sow ideas and harvest success in the future.

17 Harvesting success! UFOP has been successful in integrating the breeding, cultivation, marketing and agricultural policies into a common concept borne by the entire agricultural industry to a degree achieved by hardly any other agricultural organisation in germany. The results of the activities of UFOP are remarkable: It has been possible to develop biodiesel to become a flagship product of regenerative raw materials. The perception of the high health benefits of rapeseed oil has also been extensively established. Fodder based on indigenous oil and protein plants has also found an acknowledged protagonist at UFOP. Practical agriculture has profited from the profuse relevant information and the results of variety trials.

20 Who is AGQM? Founded in 1999 as a quality management organisation for the Biodiesel industry to improve the market situation Foundation was initiated as a result of a conversation between VW and UFOP about the insufficient Biodiesel quality situation: VW announces, that the continuation of the Biodiesel release policy will depend on the improvement of the Biodiesel quality level in the market. Today: -Implementation and verifying of a QA system for Biodiesel in Germany applied beginning from the production over the storage companies to the petrol stations -Support of R&D in all fields leading to an estate property level for Biodiesel -Knowledge base for the application of Biodiesel

21 AGQM: Main Articles of Association The Association has the purpose to work towards the Quality Assurance of Biodiesel and the measures being necessary for that, to create standardized quality criteria and to guarantee them kept by means of control, to find some recommendations to deal with/apply them, to do the PR-work for the Quality Assurance and if applicable, to encourage research projects with relation to the Quality Assurance according to as well as the quality improvement.
