4 Lead glass recycling plant the challenge Glass recycling industry: high purity of glass with no traces of lead glass needed for the packaging glass recycling Increasing percentage of lead glass in collection lead fraction has no recycling solution - landfilled WEEE Recycling industry - CRT glass: Currently no environmentally and economically sustainable solutions for CRT leaded glass raw material for the production of new CRTs (no more demand) fluxing agents in smelters (lead not recovered) ceramic industry (low demand) pyrometallurgical solution (economically/environmentally not sustainable). 5 Lead glass recycling plant - introduction The plant performs a low temperature hydrometallurgical process: Extracts all the lead contained in lead glass with a purity of 99,99% Produces byproducts that can be used as secondary raw materials Achieve a ZERO WASTE PROCESS Low energy consumption The plant would represent a solution for E-waste and glass recycling Industries, a new opportunity for the European industry The plant will be located in Rho (MILAN) ITALY: within the already existing recycling facility of Relight (CRT glass available) near to 2 glass recycling plants (low transportation costs) The plant has been already authorized by the local authority WORKSHOP ON RAW MATERIALS IN THE JUNKER PLAN MAY, BRUXELLES 5

7 Lead glass recycling plant technical readiness Process and plant design has been performed by Costech International S.p.A The technology (hydrometallurgical process) is a well know and simple tecnique The innovativeness stands in the new application of the hydrometallurgical process to recover lead from glass material The technology has already been demonstrated at industrial scale with successful results WORKSHOP ON RAW MATERIALS IN THE JUNKER PLAN MAY, BRUXELLES 7

8 The business case Development of a process with the capacity of processing tons of lead glass per year (this will allow to avoiding landfill costs); Production of: 99,99% purified Lead (Pb) sold as commodity at LME price soluble silicates marketed in several industries e.g. detergents, coating, adhesive, building materials insoluble silicates marketed in paints production, varnishes, Plant cost: , depreciated in 6 years, 6% interest ( /year) Total cost (plant + operations): /year Total Revenues (lead at 95% of LME value, soluble silicates, insoluble silicates + saved cost of glass disposal): /year WORKSHOP ON RAW MATERIALS IN THE JUNKER PLAN MAY, BRUXELLES 8

9 Financial state of art FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS Relight already invested in the develpment of the technology the authorization process Support is needed for initial investment of , aimed at the construction of the plant, in form of: Soft loans Financing guarantees OBSTACLES TO ACCESS FINANCING Notwithstanding the fact that Relight alerady invested equity in the project, banks require to Relight further equity commitment (both in the case of debt financing and leasing) The project is to small to be «project financed» Relight is a PMI that cannot sustain heavy cash/guarantees burden. 10 Impacts at EU level The innovative plant represents an important solution for: The RECYCLING INDUSTRY E-WASTE AND GLASS RECYCLING sectors The RAW MATERIALS INITIATIVE high quantities of recovered metal (LEAD), new products substituting primary raw materials Avoiding of dangerous material landfilling with reduction of threats for environment and health Metals and Products recovered available for European industries: 500 tons/year of 99,99% purified Lead (Pb) tons/year of soluble silicates ton/year of insoluble silicates The plant could be replicated in other European countries with high impact on the environmental sustainability and economy of EU WORKSHOP ON RAW MATERIALS IN THE JUNKER PLAN MAY, BRUXELLES 10
