In 1902 a Renaut Type K won its first victory in the Paris-to-Vienna road race, propeed by a four cyinder engine producing sighty more than 40 horsepower. It beat the more powerfu Mercedes and Panhard racers because they broke down, proving very eary on that to finish first, first you have to finish. In that same year Renaut patented the turbocharger, something it had not forgotten in 1977 when it was the first manufacturer to race a turbocharged Formua One car. The RS01 was initiay nicknamed the 'Yeow Teapot' by amused riva teams, but intensive deveopment eventuay saw it scoring fourth pace in the 1978 US Grand Prix, and a poe position the foowing year. Within three years of the Yeow Teapot s arriva most riva teams were aso using turbochargers. Athough today s Renautsport RS engine is a normay aspirated V8, as required by the reguations, from 2014 it wi be repaced by a highy advanced, downsized 1.6-itre turbocharged V6 featuring a pair of powerfu energy recuperation systems that feed twin eectric motors. These incude an Energy Recovery System (ERS-K) that harvests Kinetic energy, and a second Energy Recovery System (ERS-H) that captures Heat. The aim is to deiver the same power as the 2013 V8 engine deivers using a V6 turbo and twin eectric motors, to use 40 percent ess fue. 3 The Renautsport Ha of Fame Buying a Renautsport today is to buy more than just a car. It is to drive the atest in a ong ine of cass-defining products, each pushing the boundaries of engineering expertise and driving dynamics in their respective eras. It is this knowedge, deveoped and honed over time, which keeps Renautsport at the forefront of today s performance car market. Here s a seection of some of our finest achievements: Apine A110 (1962) Unveied at the Paris Motor Show, in 1962, the Apine A110 featured severa innovative features: a stee backbone chassis, fibregass poyester body and an offset rear-mounted engine. The car s eongated rear was actuay a triumph of both form and function: it was needed to house Renaut s first 4-cyinder engine with five bearings. Like the R8 Gordini before it, the A110 aso proved to be a successfu ray car, dominating the 1973 Word Ray Championship with eight wins out of 13, incuding two one-two-three victories at the Monte Caro ray and the Tour de Corse. Continuous deveopment of the car s engine and performance ife were the key to maintaining its competitive edge. Renaut 8 Gordini (1964) The R8 Gordini showed how, with a itte magic from Amadée Gordini, an ordinary Renaut 8 coud be transformed into a genuine performance car. With a tuned 90 bhp engine and cose ratio 5 speed manua gearbox, the R8 Gordini coud reach a top speed of 105mph. In its unmistakabe bue paintwork with twin white stripes, it enjoyed considerabe success in raying, finishing first in the 1964 Tour de Corse ray. Renaut 5 GT Turbo (1987) The Renaut 5 GT Turbo is the origina 'pocket rocket', marking the start of Renaut s considerabe success in making hot hatchbacks. With a 1.4 itre turbocharged engine producing 120 bhp and weighing just 830kg, its exceptiona power-to-weight ratio enabed it to reach 62 mph in 7.1 seconds. After the raying successes enjoyed by the wide-bodied, rear-engine Renaut 5 Turbo cars of the eary 80s, the R5 GT Turbo brought performance motoring to the masses as the hot hatch era began to enter fu swing. Cio Wiiams (1992) Named after the Renaut-powered Wiiams F1 team of the era, the Cio Wiiams has become one of the most iconic hot hatchbacks of a time. A three phases of the Cio Wiiams featured trademark dark metaic bue paintwork with 15" god aoy whees and god Wiiams ogos, as we as a purposefu bonnet buge and air intake. With 150 bhp from its rev-hungry 2.0 F7R engine, the Wiiams reached 60 mph in 7.7 seconds - impressive performance, even by today s standards. The Wiiams wi continue to be a benchmark for hot hatches for years to come. Renautsport Spider (1995) The Renautsport Spider is arguaby Dieppe s most uncompromising production car to date. The combination of a ightweight auminium chassis and the absence of a roof meant the Spider weighed just 930kg, making for a purist s driving experience. Couped with the 2-itre 150 bhp engine from the Cio Wiiams, the Spider s power-toweight ratio made for race-car-ike handing and performance. The Spider aso formed the basis for a one-car racing series, often supporting the popuar British Touring Car Championships during the 1990s. Ony 1,726 Sport Spiders were produced wordwide, making it a sought-after coector s car. Cio Renautsport V6 255 (2003) The Cio Renautsport V6 255 was a Cio with attitude. From its extended wheearches housing 18-inch aoy whees to its side air intakes, the Cio V6 oozed on-road presence. Its mid-mounted 3-itre 24-vave V6 engine producing 255bhp provided a suitaby spine-tinging soundtrack to match its exotic exterior and performance to humbe more expensive machinery. It is itte wonder that the Cio V6 proved a hit with UK journaists, incuding Jeremy Carkson, who stated, in my perfect 10 car garage I woud definitey have one of these no question. Cio Renautsport 182 Trophy (2005) As a fina farewe to the accaimed Cio Renautsport 182, the Trophy imited edition became the pinnace of Renautsport s achievements with Cio II. Designed and conceived soey for the British enthusiast market, with input from the egendary Jean Ragnotti, the Trophy offered exceptiona road-hoding thanks to its bespoke Sachs Racing dampers. The Trophy wooed the British motoring press, with Autocar magazine pronouncing it the Word s Greatest Hot Hatch, whist Evo Magazine awarded it with its Car of the Decade award in With its signature Capsicum Red paintwork, this imited edition of just 500 units for the UK is destined to be a future cassic. Mégane R26.R (2008) At 123kg ighter the Renautsport Mégane 230 F1 Team R26 on which it was based, the Mégane R26.R set new standards for modern day hot hatches. Bringing race car features to the road, incuding a carbon bonnet, poycarbonate windows, Sabet carbon-sheed race seats and six-point harnesses, the R26.R proved its mette by breaking the ap record for the fastest front-whee-drive production car around the Nürburgring Nordscheife circuit, at 8 minutes 17 seconds. Such performance earned the R26.R fifth pace in Evo magazine s 100 Greatest Driver s Cars ahead of a Ferrari and Lamborghini modes. Mégane Renautsport 265 Trophy (2011) Foowing hot in the tyre tracks of the Mégane Renautsport R26.R, the Mégane Renautsport 265 Trophy entered Renautsport fokore, and shot into the record books in June It set a new benchmark ap time for the fastest front-whee drive production car around the egendary Nürburgring Nordscheife in Germany. Beating the stripped out R26.R s ap time by 9 seconds, the 265 Trophy apped the circuit in a scarcey beievabe 8 minutes 8 seconds. The key to this amazing performance was an increase of 15hp and 20Nm of torque over the Mégane Renautsport 250, and the extra grip generated by the high-performance Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres. With just 50 Mégane Renautsport 265 Trophy vehices buit for the UK, this recordbreaking Mégane is sure to become a sought-after coector s item. Cio Renautsport 200 Cup (2011) The Cio Renautsport 200 Cup, haied as the most track-focussed member of the Cio Renautsport famiy. The Cio Renautsport 200 Cup came with Cup chassis as standard. It offered a ower ride height and stiffer springs and dampers for performance that bew you away, aong with the best power-to-weight ratio in its cass (166hp per tonne). Ride height 7mm ower than that of the standard chassis. Last but not east, the Cup came with a higher ratio steering rack (7.5% quicker than the standard chassis) which enhanced feedback to the driver in conditions of varying grip.
