3 Daka Denmark OUR HISTORY Since 1800, Rendering Plants have been a part of the slaughterhouse industry Some of Daka s plants date back to the 1920s The Rendering Plants: Daka, Østjyden, Kronjyden og NAFA merged to Daka a.m.b.a. Daka a.m.b.a. took over Konvex AB in Sweden Daka a.m.b.a. turned into Daka Denmark A/S and the German SARIA Group took over 51% of the ownership Daka Denmark 3

For more than 125 years, DC has produced and sold food to consumers worldwide. For several generations, Scan has produced and sold Swedish meat to Swedish consumers. The third largest slaughterhouse in Denmark. 80 % of the production goes to export. 10 ORIGIN: FROM CRISIS TO SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION The BSE crisis resulted in a feed ban in New applications had to be found for a large amount of raw material, which was initially downgraded in the value pyramid. Biodiesel production was a technical possibility, and the plant was ready in December The production represents an increase in value of a large amount of biomass and is an example of a circular economy. 12 RAW MATERIALS AND POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS The raw materials consist of fat from fallen stock, by-products from slaughterhouses and UCO. Second generation biodiesel is the primary product (55 million litres/year). A fraction is used for heating oil, BHO, as a secondary product (2,500 tons/year). Glycerine is a residual product used in biogas production (5,000 tons/year). Potassium phosphate is a residual product used in fertiliser (1,500 tons/year). Daka ecomotion 12

14 CURRENT FRAMEWORK CONDITIONS 2003/30/EC Directive promoting the use of sustainable fuels in the transport sector. The target is a 7% (v/v) share of sustainable fuels in the transport sector by /28/EC The directive aims to increase the proportion of sustainable fuel in the transport sector to a minimum of 10% in each member state by /1513 (Iluc directive) The classification of raw materials, e.g. compared with the raw material list for advanced biofuel. Double counting of FAME produced from animal fat categories 1 and 2 and UCO Daka ecomotion 14

15 FRAMEWORK CONDITIONS AFTER 2020 The concept of double counting falls away. Advanced biofuel is defined on the basis of the type of raw material, but does not include animal fat or UCO. An upper limit to the amount of sustainable biofuel from animal fat, UCO and molasses becomes 1.7%. Demand for admixing of only 1.5% sustainable biofuel from 2021, of which min 0.5% (0.9% in DK) must be advanced biofuel. Increasing to 6.5% with min 3.5% advanced biofuel in Daka ecomotion 15
