3 3 Introduction No profit research center funded in 2001, after a public initiative CTTC today: Is the only center in engineering of telecommunications characterized by harmony between technological development and scientific capacity Is devoted to PHY, MAC and IP OSI layers and so is complementary to other organizations. It creates permanent job positions in R&D Its staff is equilibrated in terms of engineers and researchers Is characterized by a growing prestige, visibility and partnership at international level Is characterized by significant income from UE competitive funds. Is approximately self-funded at 50%

20 20 Testbeds (4/5) EXTREME : EXperimental Testbed for Research Enabling Mobility Enhancements It is a testbed to evaluate networking algorithms for mobility. It includes multiple access technologies such as WLAN, UMTS/HSDPA and mesh networks.

21 21 Testbeds (5/5) ULAND : Qualified Ultra-widEband Testbed for reduzed data-rate and Location It is a prototype for a system providing low data rate transmission and high precision ranging using ultra wideband signals based on impulse radio technology. It consists of a pair of transceivers based on an RF filter bank covering over 2.5 GHz, with fully reconfigurable baseband processing.
