4 OVERVIEW Fused deposition modeling is being utilized for a variety of tooling and end use parts applications that required elevated temperatures. Composite layup tooling is an example of one application where the strength of the materials at the higher temperatures is important. For these types of applications it is important to understand who the strength of FDM materials behaves at elevated temperatures. Dynamic temperature sweep flex testing provides the designer insight into the behavior of the materials strength over the tested temperature range. Testing for this report targeted the temperature range between ambient and the Tg of the tested material. Only accredited third party test facilities, which are recognized by industry, were utilized for testing. TEST METHODS The test was conducted per ASTM D6272 Dynamic Flex Tests. The table below provides a list of tested materials. Stratasys Product Test Procedure Test Facility Doc. End and flat build orientations were tested to evaluate whether dynamic flex strength demonstrated any sensitivities to build orientation. Default build styles were used. 11 PPSF Individual test plots are provided in Appendix A. This testing was terminated early because flat sample data was much noisier than previous materials tested and end samples were failing before a full temperature sweep could be completed. An investigation into the reasons for these results is ongoing. TEST DATA TABLE TBD SAMPLE IMAGES End Samples Flat Samples FINDINGS Premature failure of samples has indicated that an investigation of the test conditions is necessary. This report will be revised when findings are completed. 11 P a g e
