5 o TECHNICAL Temperature Gauge Reading 24th, 25th, 26th Series We have received a few reports from Owner~ where they complain of coolant overheating but it does not actually boil. They state that the temperature gauge reads much higher than on other cars they have owned. Similar reports from the field state that the temperature gauge reads on the hot side but when the coolant temperature is taken with a thermometer, it is found to he normal. Beginning with 26th Series pr~duction (approximately 6000 cars), a temperature gauge regulator is attached to the gauge as shown in the illustration. Surting with Engine Numbers L , L , L , L , the regulator was discontinued and a new re-calibrated sending unit is used. The electrical wiring hook-up used with the temperature ~.. u!!e regulator is shown in the illustration. The doned lines indicate the wiring hook-up used without the regulator. When it is found that a temperature gauge reads hi.c:h on 24th or 25th Series cars and there is no loss of coolant or a boiling condition, the gauge is giving an im?roper reading due to improper resistance in the F~u~e wire circuit. A corre!;t gauge reading can b< ohtained by installing the new sending unit. C4ulioll: Under no circumstances should the new re CI.l.ibrated sending unit be used on cars having the page regulator. "The temperature gauge regulator is available for s Vice replacement on the early 26th Series cars and can he ordered under Part Number Tbe new re-calibrated sending unit is available for se.tvicc replacement on the 24th, 25th and late 26th ~es cars and can be ordered under Part Number th Series Differential Sealing Ring Service Tip Some difficulty is being encountered in holding the differential carrier sealing ring in place while installing the carrier in the rear axle case. Sealing ring holding clips can be made from wiring harness clips, Part Number by hreaking off the small tang and grinding the flat surface smooth as shown in the illustration. Several of these clips can then he clipped over the carrier flange to hold the seal in plac{. After the carrier is tightened enough so that the scaling ring contacts the rear axle case. the clip~ can he pryed off with a SCrew driver or small punch. Service Counselor Vol. 27, No.3, March "Servicing the Differential" refers to using heavy fibre grease to hold the sealing ring in plan'. This procedure has been changed in production and it is permissible to use a rubber type cement.
