9 E2SG measures of success Definition of techniques and methodologies to increase the density of metering devices by a factor of 2 double the number of sensor data reduce the resources (energy or cost of additional hardware) needed for communication from and to smart metering devices by 30% secure communication between metering devices and central nodes against all commonly considered attacks and failures

16 Summary Growing population and wealth lead to increasing energy demand and consumption A Smart Grid is required to support the fullfillment of the demand Efficient and reliable generation, conversion, distribution and consumption Smart metering and secure communication for enhanced control of the grid and appliances Enhanced grid control to ensure grid stability when renewable sources, micro generation and storage devices are introduced to the grid E2SG adresses key areas of this evolution by investigating and exploiting: Technologies, devices and appliances for efficient, smart and safe conversion Smart metering including low energy, robust and secure communication Smart appliances control interfaces Approaches for enhanced grid control
