3 Simple design, superior performance Unobtrusive design, excellent lighting technique, easy installation and versatility are the keys to success in many downlight applications Thorn embodies all these attributes with the new Cruz range of high quality downlights. With its new generation of reflectors and choice of three major lamp types, from 10W CFL to 150W HIT, Cruz gives class leading light output ratios with excellent glare control. Installation is made quick and easy by a patented sec-lock (secure, easy and comfortable) spring-loaded holding arm, which automatically retains the downlight tool-free in place. Fixing is further aided by the availability of low height units for 100mm void depths and plug and play versions. Designed for use in modern interiors, each downlight matches its counterpart in looks and there is a choice of three different bezels white, chrome or grey finish. Seventeen sophisticated attachments and colour filters change or control Cruz s light distribution. These vary from the decorative to the functional, from the floating trumpet attachment to the IP54 cover. Furthermore, specific attachments provide a visual link with other Thorn product ranges, such as Planor, Garbo and Line XS. High frequency control gear with digital dimming options (DSI), are available, as are emergency versions (using the EM Pro Module) as standard. A complementary Gyro version completes the offer. Directional effects (0-) can be obtained by altering the amount of protrusion from the ceiling. 7 Lighting schemes High efficiency and excellent glare control Compact fluorescent lamps with amalgam technology (TC-TEL-I types) offer flexibility in luminaire design and acceptable environmental conditions. The lamps use an alloy of mercury instead of pure mercury. The amalgam enables a relatively constant mercury vapour pressure over a wide temperature range and thus maximum light output. TC-TEL-I amalgam lamps emit 90% or more lumens in +1C to +7C ambient temperatures (conventional compact fluorescents only emit 90% or more lumens in +2C to +45 C ambient temperatures). Consequently the Cruz range has been optimised for single lamp TC-TEL-I wattages. This enables improved scheme performance, especially when compared with downlights employing twin TC-DEL lamps. The tables below show how a higher lux level can be achieved with a lower power consumption! Using Cruz single lamp (TC-TEL-I) over twin lamp (TC-DEL) offers: 1) Higher LOR 2) Lower energy consumption 3) Reduced maintenance costs in lamp replacement and the WEEE directive Example of general area 12m 0m lx ) Could reduce the number of installation points However, amalgam lamps are not recommended in applications where: 1) Dimming and running the lamps below 30% output. 2) Emergency lighting in high risk/task areas such as production (escape route or open area emergency lighting areas are not a problem). 9 Installation Patented sec-lock (secure, easy and comfortable) ensures quick, tool-free installation. 1. Start position (before installation) 2. End position (after installation) 3. Push the luminaire, including the rear tension-spring, into the hole 4. With one hand push the ring of the luminaire into the ceiling (to avoid fingerprints on the reflector) 5. Now the clamping arm automatically moves into position, holding the luminaire firmly in the ceiling. (suitable for ceilings 10-35mm thickness) 6.
