3 Uses/application examples Smoke extraction motors Automation and Smoke extraction motors are mainly used in buildings or building structures, where smoke monitoring and evacuation is required due to the design and layout - for example: airports theaters, cinemas, discotheques shopping malls enclosed parking houses stairwells tunnels industrial facilities warehouses A&D SD SM1, L.Kocian, /23

4 Automation and Function of smoke extraction motors These motors have a double function: Normal operation (where there is no fire): ventilation and / or extraction Under fault conditions (i.e. when there is a fire): keep emergency exits and access routes free of smoke make firefighting easier by creating a smoke-free layer prevent / delay fire spreading protect equipment and devices reduce the heat stress of components and equipment reduce the damage caused by fire as a result of products from thermal decomposition and hot gases A&D SD SM1, L.Kocian, /23

Temperature / time requirements according to EN (from 02.99): 200 Celsius 120 min. 300 Celsius 60 min. 400 Celsius 120min. 9 Automation and Procedures: Certifying the fans Motors alternatively used in an existing official application certificate (bauaufsichtlicher Zulassung) for smoke extraction fans with a new supplementary entry in compliance with EN from 06/02 Fan manufacturer/ user 1 ) Application Using a motor, tested in compliance with EN in a fan certification DIBT Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik [German Institute for Building Technology] HQ in Berlin Sends the enquiry to the testing body which tested the fan Testing body which tested the fan Provides the analysis 2) regarding the suitability of the motors in fan units DIBT The specification for the motors which are to be newly included are archived DIBT - extends an already existing fan certification, or - issues a new fan certification for the first time 1) This means the entity which applied for DIBT certification 2) Basis: The motor was successfully tested/checked in accordance with EN A&D SD SM1, L.Kocian, /23

10 Essential product features/properties Smoke extraction motors (1) Automation and Only the motor is accepted in compliance with EN this means that suitable fan impellers, from any manufacturer, can be used, when appropriately dimensioned. The motor has the connecting leads brought-out at the non-drive end Radial and axial fans can be driven radial fan: Self-ventilated motor, 1LA../1LG.. with metal fan axial fan: Non-ventilated motor, 1PP.. (observe the volume airflow required) The maximum cantilever forces are almost identical to those for motors as listed in Catalog M11 (observe the permissible load levels at the shaft end) Operating times under fire/smoke conditions are significantly above the values specified in the e.g. F300: postulated operating time120min (instead 60min by standard), the effective operating time was about 180 min however A&D SD SM1, L.Kocian, /23
