1 BLUE / GRAY! Chapter Rocket Report NEWSLETTER FOR THE BLUE/GRAY CHAPTER OF THE OLDSMOBILE CLUB OF AMERICA Number 3, Volume 28!!! June-July 2012 Message From The President Members All, Spring has not been what it s all cracked up to be here in Northeast Pa. Our April weather was a typical March while March was almost like May. We were spoiled with thoughts of getting the cars ready early this year and planting in our gardens but Mother Nature rules all of us. We would like to announce a new addition to our family a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero Sport Coupe. Bet you thought it was a baby LOL We were please to buy this from a long time family friend, a one owner car with 60,000 original miles loaded to the top including sliding roof, power buckets, spoiler and the engine upgrade 3.4 v-6. Not a show car as of now, still great to own the last named model built by Oldsmobile! The event that means so much to me is right around the corner. The GM Nationals is where I first showed our 1981 Regency in a non local but competitive show and more important than winning 3 awards it was the show that made us Blue/Gray Club members. Also it attracted Todd Cousins the Ghostbusters Wagon owner to also join our club. Why?? We were treated royally by club members and could not refuse to join a great club like ours. The most important thing we can do is promote the club and the sport at major shows like this and hope to meet great new potential members and enjoy their cars. We have several great shows coming in the very near future: We have been invited by the Mason Dixon Buick Club to attend a car show they re having on June 16 at Freysinger Buick/GMC on Rte. 11 (Carlisle Pike), Mechanicsburg, PA. We are co-hosting the Carlisle GM Nationals with the DVOC. Thanks to Jeff Antonucci. When you see Jeff and DVOC members please thank them for the clubs support! Our club encourages everyone to come and support the 2012 Hurst Olds Club of America Nationals July 28th at the AACA Museum in Hershey Pa. Rick and Sharon Tice are Hosts. Another fantastic chance to tell other Olds owners about our club!! Macungie comes August 3,4,5. Our Host Club Day at Das Awkscht Fescht is Sunday August 5th.. Check the Club Website for more details on all events as I update them very often. Ken will have all the known details about the club picnic and the fall Hanover show in the newsletters, so keep a watchful eye! Hope to see everyone at the coming shows! Rich

This car was purchased January 13 (1962) at Glenn L. Bream Olds Cadillac dealership in Gettysburg, PA, on a Saturday night around 9:00 pm after a similar deal fell through at Westminster Motors in Maryland. This car was used as the prime family car through the 60ʼs and 70ʼs.! In the late 70ʼs this owner started to realize that we were going to keep the car, because of itʼs condition, and use it as a classic; to attend shows and for other occasional use.! We also had two teenage sons, who learned to drive this convertible. It has been in the family for 50 years.! The car was never in an accident nor been damaged in any other way. It has all the original interior.! The exterior has received 2 original white paint jobs and the convertible top was replaced a third time in Previous tops were white. After several years of searching, the maroon top was located in New Jersey. It is a close match to the original interior.! The engine and transmission are all original except for the routine replacement of plugs, belts, and fuel and water pumps. The new radiator was installed in Chrome is all original, except the two piece hub caps (which are in new condition), have been replaced by full wheel covers from 1963.! In 1980 a 3-car garage was built to store cars. The Olds is accompanied by a 1939 Buick Special 4-door, which has been in the family for 56 years.! About 1984 another 62 Olds convertible appeared as a parts car, but it was restored to near original condition. It still needs some interior work.! In the early 80ʼs our son purchased a 1962 Starfire Coupe to restore, but after school, marriage, and family it wound up in Dadʼs driveway (with Dadʼs option to sell it or keep it). It is now stripped of all glass and chrome and will be painted in the future (if itʼs still in our ownership). The car has a good engine, newly rebuilt transmission and rear wheel bearings, and some brake system repairs have been completed.! I have purchased and dismantled a 62 Olds 4-door and a convertible, which give me a wide variety of parts. Some of these parts are for sale: hoods, trunk lids, doors, glass items, and even a complete frame.! It has been a pleasure for our family to be associated with Oldsmobiles from our first Olds in 1957 to the present day.!!!! Have a good day,!!!! Clair E. 7 ROAD TRIP Saturday, May 19, 2012 several of us took a road trip to the DVOC's BPOC show at the Granite Run Mall in Media, PA.! There 30 Oldsmobiles in attendance, along with 7 Buicks, a dozen Pontiacs. No Cadillacs were entered but a few showed up just to look, but the cheap... (fill in the blank) didn't enter the show. Oldest car there was this 1929 model 29R Oldsmobile roadster. Yeah, itʼs nice. May 19 was National Hurst Olds Day. There were 6 H/Os out for the occasion:!! L to R 2-83s, a 75, a 69, an 85, and a 79. Itʼs not unusual to see a four door full size car at a car show. A four door Cutlass however, is somewhat unusual. This one was even more unusual because it is a yellow four door... and it has less than 2100 original miles! page 7
