2 Front Page The 1965 Malibu on page one belongs to Dusty and Stephanie Jantz. Dusty had a 70 model that was incomplete and with limited time to work on it, he sold the 70 and bought the 65 which is ready to drive. Great decision, Dusty! Steak 'n Shake Spring is here and so is the cruise-in at Steak n Shake on South Glenstone. This first cruise couldn t have been much better as the day was sunny and warm with a little wind. Car owners were evidently ready to get their rides out as a large number of cars filled the front and back lots to capacity. Spectators also turned out as they admired and took pictures of their favorite models. Held the first Saturday of the month, it won t be long until the next one is here, so get those Chevelles ready. Our April club meeting was also held at this location with several members bringing their Chevelles for display. Pictures on the front page and also on page four show a little bit of that day. Chevelles spotted were Richard Boyd s 70, Steven Cunningham s 72, Scott George s 71, Mike Moore s 70, Jim Proe s 70, Steve Reed s 67, Jim Wisely s 70, Dusty Jantz s 65, Kelley McKenzie s 65, Bill Estes 66 and Dennis Langston s 65. New Members Bruce and son Nick from Ava have joined our Chevelle club. They have a great looking 1972 Chevelle. Watch for them at upcoming events. 3 What Are We Thinkin'? Most of the members of our Chevelle Club are, shall we say, middle age (plus) and most of us have had this crazy car bug ever since we can remember. Hearing a hot V8 powered anything still gets our blood pumping just a little faster than the average Joe, or Jolene. And being said age, most of us have been able to enjoy all forms of the muscle car hot rod hobby most all our lives, from rebuilding, showing, racing or whatever. So what s next? We loved it all and we'd do it all again if we could. Wait. What am I saying, IF we could? I don t know what we re thinkin but some of us ARE doing it again. Just as in the old days, we are driving our Chevelles. El Camino our Novelle and our hot rods and having a darn good time doing it.. Now I know not everyone has room for both a show car and a driving car, but if you do and would like to start joining some of the other club members on some weekend trips you re more than welcome to do so. We cruise in the rain, the snow, we cruise even when it s 17 degrees outside (that January trip was called the Chilly Hilly Billy Run). Some folks wouldn t miss a trip for anything, even if it s their 25th wedding anniversary. Our typical cruise usually starts on a Saturday morning. Meeting at a spot to eat, then driving a short distance, then eating again, then driving another short distance, stopping for gas, oil and ice cream. Do you see the pattern? Our traveling car show usually consists of 10 to14 cars and most stops we have on-lookers that want to take pictures and have questions answered about the cars. Traveling on the interstate can be a little dangerous with other drivers looking at, taking pictures and honking their horns as they pass. If you would like to join us on our next trip, you may contact Kim Keith, Randy Weimer or Robert Killingsworth for information. When is our next trip? We re not sure, but it more than likely will be on the Killingsworth s next 25th wedding anniversary. 4 It's Back Cam II 110 octane racing fuel is back in town after a long absence. Those of us with high compression engines were having a hard time finding a source of fuel to drive our Chevelles. It all started when Johnson s One Stop stopped selling the purple stuff and then closed altogether last year. For some it wasn t a big deal since there was still Bill s Quick Mart in Rogersville that sold the same purple fuel at a less expensive price. Summertime went fast and around September we received word that Bill s Mart had stopped selling racing fuel. Now things were getting serious. Aviation fuel was suggested, but we quickly found that it was off limits for cars. Some of had to let our Chevelles set since the tanks were dry. Now Cam II is back at the Village Mart located at Glenstone and Division just in time for the car show and cruising season. Priced at $6.49 per gallon, it s not cheap, but it s less expensive than what we found last year and for now there s plenty to go around. TOP: Admirers looking at Jim s Chevelle. Well here we are the middle of April, our first meeting at Steak n Shake went well with a good turn out of members (always room for more). I think all that attended were ready for a nice day and some fresh air filled with high octane, carbon monoxide. If you missed the meeting then you also missed seeing Mike Moore's latest completion. He had it out for the first time. As has been the case with everything else that has come out of Moore's restoration shop it is one nice ride. We could all wish for a driver like that. After last years score, Rain 98 - Car Shows 1, our group that had planned on going to Memphis canceled after seeing the forecast from there (gun shy I guess). After moping around for a couple days Bill W. and I spoke about looking into going to one of the other locations that is holding a Super Chevy this year?? Stay Tuned! Shows and Cruises are in high gear now until fall, lets all get out there whenever possible and show the people of Southwest MO how proud we are to be members of one of the finest clubs in this area, THE QUEEN CITY CHEVELLE CLUB.
